The problem I think when this was proposed a while back is that the recipes currently do not know the difference between your spoon and the egg or meat used in the combine going in. And the "result" creates an entirely NEW spoon and the success or just creates the new pan/spoon if you fail.

Also, some recipes do NOT return the tool (old baking trophy). There was also a time, though I do not know if it is still true, you could burn the bread in the bread tin and lose the tin.

Ngreth at one time poked around at the idea of a "toolbelt" and there was a thread here that generated a list of all "tools" for him to get an idea of how many items he was looking at and by an extension, could see how many recipes would be effected.

This is not just a baking issue though and smithing, tailoring, fletching, and to a lesser extent JC would all be able to affected. It would also be a large change to the very basics of tradeskills to separate parts from tools.

Just a thought to be able to use a seldom used existing code structure.
While a valiant idea, that idea is something picked up ONLY by scripts and switches. The tradeskill code has no concept of it, and it is a huge code change, not a small one.

Aldier has the correct idea of how trade skills work. It actually destroys your spoon and gives you back a new one.
