I've noticed a huge increase in Bakers on Drinal. Luckily I've been one of the few people who's been making PoP items (Justice Fruit Pies mostly) so I've been able to charge what I want, it's a little hight, but most items fly off the shelves. There's a huge surplus of HMPs going for from 3-15p. For 3p, they're totally not worth the trouble to make. I've always sold my MTPs for 15p (remember when people gladly payed 150p for them?) but the past week people are cutting down to 10p-grrrrrr. I can't believe some people are selling Holy Cakes for 3p! That's hardly even for profit.

Sometimes I want to scream at these people who price so low it's ridiculous! I enjoy baking, but I also bake for profit. I have a nice steady group of customers, and I keep them happy, and throw in a few extras here and there to keep them coming back. I mean if a Justice Fruit pie sells like crazy at 75p why the heck charge 20p? Hero Sammiches went like hotcakes at 90p so why cheat yourself by asking only 50? Maybe I'm being greedy... I was the only one selling the PoP foods for quite a while, I picked a price I thought they were worth, if people bought them, I kept it. People aren't just paying for a piece of food, they're paying for my time, my effort to acquire the parts, and for my SKILL as a baker!

    sorry to ramble on, lol.

Mystyn I understand your consternation...I to am a GM Baker on Drinal, alas I was guilty of undercutting and flooding while I was skilling on Picnics near Thanksgiving, but now I've matched prices with the median and still sell quite well, but yeah looking back I don't see how I was charging 10pp or less for picnics, but now I make most of my spell cash just making a stack of combines here or there usually 40 picnics from 20 combines...stupid RNG....Working on AA's atm so I can diversify so as not to compete so much in one field

Hey Seb, btw, thanks again for that Vegetable the other day, lol. I was one short for making Jum Jum Salads- got hungry and ate one.

I guess there is one sorta decent thing about a gluttony of bakers, I'm often able to pick up supplies off vendors very cheaply. I've been making so many picnics because I'm finding the Beer cheap, and Woven mandrake for a few silvers off vendors (far cheaper than making it myself). I even found a few stacks of Creamy Fennel Sauce for almost nothing, one day I'll get around to making Halas Pies I guess, I still have a stockpile of Mammoth meat to use up.

What I find hilarious is people selling "minor" baking items for small fortunes. You can tell who the bakers are by the prices. Who would buy Blood Raven parts at 25p each (50p a combine) when you can't sell the final product for more than 10p each. hehe. Or Snake Eggs for 20p really makes me giggle.

          ...or hobgoblin meat for 500p.
          ...or hero parts for 100p.

There are alot of people on Drinal that have teh downs when it comes to selling tradeskill parts.

Hobgoblin meat for 500 makes sense since the suprises sell for 2k each. I just sold a bunch this week (though I had to drop to 1500 to hold off undercutters) when Leviathan got a source of hope stones and needed hobgoblin suprises to get the secret of the planes (which doesn't suck now).

People see that isolated point (hobgoblin meat for 100 sells fast - I buy it all if nothing else) and don't understand why (it's for a quest) and everything gets out of wack (hero parts for 100pp? I laugh).

I started selling the Surpsises for 1500, and they sold fine- and worth it considering the nice reward for the quest. A certain someone on Drinal who I curse everytime I see her sells them for 800p. She undercuts everything so badly. The meats I see for sale from about 450-1500 on Drinal. Found some one day for 250p and snatched them up. Hero Meat at 100p is just insance considering how many you need to make one sammich.

That's actually from folks skilling up quick and dirty on tailoring - I find about three and a half stacks on the alchemey merchants on a very regular basis and that just happens to be the number of stacks I had when I skilled up my own tailoring on mandrake root.

                ...or hobgoblin meat for 500p.
                ...or hero parts for 100p.
The hero parts are going for 35-100p on Xev - still too much seeing as how you need 4 of them just for a chance at 2 sandwhiches that are selling at 50p each.

Hobgoblin meat and the surprises have been trashed on Xev - meat is averaging 100-200 max while the surprises just fell under 300pp each last weekend.
                Cigarskunk!
No more EQ for me till they fix the crash bug.

Perhaps on your server Hobgoblin Surprise sells for that much. On Solusek Ro, the price was holding at 350, although the last time I checked, it may have started to drop. The meat had stayed at 100 for a while, but was starting to drop as well.
Ironically, I have NEVER seen the corresponding drink for the manual quests (although admittedly its been a month or so since I last checked the bazaar).

Lets face it folks-one of the easiest and least expensive tradeskills is baking. Add in the potential for profit and it becomes very desireable for the average joe to take up baking.

Think back to your coldain shawl days-how long did it take you to get to the skill level you needed for it? If you have decent wisdom/intellect, it was merely a day or so (maybe a few hours even) of taking your spit and making fishrolls.

When the cabbage quest recipes came out, I was finishing up the centi toes/meat and just fell in love with the misty thicket picnic recipe-I wanted to make it sooo bad so I began the road of 200+.

So what does this have to do with this thread you say? Well, the tradeskills that are easy and have the potential to make money are always most popular. Baking and brewing are unique in that people will always need food/drink. Thats also what makes it potentially so profitable.

To answer your question: I dont think your server is unique. I think you will find that many servers have more bakers then necessary!

I no longer bake for profit-unless its for guildmates.

However, I would like to point out that if you have access to Halls of Honor, you should make hero sandwiches for profit. Eventually that market will be flooded too but maybe alot slower!

(PS I am on Tunare server)
