  • Silly (long) HMP Story.

So I've been at 191 Baking since... January or so. I went through about 40-50 non trivial griffon combines, no budging.

My guild has a few tanks that eat HMP's, and have been asking me to make some.... but I always said I was too low.

I happened to have had a stack of wolf meat since a few months back when I almost made a run...

So I see a guy OOCing that he is selling mammoth meat... /sigh

The gods of EQ wanted me to make em, so I bought 7 for 30pp, offered 5 each, he thought he ahd 6, so gave me 7 for the 30 agreed on.

So all I needed to do now was Fillet all this meat... but I had no knife

So I go to halas, really the only Blacksmithing place I know well, buy skewer mold, make bits, and viola, I have a knife.

    Then I go fillet ALL this meat, 70 bear/lion, 7 wolf/mammoth....

Now I need to cream em... no problem I got cream from my last run of QAT....

So I make it into fennel sauce, then cream all of them, end up with 65 of everything (that was worst success, mammoth, destroyed a wolf etc).

I'm thinking, this is a lotta darn sub combines, and a lotta darn work, but I'm ready to make the final combine.

Then I check recipe, and I need dough, so I'm thinking "Doh!"...

I go to Jaggedpine, run through the cave and slaughter anything that says 'genitor' and have 10 eggs in 3 kills. Not too bad, so I make the dough, and go to an oven for the final combine.

After putting everything in I notice I don't have a pie tin.... grrr, a lotta darn work for this.

So I go back to halas, get 2 pie tin molds, make 2 metal bits... and go to PoK to make a Ceramic lining because I couldn't find a wheel anywhere in Halas, a Kiln, but no wheel.

So I make 2 ceramic linings, go to the forge, and succed on 1 of the 2 pie tins, always that way with way trivial combines for me, glad I had prepared.

This time I am really really ready for the final combines... even thought ahead and have my GM satchel and rallic pack empty to hold them.

So I succeed a lot more than I expected, well over 80% or so, though i didn't count and gave some pies away to guild.

So do you know how many skill-ups I got after ALL of that work?

    Do you?

Ok, 5, hehe, so I'm happy as heck about that, was wanting to come here and complain about hell levels, but 191-196 in 65 combines give or take.

So now you've read all this and are thinking, why did I waste 2 minutes of my time on that worthless post?

Got me, I only wrote it .

    hahahahhahaha, that's great. ^_^
    /hug

yeah, my roomie started asking me about HMP, and I had barely gotten to the 'and then you fillet the stacks of meat, and then get the benzoin and 2 milk and spoon....' before she started getting glassy eyed. HMP are not for the weak of heart, wallet, or wrist.

i MADE myself get it down to a science beFORE i started making them... one top half of a box is for the fillets, the bottom half is for the creamed fillets... make the fennel sauce as i go, dough as i go, always seem to have 3-4 stacks of basilisk eggs on me...

you sir are very amusing. ^_^ grats to you on your skillups. *counts on her fingers and considers that she might be about due for a skillup....*

        You're not.

        Congrats, Delf.

Incidentally, the best place to go work on HMPs, imho, is Shadow Haven. There's an oven near the alchemy vendors and the meat vendors are close to the bank near the teleporter pool if you run out of Bear and Lion Meat. I always bind myself in the bank, do the subcombines in the bank (I already have the Mammoth and Wolf Meat filleted and stored away in the bank, and carry dough with me, so I basically just do the Bear and Wolf fillets and all the fillets in cream sauce combines in the bank), then run to the Alchemy vendor for the Sage Leaf (and ingredients for Cream and Creamy Fennel Sauce if I'm running low), do the combines in the oven, then gate back to the bank.

Even without being able to gate back to the bank, its still a pretty short trip compared to working on them in other zones, unless you like carrying around or storing Bear and Lion Meat plus Sage and other Alchemy supplies in the bank instead of just buying them as needed.

hello all, the best place to make halas meat pies is in HALAS! no really. they got everything you need. as for the wheel and kilm, its in the back of the vender's store. you can get lots of bear meat and lots of wolf meat. sometimes you u can buy mammoth meat off venders too. if all else fails, go hunting.
need to make a fillet knife? halas
          need herbs? halas
          need bear meat? halas
          need wolf meat? halas
          need mamoth meat? halas
          nead cream? make some :P
need creamy fennel? make some :P
need pie tins? halas (potter or smithing skills)
need zone with hardly any lag if not none? halas

Halas is one of the best place to do tradeskills. Cept for jewlery...

ps. your story is too funny. what you go through for HPM, is what i have had to for MTP...so i can relate hehe.

            grr...

Shadowhaven still doesn't like me, half of the dealers there are dubious, including all of the baking ones that I wanted to get flour from.

Been too busy to research that darn quest that everyone says is so easy. So I didn't do much of this there, because the ones that will sell to me I have to get my Cha over 150, annoying.

Anyhow there are 2 ovens in PoK, and I wont need to do the smithing at all again, so I am g2g for next time... just need a few mammoth meat at this point.

Break down of the Shadowhaven Merchant Registration Quest.

