  • Chef Chowderly quest

OK, I went to hail Chef Chowdely today. Instead of his usual "buzz off" message, he actually responded!

    You say, 'Hail, Chef Chowderly'
Chef Chowderly says 'Sorry, friend. I do not mean to be rude, but I am very busy right now cooking a [meal].'
    You say, 'What meal?'
Chef Chowderly says 'I must cook for a large portion of the people living here on the ship. Seems they just cannot get enough of my cooking. I am a master at making [tasty tuna dishes] after all.'
You say, 'What tasty tuna dishes?'
Chef Chowderly says 'Are you interested in the culinary arts? If you are, then you must have heard of some of my most famous dishes such as my Seafarer's Tuna-Corn Chowder. You haven't heard of that you say? Hrmph. If you are interested in perhaps learning my award winning recipes, I could use a good assistant. Throgar over there is not much help!' Chef Chowderly gives a cold glance to his assistant Throgar who is standing in a small pile of broken dishes. 'I swear he drops more dishes than he cleans! Anyway, I might have time to teach you some recipes if you [can help] me with something and you have some knowledge of cooking.'
You say, 'I can help you'
Chef Chowderly says 'First of all I need some more dishes.' Chef Chowderly glances over at Throgar again, who drops a glass on the ground, shattering it into tiny pieces. 'Sigh. I think I will need a lot of dishes. If you can, take this note to my friend Rellix in Rivervale. He owes me a favor and should be able to give you some dishes. Return them to me when you get them.''
    He hands you a:

    Note to Rellix

Finding Rellix was a challenge, given that he's not on Find and I've never played a halfling. Still, after some running around, I found him near Byl Babbinsbort (who is on Find). Hailing got no response, so I handed him the note.

Rellix says 'A note from Chef Chowderly, eh? I haven't heard from him in some time. Hope he is doing well.' Rellix reads the note. 'I do happen to have some spare dishes. Here, take them.''
    You gain experience!!
    He hands you a:

    Case of Dishes
    WT: 2.0 Size: MEDIUM
    Class: ALL
    Race: ALL

So, back to Abysmal we go.

I did this last night and logged and screenshotted everything.

I am at work right now but I will put screenshots up later.

He gives you a Tuna recipe. It is LORE and NODROP.

The quest seems repeatable so gonna see if he gives you another recipe for doing it again.

He wanted me to make a spicy tuna salad sandwich. Once I made that I handed it and the recipie back to him and he asked me to make pan seared orange tuna. I'll try that later.

If nothing else this quest looks like an excuss to make a bunch of weird stuff.

So, back to Abysmal we go. Hand Chowderly the dishes and he says:

Chef Chowderly says 'Thanks much. These should last at least a day or so. Take this recipe for my world famous Spicy Tuna Salad Sandwich and see what you can do with it. Once you make one, hand it to me along with the recipe I just gave to you. Now, I don't let just anyone borrow recipes, so please pay attention and do your best.'

I to am doing the Chef Chowderly quest and have made it pretty far. As of now i have come to a stopping point. The recipe he gave me is for

            Spicy Tuna Sunrise Steak
            In a oven

            4 lb. Saltwater Tuna
            Vegetables
1 Small Bottle of Soy Sauce
            Ground Garlic
            1 Celestial Essence
            Spices
            Webbed Tail-fin
            Non-Stick Frying Pan

I know where to get all the ingrediants except the Small Bottle of Soy Sauce.

Anyone have any suggestions on where or what i could try to make this please?

Once you make the sandwich, hand it to him along with the recipe he gave you.

Chef Chowderly scarfs down the dish you created. 'Nicely done! I can tell it was prepared with great care! Take this recipe for Pan-Seared Orange Tuna. It is a personal favorite of mine. Once you make this dish, hand it to me along with the recipe I just gave to you.' Chef Chowderly returns to his busy pace of cooking.

Getting the Stewing pot will take some doing; you can only get it from the Vah Shir rogue newbie armor quests...

Yeah...and it's NO DROP...and, as far as I can tell, the part where you get it can't be MQed. So, I guess this quest is for rogues only beyond the first part. On a side note...it was bad enough making me run to CS to pick up the garnish and the algae spices...now I have to go back for seaweed vinegar? I almost got a stack of everything Bloogy sold, just in case...wish I had.

Edit: Ok...new thought. The result from the first part wasn't NO TRADE...so I'm gonna guess that a rogue could make the 2nd recipe for you and give it to you to turn in. Still...it's a pain.

It so happens that I do have a Vah Shir rogue. I'd been ignoring the newbie quests since the rewards (not to mention the insane, inane farming of rare-drop quest bits) don't appeal to me that much. I'll get her back to Shar Vahl and see if I can do these quests and get the pot.

According to Lucy, the result is indeed tradable, so you can get someone else to make it for you.

Well, my rogue is now working on the third quest, but those owlbear cubs seem to be both rare and stingy with their fat. We'll see if I can get any further with this.

At the same part on my newly-created rogue. :\

Having problems 1) finding owlbear cubs (apparently, 4 spawns MAX if owlbears control North and East.) and 2) getting the fatty owlbear meat. I have 1/6 so far...after 3 hours camping them.

I hope that there is a decent reward from the chef. If not, they AT LEAST need to change this recipe to require a normal pot, instead.

Did you try the recipe with the normal pot before starting the quest? (I assume so, just checking!)

No, I didn't, because the recipes you are given are typed out in such a way that the exact item names (caps and all) are given. I assumed that since it specifies "Large Stewing Pot", and since such an item exists and the only person that has claimed to be past that part was a rogue, that it wanted that specific item. You are right though...I should have tried a normal pot...just in case. I had forgotten how much of a pain the Vah Shir quests were (I've done them all so that my BST could have the officer's cloak...though all of the other chars have since been deleted.)

Just a head's up to people working on this quest. The large stewing pot issue has been brought to Absor's attention and he mentioned that he'd look into it. The actual post is in the thread in general about this recent patch.
