I thought about making the title of this thread "250, now what?" but im not 250, but I have been thinking. What do bakers do when they are 250? Tailors make cultural/pop/velious stuff. Same with Smiths. But what about us? Do we continue to make HMPs and MTPs to sell? Do we just get so fat that we cant move? Anyone know?

Hitting 250 for me meant that I found an aspiring baker to give all of the meats that I collect in my experience groups. I still bake, but pretty much only for personal consumption and for friends. I've made up a few batches of picnics to sell, but only because I had a ton of the precombines already done from when I was skilling up. In general, though, the end product sells for so little that I don't find it worthwhile to spend the time baking for profit.
I have to admit I have thought about selling hero's, though... I have about 15 stacks of meat in the bank, and someone said something about selling them for 100pp each... that's tempting. I am at 206 in Baking (but 250 in Brewing, and still active).
Even when I hit 250, I will still be baking stuff for sale, and to give away to friends as well.
The whole, tradeskill creation of items thingy is what holds my attention at the moment. I don't want to just reach 250, then not utilise the skill, although there is nothing wrong with doing that. My goal has always been to Bake things as a business or for quests, using the skill several times a week if possible.

You know what this baker did when he hit 250 two days before christmas?
Stopped Baking. It's odd, but once I hit 250, and made my spoon, I stopped. I went from enjoying baking, to having no desire to bake in any kind of quantity.
I got tired of making picnics, and having to watch people Undercut me all the way down to 10 plat. Having to wait two weeks to sell picnics.
Tired of having Griffon Casserole and Anaconda Casserole sit on my trader.
Sick of never having planar combine material.
Maybe now that I am about to Ding 50, I will be EXPing in PoP, and I will save the meat to start baking with.
But until then, I will bake for myself and my friends only.

I can't stop baking. I have <i>just about</I> stopped buying every meat that I see on a vendor but the temptation is there every time.
Every mule/bazaar vendor has food of a different type ... when I really have a lot I start specifying different types of food for different mules (the troll has pickled froglok, the Impossible Bream mule has fish in creamy sauce, etc). I find it wonderful that when someone wants some pies, I can just throw together a small amount of subcombines knowing that my success rate will be as good as it can possibly be and there is no reason to make extra. It's great thinking "I'd like to make that" and not thinking "oh, but it's trivial to me, I should really focus on skill-up recipes."
Personally, losing the "I must skill up" aspect was a relief. Now I can just bake for fun

Personally I still bake. I only make MTPs, and I make them purely for profit.

after 250
After I hit 250, I pretty much quit baking too. MTP run about 6 pp on Xev, and it just isn't worth it anymore. I don't know if I could look at another MTP combine again anyway. :shock:Modred Tauntier

The problem many people have with Baking is that they hit 250 skill... then there's nothing "new" they can make.
If you're level 63+ and hitting the tier-2 & tier-3 Planes, then there's still plenty to be done... otherwise it's just more of the same.
Unlike, for example, Cultural Smithing... where you really can't skill-up on the BD recipies, so reaching 250 is "the beginning".Angelsyn Whitewings, Cleric of Tunare for 66!

Now what?
That's actually a good question... I probably won't want to do another batch of MTPs or HMPs for as long as I continue to play..it's much cheaper (and easier on the poor brain) to buy them off the other poor fools that are trying to skill up. I think, at that point, you could explore some..try some of those strange sounding recipes (Deadly Medly?) Justice Fruit pies and such for guild raids is always an option too. But the market is too hosed to continue baking for profit, unless you like the mind numbing number of precombines neccessary for some of the highend baking products.
