  • Gesh, what a skill

My skill level is 200, plus a 5% item.

Have made over 250 tries at Misty Thicket Picnics. No skill up.

All other trader skills are under 200.

What's with this. Have swimming and sence heading at 200 though.

Also doing jourd meat pies and toe stew when I can get compoents.

    Any ideas??

    Welcome to the Kitchen.

The only thing I can tell you is don't give up. You will skill up eventually, but the next 20ish points are going to require alot of patience. You might switch to Hala's meat pies. At 200ish skill, I hear the skillup rate is kinder working on those.

Good Luck. My last skill run, I made 180 MTP's, had 13 imps to put me at 248 skill. Finally found someone to assist and got my baker's spoon.

      Been there...

      I feel your pain.

I just got a skillup to 212 after my 197th combine on Griffon/Veggie Cheesy Casseroles. My "only" one out of 197. I should have given the RNG a rest, but I was bull-headed...

In my early 190's (after patty melts went trivial), I did four or five stacks of Ohabah truffles (or however that's spelled). I was very happy to get some five skillups with those, or about one to two per stack, and I rarely failed the combines, either. Maybe you can try a stack or two of those? Easy enough to make if you can get the components, and it can help you break this nasty streak.

          MTPs

At 247 baking now, done 212 combines on MTPs so far without a skillup

            it sucks, but...

I know the feeling. I did Halas 10 lb. Meat Pies from 191 to ~197 then made the switch to MTPs. I made a post similar to this after 180 or so combines with no skill up. I finally got my next point (to 201) after 234 (or close to that) combines. I have done a few more MTP runs (160 combines each time) and have gotten to 208 skill. I get 2 or 3 skill ups per 160 combines. The success rate stunk til I used the 5% tool. This lastrun I got 5 stacks of MTP using the tool versus ~1 stack without it.

My skill up rate with HMPs was roughly twice what I have had with MTPs but the sub combines for the HMPs were awful. I ended the HMP run with over 35 stacks of HMPs also, so the success rate is much, much better too. If my trader can move the HMPs before I decide to do another MTP run I may switch back to HMPs to see if they are any more bearable. I'll decide later when I am ready to bake a bit more. The MTP route to 250 is way to frustrating in the low 200's to sit down and grind it out.

Skill up and success rate stink, but MTPs are by far the easiest route to 250. If you want to take it slow you may try to XP in PoP and gather ingredients while you do it. When you have a decent stockpile make the combines and try to skillup that way. I flop back and forth between the XP method and grinding out MTPs. The thought of making HMPs again still makes me shudder.

You're in the hell levels - from around 185 to 210 skills getting stuck like that is the norm - it'll pass eventually.

I hate to say it, but you’ll find that the occasional long stretch without any skill ups is not uncommon for any of the trade skills. For some reason they seem to be most common between 180 and 210, but they can happen at any time. It took me about 280 combines to go from 248 brewing to 249. So if it’s any comfort to you, you aren’t alone in your frustration.

For baking, I would recommend making Halas Pies until they trivial. The skill ups are decent, except for when the RNG rears its ugly head, and they are a popular product. They don’t sell for very much in the bazaar due to the massive supply, but they do sell. And if you’re like me, you’ll have plenty of friends who would enjoy the occasional free stack of pies.

Unfortunately, Halas pies are a nightmare to make. Whoever thought all those sub combines was a good idea should be chopped up into tiny bits, stomped on until each bit is properly tenderized and then force-fed to the undead frogs in Lower Guk! My druid, whom I had planed on being my main trade skill character, finally hit the trivial point with Halas Pies and I couldn’t have been happier. But since I’ve changed mains I’m looking at doing it all over again. *shudders violently*

Depending on your class and level, you could also hunt griffons and anacondas in Jagged Pine. They’re good XP and their meat can be used for very easy combines all the way to 250. If I had been smart with my druid I would have saved all the meats and plant shoots for after Halas Pies, but I just couldn’t stand the endless, tedious sub combines and jumped at the chance to combine anything that might get me through the pies just a little faster.

                Best of luck.

Using the PoP fish from Plane of water/Plane of Storms you can get to 222 really nicely. Haven't had an huge stretches (over 50) without a skill upusing these after patty melts trivial'd out.

It took me, and I'm not kidding 1014 attempts to go from 201 to 202. I was doing MTP, HMP, griffon melts, anaconda melts and justice pies. Basically, anything I could get the ingredients for.

Since then I have done maybe 120 combines and have gone from 202 to 209

It will pass but it does get frustrating. Hang in there

I have been doing MTP since 191 to skillup, 120 combines at a time. I was averaging around 3 skillups per session, then when I hit 212 I decided to give HMP's a try. NEVER AGAIN. HMP are the devil. When I filleted the mammtoh and wolf, I was like 'man this is easy'... Then I filleted 100 pieces of bear and lion. THEN creamed 400 pieces of fillets. THEN combined them all 100 times. Oh the pain.
I did go from 212 to 219 in 100 combines though, much better than MTP rates.

But it also took about 3 times as long.

I had the exact same kind of thing happen to me as Crimsonwolf did.

It took me six hours of combines to get from 201 baking to 202. And I had collapsible tradeskill containers on me so running was minimized, tons of bag space, and a mule next to me raw ingredients and selected subcombines so that I would have to move as little as possible. Stood in shadowhaven where everything was very handy.

After a bit more than six hours, I suddenly got 202 and then 203 in two combines. I practically tore the plug out of the wall in my haste to log off in disgust.
