  • Small game hunting - brownies

OK, now I'm a 47 toll SK who's rapidly gaining on 48th - do I have a chance in heck of taking on the brownie town in LF to farm brownie parts? If not, what's the minimum level for folks who want to do so?

On a semi-related note - what level does a chanter have to get in order for the faction spells to chill the brownies out enough that a chanter can buy mana spells without begging a wolf form? When I was young I tried the "invis in and then cast minor illusion trick" except there was one glitch - the guards tore me a new one as soon as I started casting.

Not sure about the illusions, but AllaKhazam has brownies listed at 45 for the guards, low 30s for merchants and outcasts, and high 30s-low 40s for scouts. As a caution though, they are considered by some as severe undercons and are generally KOS to everyone.

I wouldn't recommend hunting there, but that's just my opinion, and several of us know exactly what that is worth.

      Another choice:

Skunk, if you're going to be in LFAY anyway, another option is to go on a pixie slaughtering spree to spawn Brownie Outcasts, which are light blue at to me at 45, and also drop the parts, the spawns are a little slower (2 spawn every 15 minutes or so). So if the Brownie town proves to be too tall an order, you can still get your parts at least. During the course of killing enough pixies to have 3 stacks of pixie dust, I collected 8 or 9 brownie parts from the outcasts.

In answer to your original question, you *should* be able to handle the brownies at the town, provided you can come up with an intelligent, consistent strategy to single pull them.

      Hope that helps,

          LFay Brownies

I was able to acquire the first three of the mana spells with my level 12 Erudite Enchanter.

I ran the north zone wall invisible then moved south to the Brownies' hut and stopped out of aggro range. I cast "Alliance" on the guards which got me to con "dubious" with them. I moved next to the merchant on the left and cast "Minor Illusion." I was then able to buy the spells. I gated immediately.

          Good luck.

I went in with my 52 monk to buy spells for my newbie Chanter.

I just ran by and FD'd on the way in to lose agro, sneak worked fine to buy.

On the way out I figured what the heck, so I split the guards and tried one....

The thing hit like a truck, 130 or so I think... might be a bit lower. I happened to have had HoS on me from earlier, but I ended fight at 30% health. It did drop a brownie part. I didn't try the other guard.

I think a lvl 47 SK should be able to do 1 at a time, but I don't know enough about the class to be sure. Also no clue if you can split, how well roots work etc.

P.S. Elemental illusions work to trade there so I hear.

As a 51 paladin, I wouldn't have the proverbial snowball's chance against something that hits for 130. A shadowknight might do better, as his spells are more offensive in nature, and he might be able to do things such as fear kite, but it seems somewhat iffy.

You could just go to Steamfont. Hang left after you zone in, you should come to a raised area with a 3 tent kobold camp nearby. Slaughter stuff around the camp. A mix of rats, skeletons, brownies, and some other stuff. Low level brownies, easies to kill.
It's up to you, what you do will decide your own fate.

I am on the Lanys Brownies Most Wanted list

They do not agro wolf form. Get a druid friend to wolf you up and you will be good to go for a while. I used to Root/Rot them from lv 54-58 They were great exp!

Between spawns I would do all my sub combines for Halas Pies / Picnics - many many moons ago...

                    Neither would I.

When it first hit me that hard I almost FD'd it off immediately... but it didn't seem to be hitting very often.

By half way down I had slightly more health than it and naturally it turned when it got low, or I would have been near death.

Also the buffs were a big help, I only remember having HoS, but I may have had Ageo and left over haste... kinda bad that I don't remember it well.

I can't kill a Sambata that hits for 120 without a group to support me, but they seem to hit me a whole heck of a lot more often.

This is good advice. My level 21 , horrible equipped, ranger was hunting Brownies with no problem. Level 8-10 , and I got brownie parts EVERY TIME. Unless a kobold shaman, or minotaur hero decided he looked yummy. But then again, a kobold pawn probably could have knocked him over if it caught him by suprise.

Go to eqatlas, find a map of Steamfont, and find the windmill. THen find the entrance to the mino caves. My ranger was CONSTANTLY finding brownies near the entrance to the Mino cave, and near the big skeleton.

The poster above is correct that illusion:earth elemental makes you non-kos to brownies. As far as hunting them at 47, it's not worth the time and effort. They are undercons. Even as a low 50's druid they weren't worth it when kiting.

First - why would you kite them? They are casters, druids no less. I killed them without a problem at all except that **** Equestrielle the Corrupted that would bug me while I was baking every once in a while. The exp was awesome! I would literally watch my exp bar move per kill.

Root, snare, epic, ss bracer, WD, breath of ro and sit - wash, rinse, repeat  I would kill everyone in the town except one merchant (to be nice) I would kill the spiders for the spiderling silks and make leather padding, forage for morning dews and get exp all the same time /sigh Oh the memories...

                            Brownie Guards

A while back, the brownie guards got nerfed to the point of not casting any more, which dropped their difficulty a fair amount. Without Harmony or some other way to split them, they are almost impossible to single pull until level 56. Might be able to feign pull them, but it'd be pretty iffy. Pick up some shaman made DS potions, those will help a lot if you are going to give it a shot. If a 56+ charachter is in zone, you can always ask them to do your initial split, oughta be cake from there.
Spawn time for the guards is 18 min, so evenly splitting them gives you one fight every 9 min, which is kinda slow, and if you don't pull the farmer and the 3 brownies around the campfire, the drop rate is gonna be pretty slow, even though they drop parts virtually every time.

The Steamfont brownies are a lot easier to kill, but of course, won't give any experience.

Just a little defense here from a Monk with a bit of pride.

There are not 2 mobs in the game I know of that a decent monk can't split. Especially when you have room to work with, and there was an entire zone in this case, hehe. Guards took 1 tag, one went back, the other followed quickly... but not quick enough.
