  • Breaking 191

I attempted to push baking from 191 to 200 last night, making Misty Thicket Picnics. With 255 Int, and my Geerlock baking device, I spent a little time, combining ingrediants for 120 attempts. Of the 120 attempts, I managed 1 skill-up and 8 successful combines. I had hoped for more than 1 skill-up (which I got around the 100th combine, give or take 5).

I have never seen such a bad string of attempts, with no skill ups before. Should I continue to fail at MTPs for my last 8 levels, or attempt to make something that trivials less?

I'd go for ohabah truffles if you just want to skill up to 200, or HMP if you want to skill up and make your investment back.

Your results aren't very surprising. MTPs are a 50% success rate at 250 skill. I've gone 150+ combines before without a skill up. Some nights the RNG just isn't your friend.

If you're going for skill ups, there are less click-intensive routes to go.
If you're going for cash, there are better items to make than MTPs.

I have to equate the RNG to an old saying:

Sometimes you are the windshield and sometimes you are the BUG.

Sounds like you were the bug in that fight :P

I also agree i went from 190 to 200 with Truffles are much easier on the wrist and still sell on my server for 1-2 pp or more I gave a ton away and the others i sold at the going rate and they were gone in 2 days.

        Good Luck

That sounds like a good thing, but aren't mushrooms only Foragable? Not everyone that bakes is a forager.

That may be true, but everyone has a bazaar.

Foragers sell mushrooms all time, for anywhere from 2g-1p.

Each success yields 6 truffles, so even if you have a rock bottom server price of 5g per truffle, you still can just about break even.

Of course, the truffle market is normally bubkiss on most servers, so I didnt expect to make plat on truffles. I made my money back on Filets and patty melts, from 40-191. I have made FAR more money from baking then I have EVER put in from 0-250.

So even if you have to pay 1 plat each for mushrooms, and even if you destroy the successes, or give them to friends, or drop them on the ground, then you'll be ok.

Taking a small loss from 191-202 , to get slightly easier skillups, is probably going to be the last loss you take from baking. If you even take one at all.

Halas pies are time consuming, but profitable to skill on. Misty Picnics are, again, troublesome, but even at 10p each, you will make more then your money back.

So, again, even if you have to take the tiny loss by buying mushrooms because you dont know any foragers, do it.

Another option from 191-202 are Pixie Powder Cinnesticks. 3 Pixie dusts, 1 cinnamon stick. And who doesn't like killing pixie after pixie?

On a more serious note, this is good if you can't get to CS for the supplies to make truffles due to faction or lack thereof. Cinnamon sticks are also foraged, but can be found in the Bazaar and/or vendors in Kelethin. Pixie dust can sometimes be found on vendors as well, or can be slaughtered at their tower in L-Fay.

I, on the other hand, did HMP from 191-201, with a few cinnesticks, truffles, and whatever PoP recipes I could vendor mine for. HMPs will (maybe?) sell, and you will at least get your money back with some profit if that is a concern.

                Good luck!

You're in the hell levels of baking - don't be surprised if you average 100-150 combines per skill up till you get to 202 or so - it's happened to me with baking, fletching and JC to date.

The problem with HMP from 191-202 is that most people ALSO do HMP from 202-226.

And 35 points of HMP (especially 191-210) is worse then death.

I am hunting in JP often, so I figured Griffon Melts, same recipe as patty melts would be the best . No sub combines, no foraging, very easy.

Got to 191 on Patty Melts then switched.

                        Results :

26 Griffon Combines, 1 Anaconda Combine

7 feast sized Griffon Melts created

                        Current skill: 191

Oh well, guess I have to keep hunting there.

I did obahah truffles till 202. I decided that I couldn't face the greenie hunting, mountain of combines, and tons of GIANT size HMPs to 216. I also found that I had gathered a lot of baking supplies OTHER than mammoth meat (I never find mammoth for some reason) for recipes all the way up to 250+ skill required, AND I have multiple foragers (plus hunting in JP actually gives exp). So, instead of passing all my high end 'found items' to a friend, I've decided to just use them to skill up on instead. Sure, it will take longer, and I'll fail a lot, but I'll stay sane......

(I have stacks of griffon meat, anaconda meat, plant shoots, jord meat, justice fruit, and vann toes just from two weeks of semi active vendor mining and foraging).

As always, YMMV, no guaranties or warranties expressed

I don't know if this is common knowledge, but Der Forager Llumm (sp?) near the entrance to the new Gukta zone sells mushrooms. He will disappear on a foraging run, then come back with 25 mushrooms in his inventory. As long as you can get brown algae, it makes it very easy to go from 191 to 202.

I'm sticking to Halas 10lb Meat Pies, and Cheesy Griffon Casseroles when I can get the ingredients, for raising skill. I got from 185 to 191 by doing those (most of the skillups were from the Casseroles). I can't get to Cobalt Scar to buy the Brown Algae, or I'd do that and go hit Echo Caverns with my Druid or Ranger to do some foraging.

I pay 10 to 20pp a stack for Mammoth Meat in the Bazaar and hunt for Basilisk Eggs in Lavastorm (or forage eggs with an alt), but I was getting Griffon Meat (and Plant Shoots on occasion) from a Ranger and a Druid in my guild, but they quit hunting in Jaggedpine a long time ago.
