  • Frustrated and looking for advice

After finally hitting 250 in Brewing a couple of weeks ago I decided to cap off Baking while I was still in my Tradeskilling mood. I left it at 192 awhile back and 200 just looks better, ya know?

So here I am, a 34 DE Necro with 235 INT, and a 192 Baking skill. I figured Candied Cockroaches would be good since the trivial is 202, just 10 points above my skill and 2 points more than I need.
300 combines down and not a single skill up.
I can't even look at the graphic for them anymore! I know it's just a bad string of luck with the RNG, but I need to take a different approach.

Can someone please help me out by advising me on a different recipe (or two) to get those last 8 points? I just bought the GoD expansion earlier today if that helps any.

    Thank you.

Storm Salmon Fillet looks really good if you can get to PoS to fish

I did over 400 combines to break from 200-201 on my baker. You just gotta keep at it. at least hte roaches aren't exactly a huge plat sink compared to some methods.

I liked ohabah truffles. After tons and tons of pixie powdered cinni sticks with no skillups I hit 200 in no time on those. Plus they're my top choice for force feed food as they have a high food value and a small size. I was able to pick up all the mushrooms I needed in bazaar iirc.

I found some GoD meats on a PoK vendor (about a stack of it). Rendered that down to single portions and made a bunch of casseroles. You'll need vegetables, of course, but if you create a foraging alt as your bazaar bot, you can stockpile these.

As suggested, Storm Salmon Fillets took away a small portion of the hatred I have for raising the "last" few points of any tradeskill. I simply would stock up on bait and Jug of Sauces and head to PoS with my Fisherman's Companion. You can sit down and fish and Bake at the same time. Very good tip indeed.

If you choose to switch to Gates recipes, be aware you can go to 216 (Beer-braised Tuna Cakes) without needing any eggs or vegetables. More importantly, there are a lot of recipes that have trivials very close to 192 that will give greater success and hence greater chance of skillups. Unless your fishing skill is Abysmal (ooh, a pun), it doesn't take long to get stacks of tuna/crab meat (remember to take your mixing bowl).

I was in the same boat, and hit 200 by making MTPs. The picnic is a lot of work, but it seems the increased difficulty helped with skillups.

dont you need to buy the taanan AA to move another skill past 200? if you are only 34, then you are stuck until you hit 50 (or is it 51...) to buy the aa ability.

It's true that I can't get a second tradeskill over 200 until I start earning those AA's. But I have a personal goal of getting all of them to 200 prior to that. At 34 I have a long way to go before those AA's become something to think about.

I just hate having something that's almost completed. Those 8 points are like a hangnail in a way, something that's minor but that you really want to take care of.

Plus I love the whole tradeskill aspect of the game. I think I'll download Zarrana's Smithing guide and try DE Cultural smithing next. Caster wearable armor!

                      GoD fishing

Obadah Truffles are a good combine, but if you can't find the truffles, fishing at the Wayfarer camp in Natimbi will provide you with a metric ton of tuna/crab in short order. There are several good recipes that are easy and everything but the meat is buyable, like Beer-battered Tuna Rolls.

Aamdor made a good point about GoD Baking. If your Fishing skill is pretty high you will have no problem getting to 200. I have a skill of 200 and was only there for half and hour, caught 2-6 of each weighted fish and crab, a variety. I didn't realize I actually had so much, when they break down to "Saltwater Crab" you get as many as the weight, it was ridiculous and my bags were full before I knew what I was doing. I actually had to sell all my bait and use what I had. It was a welcome change and I was pleasantly surprised.

Try to weave your exping into tradeskill gathering. It will make things a lot nicer and easier. 34th level is a bit low to go for 6 @ 200 and one at 250.

One place appropriate for your level is The Overthere. Killing the cactus looking mobs drops cursed clover of viesar. This is the dye component we DEs need to make some of our cultural robes for tailoring. That is just one example. Figure out what you need for components by perusing this site then weave that into exping.

                          Good luck

Not many people know this, but there's a troll in the tunnels (near Askr) that sells bait there, so as long as you have money never have to zone out for more bait!
