  • Ice Cream for Crow?

What the {flibberty-gibbets} is with the whole ice cream thing?

As far as I can tell, it's 20k for a churn (although I found the parts and got a tinkerer to combine them for me), and then you can spend a small fortune on the relatively rare ice of velious, in order to make snack-length food with microscopic stats on it.

In other words, the entire thing, which was such a big deal for that expansion, is utterly meaningless.

Did I miss something? Is this all for some really wonderful, uber quest I didn't notice? Am I supposed to hand the ice cream to some NPC in the Plane of Fire and get nifty faction? If I put it on my head, do winged monkeys scatter that {drattetd} scarecrow across the mountainside?

Or was it just another really lame SOE dead end?

Sorry 'bout the captain beefheart reference.

I know that when I am having a bad day, what perks me up is a nice bowl of ice cream.

    /snicker

I too was sad to see that it was relative dead end. I own a gourmet ice cream shop IRL and spent alot of plats shortly after it became available to make one of the first ones on Cazic.

I recall there being a request for ideas on ice cream a while back. Perhaps later bigger and better recipes will come out. After all, most ice cream shops started out with just vanilla and chocolate back in the old days!

I've wondered about ice cream for the longest time as well. It seemed like a good idea - if you get rid of the expensive churn and the rare ice of velious.

Might I offer up a suggestion? Replace "ice of velious" with a "chunk of ice". In that form, said ice could be farmed from the golras in Timorous Deep, or dropped from critters in others zones, and even foraged.

I'd suggest permafrost crystals, 'cause I keep getting the two confused anyway.

But what was the premise, in the first place, SOE developer guy? I figure there had to be some specific plan, other than just "hey, people will think it's funny to make Ice Cream", right?

Faction or quests seemed like the obvious answer, but it seems nothing happened along those lines. Nor even making some kinds of ice cream a subcombine to some new uberfood, akin to MTPs, grobb liquidized meat, and halas pies.

I mean, I can see making lemonade, and rootbeer floats, as cute little things people can do for fun, as has happened in the past, but this was a whole new dedicated tradeskill container, a special set of dozens of recipes, et cetera. Not just a fun little whim like cockroach crunchies.

Not everything needs to have a purpose. It's like the cookies in game, they are meaningless as well, until you start to do a little role-playing. The churn is not that expensive to make, and as with anything else, if you feel your being charged too much for it then whip up a tinkerer and make it for yourself

Ice cream is ice cream, it doesn't need to be anything else!

Ice cream didn't get added to a picnic-type stat food because it would melt and drip all over everything. Can you imagine the dry-cleaning bills?

I can assure you that, after 23 years of working in and now owning an ice cream shop, it never really gets fun making ice cream. The RL ice cream "churns" run about 20k also hehe.

It would be more fun if I had svelte high-elf like hotties than the the more zaftig ogresses.

My main makes lemonade, batwing crunchies, et cetera, because it's fun...they cost very little, in time or plat.

But good gods, you have to buy or build your own container to make ice cream, and it's likely to end up costing you tens of thousands of plat by the time you're finished.

That's not something real players are going to do much for "fun".

Sometimes I think there's this huge gap between the uber raiding guild soe developers who decide on content, and the 98% of EQ subscribers who don't belong to raiding guilds or have billions of plat, who need to save time for their real lives.

I suppose I should be relieved that you don't need to go follow a whole series of raids in order to get a no-drop churn or something, the way I'm totally screwed out of several great spells just because I never, ever raid (and rarely group), and therefore have no simple way of even joining a raid, much less doing so in the correct zones over and over until the spell I need drops AND I somehow win the roll for it.

Just be glad that Ice Cream doesn't still require Kelp Salts to make.
