  • Baking the new trend?

I've been noticing that there are more people selling baked goods every day.

It looks like the biggest bandwagon is Misty Thicket Picnics. (No denying it; picnics are twink food now ) Holy Cakes, Justice Fruit Pies, and Halas 10lb Meat Pies aren't nearly so bad. I have been in the bazaar almost every day for months, and the number of people selling food has only increased. Mostly repeat sellers, but there are new people every day. There were 14 people selling Misty Thicket Picnics at once this afternoon.

Are other servers experiencing a ton of bakers entering the market like Veeshan? (heck, even me.. I've only been Baking on a daily basis for a couple months. I'm by no means an "old timer." :P )

You should have followed the example smiths have set. Never ever ever tell someone how much you can make from a tradeskill!

The first time someone says "I bought a horse with money I made from baking" you're all doomed.

I’m not surprised baking is so popular, but then I’m rather biased. Not only can you make stat foods, but from day one your making items that everybody can use. Lets face it, hand a random level 20 character a piece of tattered armor or a file and he or she is likely to toss it on the ground or sell it to a vendor. But hand them a stack of bear sandwiches and they’re likely to eat them. And backing is just plane fun. What other skill lets you make things like batwing crunchies, lizard on a stick or edible goo? So I figure it’s about time word got out that baking is the best trade skill in the game.

Baking was fun for me and I started it a long time ago. I used to think what the hell can I do with these giant meats and such. Found out can make stat food. I am surpised how under valued stat food was to so many and even to this day. How many aa do people pound out for an extra point or two in a stat and not even think about using food to make that point up.

More times than not I have FD with just the HP left on my currect food item left on me before I am on a CR.

          Market:

Had Hero Sandwiches in bazar for days on end not even selling one and I was only seller. Had them at 75 each dropped them to 50 sold them all.

Once you get used to it, nothing likes un-dispellable stat buff.

Yes, it seems there are a lot more Bakers that there used to be.

There was one other Baker in my guild that I know of when I joined. Since then about three or four other guild members have started on Baking, and I've actually been helping them out with gear (pie tins, filleting knives) and advice.

I've sold some food to guild members, but I mostly make my sales through the Bazaar and through auctioning in PoK, so I won't lose much money, if any, from this. I hope.

As for stat foods, I'm still working on Halas 10 lb Meat Pies for skill-ups, so that's what I sell. And even after I start on MTPs, I'll probably keep making HMPs to sell, since they're less likely to give me carpal tunnel syndrome and more likely to make a profit for me.

Heh, not convinced on the carpal tunnel bit, I find pies (not en masse, just because I need a stack or two) a lot less painful ...

Actually, I crunched the numbers - HMPs take four times as many total combines as MTPs - the only advantage to them is that you don't need a 50 smithing, 80 tailoring and 160 brewing to do them.

Players who sell Kaladims, Misty Thicket Picnic's and Halas meat pies at very very low prices, generally seem to stop after a short while. Then prices go back up again.

Bad thing is, this cycle repeats itself over and over hehe.

Hmmmm.......I've never really compared the difference between # of combines for HMPs and MTPs. But the way I work, I'd get carpal tunnel from the MTPs before I'd get them from the HMPs. (I make the Creamy Fennel Sauce for HMPs ahead of time, for one thing, but with MTPs, I'll probably sit down and do EVERYTHING (aside from the Picnic Baskets) in one marathon session - don't want to keep all those components in the bank)

But the components for HMPs take up less bank space, if you make EVERYTHING yourself, anyway.

I'm training up Brewing so I can make the Jumjum Spiced Beer, and I'm training my Druid alt in Tailoring so he can make the Picnic Baskets (and Handmade Backpacks).

(UG, stupid me and the back button....)

Like I said 5 minute ago before ruining my own post, lol.

Vazaelle got 2 new bakers about a week back. They appeared out of no where and promptly killed out HMP market. Most of the bakers were holding steady at 5pp(there were only like 3 of us), and then a flood of other ones came, with the 2 that marked down to 2.7pp/2.8pp. The rest of us can no longer sell another pie without marking below them.

These guys have to be immune to pain, because they ALWAYS have 200+ pies to sell(so there goes the idea of buying them out and marking up).

So becareful of these people coming into "your market" and setting up shop, they may not go away quickly, but when they do, they usually have screwed up the market so bad that it takes months to recover.

Speaking for myself, I am one of these horrible people "ruining" the markets. I got to where I didn't really have a choice though. Not an acceptable one to me at least. I am using HMPs to skill up, as so many others do. I had a trader with them on him at 3-4pp each, which is still a **** good price for what you get imoho. They sat there. I had 24 10 slot backpacks FULL of pies, yeah, thats right 4800 pies. I ended up having to run around the higher end zones after every batch (I make 100 skill attempts when i combine pies) with almost 30 stacks of pies trying to find people willing to buy large quantities for 2-2.5pp each. I finally said screw it, stopped baking for a little while while I sold my pies for 2.5-2.9pp each on my bazaar mule to get rid of them, and at the same time make some money so I can afford to skill up on MTPs.

224 skill atm, and had planned to trivial pies b4 moving on, but instead I just farmed a stack of brownie parts. I'm going to start picnics tonight. Once I hit 250 I am going to make a tophy, get my bag out of the deal, and if I am able to make descent money out of baking I may continue to do it, other than that I'll be out of the market...for baking at least. I still have 6 other skills to go.

One other thing that might help tradeskills some is to change the way they are done. As it stands atm, there are only two things that matter when skilling up, Int, and Wis. I know smithing has a str componet, and archery may or may not have a dex componet, but the ones that really matter are int and wis. The problem is that it makes things really out of balance in favor of casting classes. This causes players like my poor troll warrior to have to do many many times the number of combines that ANY casting class will have to do to get the same skill ups, which means I am dumping that many more items onto the market to screw it up in the process. Of course that would be assuming Sony cares about class/game balance, which, sadly, they have proven over and over again that they don't.

I offer a sympathetic hug to you all.

My roommate trained me in EQ, and her friend "T" trained her. "T" told her yesterday that he, a 58 druid playing for well over a year, did not know what a forge was.

This is the general state of tradeskills on Sullon. Anyone like Xefin, Ianthe, Sindeya, me, we are exceptions. We have either been playing too long for our own good, or, in my case, are too obsessed for our GPA's own good.

I sell HMP for 8p out of the bag. I have a couple people whom I alert with a tell when I go AFK for the night... "Sir, just so you know, I have another batch of HMP..." My one member of constant competition is apparently an irritating person, so even though she has 100+, occasionally 160+ pies on her, my 78 pies generall sell better, even tho we are both and have never been anything but 8p.

There is one consistant seller of MTP, "G". He is priced at 250p. Occasionally, "S" or "I" show up, selling for anywhere from 220p to 300p. For one MTP. There is one other seller who's name is evocative of a very derogitory term beginning with "A" who undercuts them all by asking for 164.751p. For one MTP.

New bakers ruining the market? Not on Sullon. We don't have the time; we have a revenge list.

(Ought to search for Holy Cakes next time I'm on.... probably get a blank screen... )
