  • However, tieing this to a mob that only spawns every 3 to 5 days, is already perma-camped, and is part of an epic, is just plain annoying and disappointing. Adding No Drop to the final product isn't going to stop it either since the sea dragon meat/steaks are still droppable.
The meat can drop from 3 different mobs, and I can guarantee you that one of them is almost certainly not permacamped.

    • And it no longer drops on the "epic only" version of the epic mob.

      • Ngreth have stated before he was ordered to make the stuff rare by using rare drops. Sea dragon meat is one example. Complaining about poor drop rate isn't exactly the praise Ngreth would like to hear for his work in introducing a really great stats food.

Or would you rather he put Nest Dragon meat back in? I have yet to see one in bazaar and no one bit my 25k offer last month when nest dragon meat was speculated as part of meat recipies. Turepta liver, horse meats, and treant heart are all also rare with them averagings 25k to 50k if one shows up on bazaar.

Once the final combine becomes no drop and becomes useless for twinking, the price is likely to go down a bit like BBPP parts did. I remember paying a few thousands plat for the bucket of crabs long ago when I tried the first time. Today the same goes only a few hundreds. With bazaar only route, you can probably make 1 BBPP combine for under 1k on Maelin's overpriced bazaar and a lot less on many other server bazaars. Plus you'd get a few leftover parts to make a few more BBPP's with only a couple extra pies and crab legs.

The mobs that drop the meat is likely perma-camped but I'll bet half of the campers are simply looking to make big money on selling BBC's and will get discouraged when the final combine won't sell anymore. I believe the challenge meat is also going to be no drop as well.

Plus as Ngreth said a few times, there is no "camp" in EQ so the first one to grab the mob gets the kill right. If you can't solo or feel uncomfortable with potional KS'ers around, recruit some friends and hang around in CS or TD for the pop. You may have to wait a few hours to a day to get one...

Actually it's not that hard to get the dragons. One night a week ago I logged on my bard to handle fishing for cobalt cod and foraging when I saw the dragon on track. No one in zone, I did aquick checking to find the mob's general loc, logged my main and used guild hall port to pop me to CS. about 15 min later (plus 3 HOT pots, one dead guildie who tried to help me and died going through Kael, and and 2 dead pets) I was rewarded with sea dragon meat bringing to total of 2 I got since PoR went live. I put a few sea dragon steaks on my trader to raise money for my other tradeskilling and kept the rest for making BBC's in case I failed combine. Any extra I have is likely to go to my guildies who are also interested in making their own BBC's.

        • First off, there can be two definitions of rare drops. A drop off a rare mob, and a rare drop off a non-rare mob. My point was I think the second is preferably. I would much rather fight in a camp killing mobs with my friends, hoping to get the rare drop, than sit alone at a spawn point twiddling my thumbs hoping a mob will spawm while I am there. Maybe I will look more closely and the spawned version of Fay and get some friends together. I forgot how to do that, since epic 1.0 was so long ago.

I think it's cool to see stuff like this in the game. Plenty of people, including myself, here and in other threads, have thanked Ngreth for the work he has done. I don't think I have to preface every post with a thank you, just to be taken seriously.

My point was not just related to this item. It was about the idea of using ultra-rare mobs for things like this. EQ has so many time-sinks already, and it only takes a couple of perma-campers to ruin it for the rest of us who just want ONE so we can use it for ourselves. Not to sell. Not to make a profit. Just for me, and for my tradeskill ego

            • A little hint as to which parts of the recipe will be changed would be great. I currently have everything needed for 1 full Challenge, but am a little hesitant to combine right now because I'm hopeing the changes will allow me to make 2 with marginal additional farming/buying.

                • Now that it is going to be No Drop I may consider the stats a bit more.

So no hope of getting some resists added to the final product?

And does anyone know offhand when the next scheduled patch is? I cannot get to the EQ Live Forums from this location.

That's a very fair change, making those two no drop. I know it was said in the dev talk, but thank you, also, for making it clear that those are the only two things being made no drop. That means I can put the rest of the supplies back on my mule.

Am I missing something? Or are these two comments referring to different mobs?

EDIT: DOH. I misread that. Sorry for the stupid question

                      • the spawned version IS the epic only version. they refer to the same mob. Druid epic triggered Faydedar does not drop the meat.

How about adding No Drop to the Sea Dragon Meat and Steaks? I'm just looking for a way to get rid of the price-gouging perma-campers on the rare mobs.

                          • That would only make matters worse by virtually eliminating yet another source for the meat. People camp this mob for many other reasons besides the meat. What would changing the drop status of the meat do to change that? The proposed changes are perfectly fine. There is no need to do anything else.

                            • Because that would eliminate the NEW campers who are only there for the meat so they can gouge the rest of us. I would hope you see that is what I am talking about.

I still think a rare drop off a more commmon mob is a much better idea than a drop off an rare mob. Would eliminate most of this. It's kinda hard to do that now, with all the lore, etc, that went into the quest. But it's something to keep in mind for the future.

Some of the other items take some effort and time to get, but at least I can go out and do it. I have made most of the items on the list. I still have to go farm some treant hearts and horse meat. But now I don't even think I will bother since it will be next to impossible to ever finish the task w/o access to the dragons. Camp for days alone out in the ocean and fight off KS'ers all for 75 HP/Mana? Nah.

The meat is rare by being from a rare spawn... who drops the meat EVERYTIME and sometimes 2 meat. This item is not going to make or break price gouging it existed before this was needed it will exist after. Your opinion has been noted, as you have posted it 4 times you would rather farm for hours and hours off common mobs for a rare drop instead of hours and hours for a rare mob FINE I like the way this is set up now with the Sea Dragon Meat. What ultimate meat sandwich wouldn't include the meat of a dragon? Ngreth chose Sea to keep over Nest (ever tried camping a Nest Dragon Meat?). Your continued posting of the same thing over and over is not going to get you your way.
