  • How many combines?

I have read through all the posts on the board, and everyone i see post combines for 191-250 or 200-250 have 230+ wis/int. Now for a ranger on a limited budget it would be relatively hard to reach 255 and I am wondering how many clicks i get to look forward to as a ranger with 169 wis. I am also looking for any suggestions besides HMP's and MTP's, that allow for easy to find skill-ups for relatively cheap and that do not require me to spend days foraging for components. I have saved up over 20 stacks each of vegies and fruits, around 10 stacks of fillets (no wolf or mammoth ones though ) and i have roughly 230 picnic baskets with 10 stacks of regular old woven mandrake. Eggs are not to much of a problem iv got almots 6 stacks of different varieties. Anaconda and griffon meats seem to sell for around 20-25 pp a piece and lag is horrible for me in JP. I am also only flagged for tier 1 planes, and only am able to visit PoJ or PoI. I have friends that can help with sub-combines and will have access to a non-pop/loy/sol account. Thanks in advance!

    Hmmm...

We'd probably need to know what your current skill is for suggestions.

Lower wisdom just means more combines... so if it takes 20 per point at 255, it might take you 40 at 150 or whatever you're at.

Check out the MTP guides or the HMP recipe if you are already in your 190's.

I currently have a skill of 191 and with my current skilling gear can get wis to 169. I have read through the guides on this page, several times for some. I was just looking for other feesible plans and skill up suggestions like HMP's til 226 then MTP's to 250, or some other combination there in.

      Thanks for your advice!

There really aren't any. 191-202 you can do truffles, but then you need to do either HMPs or MTPs. If you have a limited budget I'd do HMPs til 226, then jump into MTPs. Even at 191 though you will have a high success rate with HMPs, you will AT LEAST break even, and will probably make some profit (if you farm your own meats/eggs). MTPs suck no matter what your skill. The success rate maxes at something like 50%. Get a geerlok, and start clicking.

The only thing I can add to Gargazon is to take a break every once and a while to make something new.

If JP is laggy you can still probably check the vendors there, and OOC looking for meat, and you can forage for plant shoots. People there for exp are seldom farming the meat to sell, just isn't worth their time. They may be willing to just give it away to you, or take a token amount.

Just to break the monotony of HMP/MTP for days. But you basically nailed it, just make HMP's til 226, then MTP's for most of the time.

Expect to take 80-90 combines for 1 pt a few times for quite a while, it is normal. People have gone 150-200 combines without a skill-up in the 190's, it just happens. Don't sweat it much, and stick with it .

Thank you everyone for your help!!! I went farming/vendor mining for parts for HMPs last night. I have managed to gather about 500 attempts worth of wolf meat, but only got like 7 or 8 mammoth meats in 2 1/2 hrs. I find that i hardly ever get a plant shoot when i go to jagged pines, foraging 183, i think i have maybe gotten 1 stacks worth in my entire time there, leveled there from 41 to 44, then the lag got to me, when i make runs there for cheese i usually go vendor mining and have never gotten any meats, but got 50 eggs last time there.

              Gear

Hey all, I am also interested in suggestions for wis gear, i currently have 2 velium jasper rings, 2 electrum earrings, charred guardian shield, and Rock studded smasher. I am looking to only spend about 600 more and want to get the most bang for my buck. i have 177 wis with the rock studded smasher and a C3 on. I plan on using C3 when doing skill up combines. I have notified my guild that i am trading HMP's and MTP's (when available) for the different items i need for skill ups. I have also managed to scrounge up about 2000 combines worth of Picnic combines, except for a few things(mainly vegies, steel bonings, and jumjum spiced beer, can solve 2 of thoose 3 without too much trouble). I will have access to my friends account to use for storage also as of this weekend. I think i might do about 4 10slot bags worth of HMP subcombines. And the final question is "How many final combines am i looking at roughly for dinging 192-250.

If you can't get your wisdom up at least above 200, expect at least 40 combines/skillup. Might end up being a bit better than that, but at least you won't be disappointed.

So you're looking at 2000+ combines, most of them with many many subcombines. Advice: make sure you have a spare mouse handy.

well maybe ill put my old mouse back on my computer so i dont wear out my new cordless optical mouse. I think i will try to do about 500 combines of HMPs and use the few mushrooms i have. Then i think ill just suck it up on the MTP combines since i already have tons of materials for them. Thank you everyone for your advice. I am still looking for input on gear. Also have metal linked crown (6 wis and other stats)

not to discourage you, but with 177 wis including kei, and at skill 191... please don't be disappointed if you don't hit 250. 2000 combines is a lot, and it will get you very far, yes, but....

i was lucky. getting 194 and 195 within 14 HMP combines... getting 199 AND 200 on consecutive griffon melt combines...

196 sucked. i was at 196 for the longest time. i was so happy hitting 197. getting 198 seemed like a normal time back in the 160s/low170s. 199/200 came about 24 RL hours later; someone, somewhere, likes me today.

the 180s were pretty bad, esp for my first trip through them. The 190s are worse. after that, tho, it will ease up a lot (at least, they say that; they better be right! ^_^).

brace yourself for going through all 2000 combines, and please post what it got you to. i wish you the best of all possible luck, and am interested in the results.

Well, just a liittle update on the monetary situation and some server information. I am mainly just in need of the jumjum cakes and jumjum beers for MTPs and mammoths meat has been a scarcity maybe 80 combines worth with no fails. But recently a RL friend notified me he was quitting so i will probably have atleast 3000 more pp to spend on wis gear and/or item points. So with 3000 pp do you think i can get my wis to 250 or atleast 200. with C3's. Currently have 7 wis rings in my finger slots, a 6 wis item on my head, and a 9 wis in one hand and 8 wis in the other. I am interested in suggestions on gear. For a pricing reference i got the velium jasper rings for 300 and lammys go for 1600 to 2200 on my server.

I'm much more familiar with INT gear, being an enchanter, but a couple of ideas, with estimated prices where appropriate (based on what they usually go for on E'ci, YMMV):

Acrylia Studded Cloak, back slot, +10 WIS, 600-800pp

Beginner's Magic Manual, primary/secondary/range slot, +6 WIS, 400pp (actually is a quest, this is the price for the Hobgoblin Surprise you would need to buy -- though, given that you're skilling up baking, if you can get your hands on Hobgoblin Meat, you may want to try it yourself)

Testament of Vanear if you don't already have it, primary/secondary, +10 WIS, result of a quest that should be easy at your level (only a couple points improvement over what you've got now, but every point counts...)

Velium Ruby Veil, face, +8 WIS, 400-500pp

So that's 24 more WIS in slots you don't mention having WIS gear for, plus a couple more in the upgrade to your primary or secondary, for about 1500 plat.

I suggest heading over to http://everquest.allakhazam.com and scrolling down to quests and typing those 2 in for the complete walkthrus.

For wis gear, maybe get an Emerald DS tunic, 20wis.
At 355 int I averaged about 15-20 combines per point over 200. As a ranger, if you can forage up a good amount of plant shoots from JP, or get anaconda/griffon meat, those are relatively easy to do combines that are trivial up to 250.