1 ) Go to the magistrate in the building next to the bridge to Paludel Caverns. He's just inside the door and to the right. Go though his speech (total of three replies) and hotkey them as socials.

2 ) After your 3rd reply (agreeing to deliver a letter) run to the Bazaar. The central building in the bazaar between the 2 banks (only 2-story building) is the one you want. Head in and go towards the staircase. NPC you want is the human right behind the staircase. (There are two NPCs standing together, the other one is a Gnome or Halfling; I didn't pay enough attention to notice anything other than; shorter than a Wood Elf and not a Dwarf.)

3 ) Give him the letter and he gives you a report.

              4) Give the report to the magistrate who sent you on the quest. Magistrate then gives you a book.

5 ) Run to Fungus Grove through the Echo Caverns via the "secret passage" in the Rouge trainers room (behind the soulbinder, door is to the right of her as you are facing the binder.) If the "Secret Passage" is still a secret to you: head into the room and go to the far wall. Turn left and run THOUGH the (now far) wall. Run through the next wall and follow the passage to Echo Cavern. While in Echo Cavern, look out for the tentacled thingies along your way as they CAN root and damage you even though you can not even target them. If you DO get rooted, keep trying to run; you should break it eventually and get far enough away to escape.

6 ) Fungus Grove looks like a fort built in a cavern. After passing through the "gate", turn left at the water. Turn left again at the wall (just a few steps away) and head up the stairs. The door on your left is the one you want.

7 ) Open the door and give the book to the person directly behind the door. He'll give you some papers to return to the magistrate.

8 ) Back track (there is a place to slip out by heading part way up the stairs to the left of the merchant that cuts out a few turns) and turn in the last report. End of quest and you get your amulet (item is lore so you only get 1 but the quest can be done unlimited times.)

I went from dubious to indifferent in only 7 runs of it so the faction mod is BIG. Get a SOW in the Nexus right before you start and you should be able to make 4-5 runs of the whole thing before the SOW runs out.

              Now you have no excuse.

                  Doh... um...

How many times have I said I'd do that quest?

I really really really am out of excuses...

Heck, I'm gonna print that lovely little run down out, and do it tonight... maybe .

P.S. This thread is locked to Lilosh, I'll have no mockings here.

Lilosh... you do know there is no text in that post right??

Ok, I ran the quest, with only that printout... the added difficulty of no names and the vague 'gate' reference in fungus grove were totally bonuses .

                      hehehehe

Thanks for the walkthrough, now I am amiable to the ones that were apprehensive... and dubious to ones that were dubious... hold up, that sucks

Guess I gotta run it again and again, with the necklace I'm apprehensive so I can buy from the others at least.

There are two faction quests you can run simultaneously in SH that will boost your factions. I've stolen the details from a post buried in the Allakhazam discussions. The source is on this page:

                        http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=1534

                        ***Recieve experience
                        ***Recieve Amulet of the Haven
I've run this double-quest numerous times, and now I don't even need the amulet to get best prices from any merchant in SH or the bazaar. Whenever I find a newbie who needs his amulet, I'll run it again with him. Takes maybe 10-15 minutes to do all this with a SoW, faster if you can bind yourself in SH and gate back after each step.

hi all. this is how you can increase your faction fairly well. three quest in one (a cycle is what i call)
                          1) trade comminssioner quest
                          2) Tailoring Supply quest
                          3) Box of supply (dwarf merchant smith)

since you have to go to bazaar anyways, you can do all this in a smooth cycle. have sow helps cut time down.

start with commissioner the go to the barb for trailoring quest then stop by the dwarf smith and get box from him (you can do any steps either way) make sure you have all three items for bazaar. zone to bazarr give the box of supply (something like that i forget) to halfing opposite of gnome) then stop to give note to another gnome in the building (merchant stores) then go to the gnome to drop off the tailoring thing. you will get back an item from each one. now zone back (get sow) to shadow haven give note to commissioner, give gems to barb merchant and give (forgot what it was hehe ) k, now go to echo caverns, the secret passage(thats where the evil guilds are nobody is kos there its behind sliding wall rock looking thing) ok back to this quest, avoid those plants things that you cant target (have gate ready in case) go to fungus groove. drop stuff off then gate or run back. repeat this oh....8-10 times. you will get factions in no time (total time it took me minus zoning, 1hour 30 mins) althou now i am ally with everyone in shadow haven. hope this helps and sorry on not being so detailed but the general idea should help you start. if i left anything out let me know.

I ran the quest A LOT last night.

The hit for Traders of the Haven was much bigger than the rest. I went from apprehensive to ally in the time it took for me to go from dubious to apprehensive in all the other three.

I continued the rounds until I had been max ally with Traders of the Haven for 3 or 4 trips, until the others are Finally indifferent.

Basically that is all you need, with my base CHA of 122 (with regular fighting equip) I now get best price with every merchant in Shadowhaven.

So yeah, you guys were right it was worth it. Doing 2 quests at once may have been an option, but this was very easy, memorised in 1 trip, and I think bigger hits than the other quests.

Yeah, Steaton is good for Traders of The Haven, but the other 3 hits are tiny.

The Trade Commish Henry Quest gives BIG hits to all 4.
