Ice of Velious has always struck me as being one of those items the devs put on a loot table to make players go "wha?" I've had it drop off a spider in North Karana and off Netherbians in Netherbian Lair. In both cases I stopped to ponder the possible reasons why those mobs would have Ice of Velious but then my head started to hurt and I went back to farming.
The reasoning is actually pretty simple - like all research components, it drops from mobs you're likely to be killing for experience when you need to research the spell it's for.

Ok I am working hard to get my new tinker to 250 (at 207 so far) so I can make my Ice Cream Turner. I already have the hide and I am going to work on the tentacles later. At first I just wanted to make ice cream but now that Icecream shakes are a miraculous drink and adds to resist stats just makes me want to make it even more. Plus if the Devs give us a little more play in the recpie when it comes to salt and ice it would sell well in the bazaar just because it is novel and it lasts a long time.

I wondering if anyone have tried other combinations with the icecreams. For example has anyone tried making a Icecream Sunday or mabey a hotfudge sunday to me I think a Sunday of some shape or form would have to be a Miraculous meal or at least a Banquet. I wonder if there is some kind of fruit out in EQ that is kind of like a Banana mabey we could make a Banana Split . In real life I love icecream sandwhiches I wonder if there is a recpie for that As far as Ice Cream Sundays go I think we would need to make some kind of chocolate syrup and we can always top it off with a marr cherrie. Anyone have some ideas on how we could make this?

I had a guildmate try Dark Chocolate Creme, Winter Chocolate, White Chocolate. None of them combined. Too bad she's a gnome and can't forage those nuts in the Muramite Proving Grounds. I have to thank her for selling me an ice cream churn for 3k for parts and a stack of mint, brownies, and cherries. Thanks, Tickles Willworkforcookies! Sorry you failed your first attempt for me.

We didn't think to make the ice cream first, and then try to combine it with Dark Chocolate Creme and a Marr Cherry. (And we TRIED to use the coffee and vanilla beans from the Abysmal Sea tea quest. Doesn't work.)

I refuse to pay 1k for a stack of Ice of Velious for a treat that is at least 100x more expensive than a Misty Thicket Picnic.

I doubt this will work, but has anyone tried to combine 10 different ice creams into one of those ice cream mountains they sell at the ice cream parlors? And she was wondering about ice cream sandwiches. Ice cream didn't combine with cookies.

I also tried a bunch of other fruits, berries, vegetables, roots, meats, tea leaves, morning dew, and just about everything else I foraged over the years.

I'm disappointed, but hopefully we'll see sundaes, banana splits, neapolitan ice cream sandwiches, and ice cream mountains in the next patch. FEEDBACK!

        --May fortune favor you.

And I don't even know of anyone who has a churn here yet.

You are missing an open "[" and a "/" (no quote marks) and so it should like like this:

Ice Cream -- observations, impressions, discussion

Hello all... frequest visitor first time poster. I don't know if this helps anyone at all, but I was able to farm 3 Ice of Velious in about 45 minutes off the Wooley Mammoths and the Wooley Mammoth Calves in Everfrost. I was farming Mammoth meat for the Halas Pies and was just looting these because I never saw them before. After I looked them up on Alla, I decided to keep them. Going to see if I can get more next time I go farming.

Gelidran hides, kelp salts, tentacles, and ice

The first Icy Gelidran Hide I saw on Quellious in the Bazaar, they were asking for 25k (rumor has it the price was higher before I checked.) I've bought them for 3l, 5k, and (you'll hate me, I'm sure) Monday morning I found 2 for sale for 60p each in the bazaar. By that time I had my own churn, and was helping someone else make hers. The person I was helping paid 75k for it, almost -- nearly 15k for materials and such, and then a 50k bonus for our help. (I had a friend do the tinkering, her skill is 252, and she hasn't failed yet in 3 churn creations, and she hasn't failed on a piston yet either. *knocks on wood*) As far as I know, my trader was the first to sell ice cream in the bazaar on our server. Actually, the first to make it available for sale -- I've sold 2 bowls of chocolate ice cream so far (before I earned that bonus, so I was still charging 250p per serving) and that was in PoK, not in the bazaar.

The tentacles started around 25k also, and someone was asking 15k still today, but generally they are down around 7k or a little less now. I managed to get all that I've used for 3k or less each, most of them for 1k each. About hlalf came from taking my frightened little lvl 37 chanter to Novle's Causeway and advertising that I wanted to buy the tentacles for 1k. I'd carefully pick my way through the zone to buy from people where they were fighting, which was kinda scary with everything glowing bright red when conned. Especially the times that invis started to drop and I had to run up the hillside to stay clear of mobs while I re-cast invis.

