  • Halas Meat Pie

Is there a good way to get all the supplies together for this recipe. I really want to get my skill up, which is 212 atm, but not having much luck with Holy Cakes. (Although I'm successful on almost all combines, skill ups are slow)

Just seems like a lot of stuff to put together and I am looking for any short cuts. (yes I'm lazy)

Any tips would be most helpful!

There are no shortcuts ) Including farming and all the filleting, cream making, etc etc... it takes me a good 10 hours before I even sit down to make the pies...

Halas pies are great money... although they just hit an alltime low on Veeshan... 2pp 5gp per pie... I always sell cheapest and someone matched me at 3pp... dang them...

At any rate.. they are great money. If you decide to do them, bewarned - wolf meat is very hard to come by... or has been for me. Mammoth meat is easiest to get in Eastern Wastes. And the other 2 are vendor purchased.

    Happy Baking!

Check vendors in EC for Wolf Meat. You should be able to get several pieces there, unless you go right after a patch or server crash.

Don't expect to get a lot of fast skill-ups doing HMPs, though. I did AT LEAST 75 combines (Not all were HMPs, though. I did about 8 Griffon Melts, too) before I went from 191 to 192 (and got another skill-up 5 combines later, but I had KEI at that time). I've done another 20 or so combines (15-17 with that KEI still on me) and haven't had a single skill-up since the one that put me at 193. Of course, you might gain skill-ups faster, since you're past the apparent `Tradeskill Hell' skill points....

My advice would be to hit Jaggedpine or the Karanas, farm Griffon Meat, and make Griffon Melts (or Cheesy Griffon Casseroles, if you don't mind using eggs to make noodles instead of dough). I seemed to get more skill-ups from doing those than from HMPs. (I'd be doing those now, if I had a source for Griffon Meat)

(But I'm in no hurry to hit 200 - It'll be a LONG time before I can afford to attempt to make a trophy)

My favorite place for wolf meat has always been East Karana, the vendors there usualy has a stack between them, and i can kill a few spiders while i'm there :-)

East Karana, eh? I'll have to look there sometime. Thanks for the tip, andorf.

(I'm KOS in the Freeport area due to killing the guards at the tollbooth in WC a few times too many, so I've been buying meat from the inns with an alt, then finding people to help with transferring the meat or shoving the meat into a brew barrel or oven somewhere while I switch characters)

Kelethin is a good place for wolf meat. Either that, or, if you can SoW or don't mind the walk, take the PoP book from Qeynos, check QH, SFG, JP, WK, NK, SK, Lake Rathe, and Rathe Mtn. vendors, then catch the book in Feerot back to PoK. If you make that nice little journey, and kill every wolf in sight, you will have a great deal of wolf meat in just a few hours.

Great tips all! Thanks so much. I did try making MTP's today, and went from 212 to 218 off 60 combines!!! (something must be wrong)

                  farming ingredients for HMPs

                  Hey,

Of all the ingredients needed for HMPs, the one I have trouble with is the mammoth meat. Like mammoth meat though, wolf meat produces 10 fillets. Now my secret for wolf meat is that I have befriended a young druid in Kelethin. He shouts out and buys wolf meat from other players and mines the merchants as well. When he has a stock pile for me, he sends me a tell, and I go pick up my supplies. Since I haven't reached 202 yet, he is still collecting pixie dust and cinnamon sticks as well. He also collects moring dews and evergreen leaves for me. These items I sell in the bazaar. I pay him 5 gold per wolf meat, 5 gold per pixie dust, 1 pp cinnamon stick, 1 pp per evergreen leaf and 5 plat per morning dew. He doesn't have the expansions yet, and this is his very first character, so it has turned into a mutually beneficial situation. If he somehow falls short of my needs, I frequently get wolf meat mining the merchants. Meat is much cheaper from outlying vendors than having to buy it from the meat merchant in Shadow Haven.

I've just read tonight in a post that mammoth meat is more plentiful in Eastern Wastes as opposed to Everfrost. Can anyone verify that for me?

                  Thanks.

Yes, much more meat in EW. Adds can be bad though.

EW is excellent for Mammoth meat, as long as you don't mind the dervishes, cougars, wolves, orcs, giants, manticores, griffs, etc. all glaring/scowling at you, or folks doing the ring wars without warning the zone first. That, and the mammoths in EW have a lot more HPs than the ones in Everfrost. Now, if you want to hunt for exp, which I did for 3-4 levels when most things were dark blue but fairly easy to kill, or if you are doing the 3rd (Baking) Shawl, EW is the place to be. Sit on the bridge, kill whatever passes by, including mammoths, and you will have a few stacks before you know it. If you want speed and ease of kill, go to Everfrost.

                        Hmp, meats and baker life

Well, I was whinning on this board last week about the low price of HMP
on my server (3pp 5gp, sometimes 3pp 2gp), but now someone is selling 400 of them at 2 pp  #$?%?, sigh!

I am currently hunting in EW, cause I really had problems with mammoth meat in Halas and Everfrost... Didn't had so much of them, 1 in 4 tundra mammoth (the ones that con blue to me ), but I run in bad luck this week: something like 20 mammoths WITOUTH ONE, crying . I must have pissed off the rng god, sigh!

So I'm back to check for them in the bazaar. 5pp and lower is ok for me, but some incredible hungry plp are asking 20 pp and more.

Can't imagine going to 226 on HMP, but can't go fishing in PoS or PoW at the moment... I even ask the somebody from the Uber guild on my server (Marius Imperium, formely know as Kupo Flox, minimum lvl of... 65!). She told me that they are often going to PoW but have also plp that are tradeskilling. I wonder how can they have time to tradeskill, when they have 6 days a week of raid, and to be in that guild, you need to raid 5 of them?

Oh well, back to HMP, I guess.

Could we start a thread for bakers that need encouragement ?

EW for the mammoth meat. If you're a druid that's 53+ just call of karana a snow griffon elder and watch him eat everything in your path alive. If not then you'll have to do the work yourself.

Vendor mine in the commons and karanas for wolf meats. If you PBAoE in EK for wolf meats you'll end up with a stack in a little less than an hour. The hardest part is waiting on the respawn after you kill all the gorge hounds at once. The forages and spider silks out of there are just icing on the (jumjum) cake.

Either way expect to spend less money on HMP's than on holy cakes and to spend a LOT more time farming ingredients and doing combines. The HMP subcombines are satan incarnate. Quiver in fear before them. A good downtime tip would be to carry a spit and do the bear/lion fillets while you're hunting. That will save a little time.
