  • Foraging Machette

So I complete the quest for the Foraging Machette (for those not familiar with the quest it's on Allakhazam under "Rare Plants"). It's a 1H Slash that has a 10% Foraging Modifier on it for us obsessive foragers. Off I go to PoJ with visions of backpacks full of Justice Fruit. First forage - water. Ok, well maybe I need to warm-up a bit here. Second forage - water. Third, fourth, fifth - water. Sixth forage - a COCKROACH. By the time all was said and done I had foraged 10 waters, 5 bread crumbs, 3 cockroaches and 2 Justice Fruit.

Am I doing something wrong here? I was under the impression that with my skill cap of 200 PLUS the modifier I would be getting phat forage. Does someone need to bless this weapon? Does anyone know?

I usually just don't bother with the machette anymore, first hour or so of each trip I did up there only yielded me about 5 fruit and about 3 times as many of the other stuff. Without the machette, I noticed that I got fruit almost the same rate, with one or two more per hour.

The modifier improves your chance of getting something. It doesn't change your chances of getting super cool zone specific thing rather than worms.

Well seeing as how you get something everytime you forage at 200, there appears to be no point in the machete.

I think the machete is mostly useful to people who's foraging is not at 200 yet. Though it did seem for a while that it upped the chances of getting a rare forage, they either changed it or I just had a run of good luck.

I never realized that 200 in foraging equates to always get something, thats good to know !

I got mine and I am around 140ish in foraging, so with the above fact, yeah its a great boost to those of us not up to 200 yet..

I believe the machete is intended for race-class combinations with a lower forage cap than for those of us wich can reach to 200. In my halfling-druid case, for example (200 forage), it would be kinda useless.
On the other side, its kinda reasonable the way it works, it would not make much sense to find non-food items with higher skill, when itīs a skill thought to help find food in the wilderness (ainīt it funny to forage a mushroom in the nexus? =) ).