One of the sellers didn't want cash (too heavy for 3k) so he sold me 3 tentacles for 10 essence emeralds -- easy to carry, and he can easily get at least 300p each, maybe more. I also carry a stack of blue diamonds now, since I can sell them to an NPC for 238p each, and I can usually get people to take a BD instead of 250-300p. My tinker friend is also a tailor with a skill over 200, and she has always succeeded on the boot gaskets so far. I did the first 7 attempts myself (she offered after I complained that I failed 3 of 7 attempts, but my skill was still a little under 170 at the time). I failed twice on 5 attempts yesterday -- I should have just waited until she was on again. ) I paid 2.5k each for that batch of tentacles.

Kelps salts -- don't get me started on those. I agree, let's deluge them with /feedback about that one. Let us have an alternative recipe, and leave the poor tortoises alone. My experience is right up there with most of what's reported here -- my 37 chanter got 7 in 2.5 hours of hunting them. My 51 druid on Tholuxe server kills 7-8 at a time by pulling them all then casting Earthquake, but that just means he has to wait for them to spawn again.

Ice of Velious -- on Quellious I was working to get my funds up past 4k for a few weeks before OoW came out, so I was in the bazaar a lot. As soon as I found out Ice of Velious was in the recipe, i started buying it whenever it was about 15p or less. I had 4 stacks ready to go when I got my churn made, and half of that is gone -- of course, I traded a stack to a friend who has 2 stacks of mint but no ice, so next time I have the salts I can finally make chocolate mint. I have never hunted to get that drop before, so if ANYONE has suggestions for a reliable place/mob to hunt for it, I'd love to hear about it. If I find such a thing, I'll post it here (after I get a couple of packs full).

[Edit: I failed to notice there were 2 pages in this thread, so I didn't see the previous post, with the mammoth suggestion, until after this was written. Thanx for that tip!]

I love that they added ice cream. And with so many items tagged as tradeskillable that we don't have recipes for, I think we're going to find lots of new recipes that just haven't been discovered yet. (I do hope they let us tokenize the churns though, so it's easier to sell them.)

I just had an idea -- for those of us with no characters high enough to go to Riftseeker's, /ooc in PoK to find someone who's about to go there, and persuade them to advertise for you that you want the gelidran hides. You may get them cheaper that way, and you won't have to wait for someone to put them up in the bazaar.

This post is long enough now, so I'll end it. I'm sure I'll have more to add in the next few days. I'm about to try to get the churn with my 51 druid on Tholuxe Paells next, so watch for me there.

I purchased a "Icy Gelidran Hide" in the bazaar the other day fro 100pp. I would suggest getting this item now before it is widely known and the tradeskill tag is applied. My tinkering is only 216 atm so I am waiting until at least 230 + geerlok before I get the tentacles and try the combine.

BTW, I agree about what has been said about "Ice of Velious". This items should probably be a ground spawn and/or forage in some zones. For example, Everfrost would be a perfrect place to do this.

My gnome was recently running through Shadow Haven to purchase some Geerlok components from Krizle Geerlok. He did a little merchant mining on the way and found four Ice of Velious, which makes me think that it may be a fairly common drop in the Paludal Caverns or Echo Caverns.

He paid 5,000 plats for an Icy Gelidran Hide and made an ice cream churn. My halfling is amusing himself by supplying his group with ice cream and chocolate shakes... but I must repeat that hunting for the Kelp Salts is STILL A MAJOR PITA! (And why do shakes require another Ice of Velious?!?! )

                          Hmm...

I picked up 3 Icy Gelidran Hides off an NPC merchant for cheap (can't remember the price anymore).

I've never paid more than 1k for Severed Feran Tentacles, and I got 3 for 275p each one time.

Now I've got 6 Tentacles... just need to get someone to sew them up and then pass them over to my Tinkerer friend.

                              You need:

1 Icy Gelidran Hide (drops in the Riftseekers zone, must be level 69+ to zone in).

3 Severed Feran Tentacles (drop in Noble's Causeway... might drop in other zones, but I haven't heard any reports of this).

1 Folded Sheet of Enchanted Steel (I think this is still limited, in that only Humans can do this combine and only at the Qeynos Cultural Forge).

All the other parts are vendor-purchased.

                                Salt idea

mmm.. maybe they could do salts they way they do eggs for clump of dough yields? Different salts (i.e. Kelp, Bag, etc) would effect the yield of ice cream produce. Seems fair enough, give different ways for a recipe to be produced while giving people options on how much trouble they want go through. Since Kelp is so hard to get, change the yield for it 2 or 3 times as great. Bag of Sea Salt is fairly easy to get, so set it as the current yield.

Of course, while this seems equitable have no idea how hard implementation would be.
                                Dragons.. No problem.
