  • Got my Trophy (and a suggestion)

After two failures last night I got my spoon! Woot!

But here is the kicker, two of my friends got there Trophys first time following my advise so if you are planning to try for a trophy give the following a try (it wont cost you a thing)

I know and read all the pro's and con's about Int vs Wis and what does what and agree with some and think other ideas are bunk, but to tell you the truth after two failures I did it all! C3, strength buffs, geerlock! You name it, but here is the key to success.

Have you ever noticed how the first time you combine an item its a success? I have. So I've experimanted with it and to my surprise there is a higher percentage success rate for the first combine I had a 5% failure rate compared to 25% failure rate!

To try it yourself just get prepared to combine items then log all the way out, wait 5 min (very important) then log back in and do your combine. I think you will be surprised with the results! So far, as said earlier peeps are three for three in gaining trophies on first try follow this advise.

So let me see if I'm understanding you here...

The very first combine you do when you log in has the best chance for a success?

Thus, my troll is 10 points away from doing his trophy, let's say I get those 10 points tonight when I log on. Assuming I've got the other peices done and all that's needed is the final combine in the oven, I should log completely to desktop and then log back in and do the final trophy combine before anything else?

If that's what you're saying, then that would probobly also be a good idea for important combines such as the Shawl, BD armor and anything else that's got very expensive and/or rare components of which one would only be doing a few combines with.

That is correct! Just make sure you wait the 5 min unplugged from Everquest. The reason for this is toallow the server a chance to reset. For example: If you have a no rent item and go link dead and come back on...you will still have your item. But if you wait 5 min and come back on its gone (the server reset)

Good luck and please post your results!

Nice theory,BUT it don't work. I logged on today and immediatly took my Artisan's Seal and my dairy spoon to the oven and attempted to meke the trophy.

          Ouch!

hmm Ouch! Was your skill at 250? I noticed you have it set to 220 in your post. During my test I did have failures. But the percent was dramatically reduced.
My sympathies after failing twice I know how frustrating it can be.

Incorrect. This has nothing to do with a server refresh. SOE (when it was Verant) made some coding changes to allow you to keep no rent items for a few minutes after you log out. This is primarily for people that go linkdead. SOE used to recieve numerous complaints about people keeping cash items in no rent bags, going linkdead for a few minutes, and losing said items. This timer on no rent items was SOE's answer to the problem.

Anyone else remember when you could put a no rent item in the bank and it wouldn't poof after you logged?

But getting back on topic... a higher chance of success on your first try doesn't sit well with the way I understand skilling up or getting successes works. Three times isn't enough data, either. I could flip a coin three times and have it land on tails three times. That doesn't mean that when you flip a coin it'll land on tails *every* time.

This is an interesting topic. I'd just like some more information on how the coding would work with this. Until then, I'm going to be wary of moving it from the "you get a higher chance of success when you put the items in the oven in a certain order" train of thought.

Someone else posted before about the best way to get a trophy success is to make a run of other items then switch to the trophy. That the switch between the 2 items being different would help make the combine work. It may have just been dumb luck, but after 6 or 7 failures on my pottery trophy, I tried that method by firing a bunch of steins and the doing my trophy and I got it. I did the same thing with baking since I had the trophy stuff on me when my baking hit 250. I got my spoon that time where when i had tried earlier at 242 skill when i just logged in I had failed it.

Tried your theory with a 240 baking and geerlok - crashed and burned first try and with how laggy I was being this evening, didn't have time to rinse and repeat - succeeded after having failed my trophy and made a spoon for second shot.

The server does not reset. You do not lose no rent items in 5 minutes. A while back, SoE change the timer on no rent items to be 30 minutes. Therefore, any no rent items you have on you will remain on you for thirty (30) minutes after logging. The server does not reset unless someone at SoE hits the reset button, pulls the plug, etc.

Succeeding on the trophy, all comes down to luck, in my opinion. Although, it doesn't hurt to attempt a few superstitions from time to time in an attempt to adjust "luck" on your side

I would be willing to try anything at this point, superstition or not. I have failed 4 (yes 4!) spoon attempts now. I have already tried the 'combine until you failed x picnics and then your chances are better for a combine'. I have tried with kei and mega shammy buffs... /sigh

I will try this next when I have the money... and the patience.. to try this again.

doh guess i am a lucky troll

i guess i am just lucky . i tried my baking trophy at 216 and got it on the first try . then after talking with a friend about thr trophy and a gearok mod skill stacking i figured what the i would try the brewing trophy so maybe i could make some tempers . i had 6 seals left from the baking trophy so what the heck i am 200 brewing lets try . i looted all the gems so they didn't cost that much . so he tried for his tailoring and i tried for brewing , he went first no luck failed . i closed my eyes and hit the button and bam i got it at 200 . so if ya feel lucky try it any time . it is only money .

Does it really hurt to at least try? How much time does it take to log out and log back in and give it a shot. Less time then this debate I can assure you that.

                            Bard Superstition

Since we're posting our superstitions, here is mine.

I am a bard, so when I tradeskill, I twist Amp and Cassindra's Elegy to boost my INT. You cannot have the tradeskill container open when you cast a song, so I put my ingredients in the tradeskill container and then close it when Amp fades.

I then cast Amp, wait the 3 seconds for it to hit, cast Elegy, and then immediately open the container. Elegy doesn't finish casting until after I have the container open. If I click Combine right as soon as elegy finishes casting, I almost always have a success on that combine.

I've talked to a few other bards who tradeskill but they don't bother to twist while skilling, so they couldn't confirm or deny my observation. For me, twisting breaks the monotony and Amp lasts longer than the standard 12 seconds for most bard songs.

                              Worked for me

I had my Brewing Skill at 250, Geerlock fermenting device in Primary, C3 on which brought WIS to 255 and I was at level 52. I logged off, waited 5 minutes, then logged back on and combined the ingredients for the trophy and got it on my first attempt! Maybe it was just luck, but it worked!
