  • Too early to start mtp ?

Im at 196 skill, and decided to try mtp to increase. So far I have got 60 combines with no increases at 296 int. I was just curoius if this is normal, or if I was unlucky, or if I should try something else till 200

    at 190-some odd wis...

196 sucked for me. 197 sucked worse. I did not keep an exact tally of stacks of combines, but i'm sure I did well over 9 sets of 20-combines of HMP, not counting the random Ohabah combines before getting 198. Frankly sir, you are at the point where getting skillups sucks.

I have been recommended that to keep from screaming when making MTPs, don't start them till 210s. On the other hand, since halas 10 trivial lower and so offer more successes, if you DON'T want the bank space occupied by successes, then go for the MTPs.

I suppose if making halas 10s don't bother me, then mtps would be better? ^_^

If you WANT the successes, stick with stuff like halas 10 and ohabah for as long as you can. If you want the skillups, switch over to mtps, but be ready to click for a long time. no matter WHAT you make, the upper 190s are evil. Then again, your int is uber, so for you, it may only be half-evil. ^_^

skill up before trying HMP or MTPs

I'm a firm believer in trying recipes that are more than just one or two trivial points above your current skill, however, with that said, after going through that set of levels already, dont try the recipes with tons of subcombines yet. You'll go crazy. Stick with the lower level trivials until you cant skill up on them any more.

Try and find mushrooms to do more Ohabah Truffles, or spend time farming pixies and buying/foraging cinnamon, or try to get some of the storm salmon that can get you to 202 by just adding sauces.

If you're trying to get to 250 you may not want to waste any griffon or anaconda meat (if you can get some) but skilling up through the 190s/early 200s on simple combines like that save on fingers and sanity.

        Skillups

I found skillups in any skill from 192 to around 208 sucked big time. It is _not_ random. It's easier to get skill ups at 180 than it is at 195 regardless of what you're making.

After 210 it's back to normal.

Tinkering - 198 to 202 took as many clicks making the same things as 170 to 198. 210 to 238 I'm back to getting two skillups per 20'ish combines.

I went with Halas 10lb. Meat Pies.

I farmed the Mammoth Meat in Eastern Wastes near Sleeper's Tomb. Sometimes I hunting my self. Sometimes I healed and buffed groups hunting there. Mammoths were killed non-stop, and I got a stack every hour or two.

I farmed newbie vendors for Wolf Meat, and always had more Wolf Meat than Mammoth Meat.

The Pies sold quite well, and I only made as many as I could sell. After about a week, they were trivial for me, and I moved on to Misty Thicket Picnics.

(One advantage of Misty Thicket Picnics is that you'll never again complain about the number of sub-combines for any other recipe.)

I was told a while abck that in general people didn't seem to get great skill-ups with MTP's and advised me to go with Halas Pies.

I tried a combination of both to compare and I must say that those people were right - I didn't get great skill-up's with MTP's so I switched between the two. Now that Pies are trivial to me I'll probably try to get through the rest of the way to 250 with MTP's.

I used to swithc between doing 100 combines of one and 100 combines of the other, whenever I had collected the components - I found that this worked for me as it gave me a break in the routine and I keep my trader stocked up with both!

                Above all, have fun!

I don't think MTP's were ever the best skillup option per combine. When I could get a few stacks of griffin meat, the skillups seemed to come quicker. On the other hand, it's easier to get supplies for a few hundred combines of MTP's. (And on Kane Bayle, they still sell at a price that makes a profit once you are above 210 or so.)

just recently did baking to 250 and i dont have my exact stats but on average i got 3 skill ups per 100 combines on MTP's and 5 skill ups per 100 combines on halas pies.

i didnt start making either till i was 202 skill.

I took my Baking from 153 to 250 on Picnics when the recipe was first found. Took me 5 days at 10+ hours aday to get it up, but you can do it that way if you want.

After patty melts I exclusively did MTP's, and because of that I found out there was a market for them and made my fortune from it

and I only did them to see if I could make them, it took me 2 days to make my first MTP's now it takes me 40 mins start to finish to get 100 combines and make about 200 of em

I would do only MTPs since from my experience. HMP sub combines are horrible to have to do and take forever to do. My advice although i have no experience with them is go for the MTPs, the base materials that are not vendor bought all make 10 or 72 of the item required and onlly 3 parts for the subcombines for a whole set of combines are not vendor bought.

Thanks for the help. I did mtp pretty much as teh only increase food. I had 2 draughts of well over 100 inbetween increases, lots of 60 inbetween, then several streaks of 1 or 2 per 20 combines. That said Im at 229 now, and went 2 for 4 on platter combines, so Im one happy bard.
