10# Halas meat pies on 6/15/03

With a baking skill of 203 and INT of 255.
I made 60 successful combines of MHPs out of 60 attempts and no skill-up.

I was wondering if they accidentally set it to a no-fail combine, like Celestial essence. Has anyone else noticed this lately?

I have enough ingredients for another 40 combines, but don't want to waste them.

I took Lupoman's advice and did my last 40 combines.

I succeeded 99 out of 100 attempts (weird even if the item was trivial, there's supposed to be a 5% failure rate.)

I got 2 skill ups on the last dozen combines... the 1st skill-up on the 1 failure I had.

Thanks for the advice Lupoman... looks like I have a lot more combining to do.

according to my notes, i had my first 20 out of 20 successes at 199 skill on halas pies, and even at 250 skill now, i will occasionally fail 2 combines out of the 20. it's all just the RNG messing with ya.

I can understand why you thought what you did. I’ve been doing trade skills for a couple of years now and I found myself thinking the same thing this last weekend. I made three stack of leather padding without any failures. That’s 60 combines at 100% success. My tailoring was 131, so I started to think that maybe Sony was testing out something new with low trivial items. But during my next 20 combines I failed four times. *sigh* The RNG was having a good laugh at my expense.

I also started making Halas Pies with my shaman last weekend, baking 191. I got a skill up on my first combine and nothing on the rest of the three stacks. I was strongly reminded of my druid going through similar frustration with Halas Pies at that level. All we can do is shake our heads and forge on ahead.

I do think though that HMPs have a low chance of fail compared to other items. At least I seem to fail a lot less on them than other stuff - even though with the inventory they take I wouldn't mind failing a bit more! Might just be because it's not waaay over 250 like the frigging picnics.

RNG and such

HMPs do have a pretty low failure rate. I have a baking monk who (just out of morbid curiosity) tried to make the pies at skill 160 or so. I readied twenty attempts in one of my Delux sewing kits and away I went. 75% of the pies ended up ready to eat. After several more runs at this, the success varied a lot with the worst being about 50% (still only skill 163 or so on that run.) Considering my monk is a trade skill brick (INT and WIS 80) I find it pretty funny that she ever got up so high at all. Good luck on your combines!

I did 160 combines two days ago.

Wisdom of 255, went from skill 198 to 205.

I had horrible skillup rates with HMPs. I did something like 200 combines for 2 skillups, then got frustrated at skill 205 and did MTPs up to 240.

Now on my 2nd attempt for trophy.. after I am successful with that (scraping together the cash), will go on to 250. Should be able to bang it out in a few hours.

I seem to have more luck with certain recipes over others- anaconda and griffon melts (which I read people raving about) gave me zilch for skillups, and due to the difficulty of obtaining the parts... (killing greens all night? No thanks.) I opted for vendor purchased recipes. :P
