Some other option has to be available for all the hard work bakers go through to reward them. Simply making it no drop will kill the market for this wonderful item. Simply put, all the sub combines to make a nice stat food that only a small community can make and not share among players hurts. And thinking you can't twink a lvl 20 out with this is absurd. I see VT geared lvl 30 tanks from people who where bored.(although very rare like Ngerth said would happen if they made(the food) no drop). I agree, there should be some way to "box" this meal up so it can be traded but allow only lvl 70 players the ability to "open" the box.
What is all the fuss about? So I forgot to pick you up at work...I just gained a level !!! -Favorite last words as I sleep on the couch
If there is a level 70 restriction placed on a tradable version, make sure that ther is an exception for the baker who made the dish.
Why in the world shoud the 300 skilled baker, whether level 69 or level 30, who creates the dish not be able to enjoy the fruits of his efforts?????????
Quite frankly, I am against the level restriction or no-drop restriction.
I am not a member of a raiding/uber guild, and I feel that the requests to make the dish level 70 restricted is simply an attempt by those types of guilds to eliminate the competition for the mobs that drop the components.
I feel the only real solution would be to make the foods and drinks provide effects by being conumed (like potions), not by being in the first slot, which allows for extended effects by cramming. That would increase the market for tradeskillers to make these foods/drinks. Of course, for foods like this one, you would need to have the drop rates for the components raised to make up for the fact that the consumables are actualy consumed.....
Is it really woth 100Kpp or more for this meal if it is sure to be gone after a few of HOURS of play. I don't think so.
MTPs go for about 5pp each, this dish should be expensive, but it should be somewhat available at a rate that supports a high but not totally outrageous price balanced by the fact that it must be consumed to see the effects.
But then what would the foragers do with all those roots, berries and other consumables that they gather????? Maybe some of the high end tradeskilled goods should require lots of those things too.

Another option would be to add a "Recommended skill of 250 Baking" to it. This way if you are not a Expert Baker you can not get the full stats.
Ngreth has stated that adding new coding is a major issue, but taking exisiting coding and adjusting it to work on new things is not an issue. On Luclin the Helm of the Vampyric Traitor drops which has recommended skill of 30 defense so a pressident(sp?) has been set for this.

You can't have ANY type of level requirement for a FOOD ITEM because it is NOT EQUIPPED.
The code that is in place makes it so you can set a rec. level or req. level for items when they're equipped, and that the item displays what the equipped stats would be on the item based on your level.
Food, since it isn't equipped, will not have its stats affected by any type of level restriction or skill restriction as the code is right now.
As for my input to the thread: make it no-drop, increase the recipe yield or the availability of some of the items, and be done with it. All this talk of level restrictions are not related to the in-game recipe (I combine my bread meat and cheese and get a sammich in a bag that a younger person can't open? Wha?)
If a level 1 baker can get the subcombines, he can gain 100% of the benefits of the sandwich. He just can't give it to someone else. That makes sense, and is easy to do from Ngreth's position.
I am fine with making it no trade, in fact that prolly the best thing. But, considering how difficult it is to get the materials I would like to see the final combine made NO FAIL - just bites to loose at those materials after all that work - and make it restricted skill like 275 or something.
Now that most all the skills have something super-duper, how about a companion recipie for brewing ??
There needs to be something done to balance out the loss of being able to sell the finished item. It's a great item, and it would have finally meant that Bakers would have a solid item that would generate a fair amount of revenue (after the gouging is done). Baking has been looking for a decent item to make money off of, but by itself, it's really not worth the effort to make, though, like BPP people, including myself, will probably make some anyway.
I would like to see it made No Drop as well, assuming that the next patch is a little ways away. I can sell a few of these and finance my tinkering and smithing fetishes.
Simply put: you have a stats food in top slot to gain benefit from it but you make the toon eat junk food manually to make the toon "full" and not eat the stat food. There is even a way to make it auto force feeding by making a junk food in the lower inventory slot, making it a clicky to a hotbar, and tying that hot bar key to direction key.
So if I have one of these mammoth sandwiches in my top slot bag and manually eat mtp I get the benefit of the sandwich instead of the mtp without actually eating it? Or does it need to be in an open inventory slot?
It can be anywhere as long as the stats you want is listed higher in order of inventory. And no it does not need to be in open inventory, bags will work fine unless you want to do auto forced eating trick I mentioned earlier it does need to be open inventory.
I don't mind running around farming, foraging, killing, etc for things. However, tieing this to a mob that only spawns every 3 to 5 days, is already perma-camped, and is part of an epic, is just plain annoying and disappointing. Adding No Drop to the final product isn't going to stop it either since the sea dragon meat/steaks are still droppable.
If they are going to add the No Drop tag, maybe they will consider changing this ingredient to some other mobS that we can at least hunt. I know I would much rather sit in a group of friends killing for hours and hours with the thought that it will eventually drop than sit out in the middle of the ocean fighting to either KS or be KS'd for one rare mob.

I don't think this item was something intended for everyone to have. It was created mostly for the fun of solving the combine. If you are asking for more mobs to drop the sea dragon meat or for the last combine to be no-fail I think you are missing the point. I think the sandwich should remain a gee-whiz, that's cool item rather than something everyone feels they need to have to stay caught up.
Making it no-drop is a good plan. If you want to make cash off it, sell the sub-combines.
