  • Baking Path above 252?

OK, I see everyone saying "picnics all the way", but is that really the only good path? Up to 252 there were many skill paths, including one that people didn't seem to realize: you can do beer-batter (and similar GoD recipes), with almost no trouble obtaining the ingredients.

Picnics, on the other hand, are a pain to make, even compared to beer battered recipes, because of the number of expensive/foraged things and combines.

And, because everyone's using them to get to 300, they're being sold in bazaar for 3pp, so they become a black hole for platinum, whereas the beer battered stuff can still sell for over 10pp if you're careful.

    Isn't there SOME other way?

I suggest you actually try some picnics before you dismiss them. Due to the high yields on subcombines, there's very little expense or time involved. Buy a stack of brownie parts, hit Rivervale for some jumjum and everything else is available in PoK.

I did 250-300 on picnics in one sitting. Only took about 3-4 hours and cost very little.

While there are other options, particularly in GoD baking, these tend to involve a lot of clicking themselves, and with a much lower yield than the picnics. I did a combination of different recipes over 252, but in the end I settled down to finish off with picnics. It really is such a simple route despite the combines... and eventually you can sell them all off in the bazaar... eventually.

I personally never made a single picnic on my path up to 300 Baking on my Paladin.

Lots of PoP baking & lots of Omelet Supremes... Coarse Salts weren't often plentiful or cheap, but my in-game cash-flow is almost always pretty strong.

even at 3pp, you are still making a profit on picnics, but there are other options, no says you HAVE to do picnics. check out the quick Trivial list and see what appeals to you.

Personally, I did a lot of PoP combines (Jord meat, Vann Toes, Mephit meat, Hero parts, etc...), some GoD combines too, and then finished off with picnics.

MTPs rock. All store bought except fruit & brownie parts and each fruit subcombines to make 72 sandwiches and each Brownie part enough to make 200 cake slices. All the main subcombines make enough for at least 10 final combine attempts. over 2 nights and 1000ish final combines, i went 282-300. And to top it all off, you can actually sell these at a profit (or WTT MTP stack for a good virtue (never failed to get a reply in seconds, unlike for pp donations)).

I haven't done picnics yet, I'm at like 270 something right now and will be doing planar fruit pies to 282 and then probably karana's heartfruit salads after that. Up until the 260ish range I did GoD baking (soufles mostly).

But then, I have two foragers so I have a lot of options there.

The jumjum is no drop, right?

And I'm a necromancer. Aside from having come back to Rivervale to kill hobbit guards in revenge for all the times they killed me for no good reason at all.

The thing is that Beer-Battered Cragbeast/Tuna recipes all cost nearly nothing, and sell for a lot. If I can't safely get Jumjum, then I'm stuck spending huge amounts of plat for hero meat, planar fruit, et cetera, or spending dozens of hours hunting for the drops...and I can't play that much, only an hour or two per day.

Jumjum is droppable. It's sold in Rivervale and Shadowhaven. I know that the MTPs sound like a lot of work, but I went from 250-300 in just about 3 hours (subcombines and purchases included in that time.) You just need to do a bit of preparation offline. Plan what you are going to do. Then, when you get online, clear as much inventory space as you can and go buy enough stuff for 100 combines (there's a shopping list here.) Head to the guild hall if you are a guildmember with DoN. That's the best place to do it, as you will have to switch tradeskill containers a few times.

                      1200 misty thicket picnic combines?
Going by the numbers here which iirc are correct.

You need a stack of fruit.
                      You need 12 brownie parts.

For those high lvl, you can hunt in Lfay for brownie parts and pick up 1-3 or 4 every spawn.
For those not so high lvl, you can go to steamfont and murder the area in the Northeast, waiting for low lvl brownies to spawn up there with the other newbie mobs.

The fruit you do have to buy.. but ive never seen fruit in shorty supply /shrug.

It takes up a huge amount of bag space to do 100 MTP combines yes... but its almost all vendor purchased/easily attainable.

Last 200 MTPs i made, I got the parts in less than 20min including runtime and paid like 2pp for each fruit in bazaar. I had left over vegetables, but thats beside the point... as you can buy then from vendor now(components at least).

/shrug.. but yeah theres other ways to 300... but I still see MTPs as the most cost effective.. I cant see how anything farmed from GoD can be more cost effective than MTPs.

I tend to forget that they produce so many. In fact, I had no idea we were talking a 100:1 ratio in this case.

Yeah, but I look at the talk and almost nobody seemed to realize that GoD cragbeast/tuna is one of the easiest, cheapest, most profitable, and maybe even most fun ways to 252, so I can't help but wondering if there's also a way beyond 252.

I mean, you just fish, or forage in a zone where almost 100% of what you get is cragbeast/hynid meat. Everything else is vendor-bought right there in Abysmal Sea, except eggs, which are as cheap as any common tradeskill ingredient in the bazaar (especially since you can make 15 egg batters from a single egg, or something like that).

Heck, you can just do tuna/crab and bat wings for a long time, if you want.

I do suppose I'm gonna have to do picnics...it doesn't sound THAT bad, if the ratio's really 100:1, but I wish there were something else that didn't require a small fortune in bazaar or a lot of farming.

Small fortune? I think it cost me about 100pp in bazaar bought stuff to do 250-300.

Reselling the finished picnics in bazaar even for as low as 3pp is in fact making a profit.

If you want to skill up to 300 in the fastest time, clear our 6 bags of inventory space, and you will do it on one long session. Yes, it seems painful, due to the subcombines, but with the new UI, it really isn't. And its seriously cheap.

It only becomes a royal pain if you cannot completely clear 6 bags, becuase then you end up taking 3 times as long moving inventory around. Don't even think about trying to make a profit though. If you try saving the final product for sale, then you will once again lose time moving inventory around. I just let mine drop to the ground.

I only wish I'd started on MTP's earlier, becuase I had a similar loathing for all the submcombines, and wasted endless time trawling for easier combines such as boar chops, planar fruit pies, and the GoD food. I would have been much quicker if I'd bitten the bullet at 250 rather than 282.
