  • Baking 192+

Slaved away in front of a hot stove for several hour yesterday and have about completed my final baking run. I've also got enough patty melts to feed all the starving children in Africa, Asia, India and anywhere else there are starving children that would love to have my brussel sprouts.

So, looking about in desperation for a recipe which wouldn't result in my committing suicide before I GM'd, I noticed that the lotus pies seemed like they had some reasonably simple ingredients - I see the sap all over the place on the merchants although I haven't price checked the allspice, this looks like a pretty reasonable way to supplement my climb to GM status. They're also one of the few baked goods in the bazaar that still go for 50+ plat.

So what's the incredibly hard or expensive part of this recipe that I've missed?

Getting the lotus parts in skill up quantities is going to be the tricky part. To say you see it all over vendors is one thing, but with each lotus part yeilding 1 skill up attempt, you're talking about a lot of lotus.

Whereas HMP will net 30 skill up attempts for 8 farmed parts (3 mammoth, 3 wolf, 2 basalik eggs), a considerably better ratio that 1:1 of lotus pies.

I imagine its the sap thats the hangup on this one. Looks like one mob drops it. The Deep Cavern Lotus in FG. I dont know how plentiful this spawn is, or how tough either.

Halas 10 pound meat pies (odd that this used the term "pound" rather than the "stone" weight like the rest of the game...) trivial at 226, and the ingredients are readily available. They also sell well, at least on my server @ 5pp each. At 200 Baking, usually get 38/40 combine rate, yeilding 228 pies per run. Selling them at 5pp each returns 1140pp. I figure it costs about 100pp for the ingredients, maybe 140 on a bad day, and I sell out in a week. So thats "making" 1000pp a week (not that much now...) by a 40 attempt skill run.

      3 hangups on this one.
Mammoth Meat- go to Everfrost and auction to buy Mammoth Meat @ 20pp per stack. Remember that 20 mammoth meat is enough for 200 HTP attempts.
Wolf Meat- go to NK/EK and vendor dive. You'll have more than you'll ever need. And like Mammoth, 20 Wolf Meat = 200 Filets...
Eggs- I like to use Wurm Eggs for the Dough, keeps flour and milk cost down, and saves space, yeilding 14 dough per 1 egg, 1 flour and 1 milk. I usually can find the wurm eggs on Bazaar characters for 5pp each. Its well worth it. 30 Wurm eggs = ~ 420 Clumps of dough.

The big problem with the HTP's is the number of sub combines.

Edit: Another down side is that the HTP has 7 Ingredients and a pie tin, so you MUST be in a city to use an oven. The Lotus pies can be done in a spit, in the field. You might want to check into Oahaba Truffles (sp), depending on how hard it would be to get yer hands on some brown algae. They triv at 202, and can be done in the field.... though the mushrooms are forrage items

If you can get the ingredients for Lotus Pie, I say go for it...

I have only found sticky lotus sap on one merchant (and bought it quickly) and then failed on the final combine - so I didn't even get a pie for my trouble. But, if they are plentiful on your server, buy them up and bake away...

Which brings me to.... Are you penalized for doing skill ups a few at a time as opposed to say doing 30 at a time? I can get griffon meat and plant shoots a few at a time - is it ok to bake them up as I get them, or should I wait until I have a few stacks? I always have my spit on me, and KEI when I'm fighting the griffons - and I also always get KEI when I am doing a big session of skill ups, so my INT is always the same (about 227).

Depends on how you look at it.

You have a better chance at getting a single skill up if you make 30 attempts instead of just one. This can be misleading though, because you could consider the 30 skillup-session as 30 single sessions.

On the other hand, if you make 30 skillup attempts over the space of 3 hours that would be the same chance of getting a single skillup as if you did them in 10 minutes.

So, ummm, no. I don't think so. What was the question? :?

If you have access to a forager or have friends that can forage and spend any time in luclin get them to save mushrooms. I went 191 - 202 on Truffles (Ohabah Truffles I think is exact name). It is much easier sitting around foraging mushrooms than trying to make those darn pies. Mushrooms can be foraged anywhere on luclin, I had most of my luck in Shadowhaven (I was botting 2 foragers simultaneously and managed 40 mushrooms in around 1.5 hours). I hate HMP, luckily I recently hit 226 and won't touch them again unless needed bya friend / guildie. Trust me, safe your wrist for later and use truffles from 191-202.

i'm doing the HMPs now, be aware that 1 combine of cream, yeilds 8 creams. Then when ya add the fennel it yeilds 6.

so 2 milks will produce enough creamy fennel sauce to cream 48 fillets.

i however didn't bother to look at the yield first, i was thinking i'd need 1 cream combine per fillet, so i bought a crap load of milk.

Deep Cavern Lotus in Fungus Grove is indeed the source of the lotus parts you need for the pie.

However, the mob is static spawn, 4-6 of them scattered throught the cavern which is 51+, summons, roots, and casts Ice Commet. Pretty painful little plant to harvest.

I'm currently doing Obah Truffles. Mushrooms seem to be easier to get than cinnamon sticks, and I never want to see another Pixie - ever.

Awwww, what's wrong with Pixies? They are so cute with their little wings, in their little 1980's jazzercise outfits. Besides... they make the best noises when you hit them and when they die.

I did over 10 stacks of cinnamon sticks to pixie powered cinnastix. That's over 30 stacks of pixie dust. I can't take it anymore.

It was duty, I tell you... someone had to punish them for the 1980's jazzercise outfits.

I'd have to recommend the truffles too. The mushrooms are foraged, but I always find someone selling them at the bazaar for 1pp or less, so it's easy enough to buy a few stacks. They also need brown algae, but I found that at the bazaar too for fairly cheap. Probably cost me about the same as if I bought them myself after I paid for the port.

To the best of my experience, your success chance isn't cumulative - you've got the same % chance that the RNG will give you a skill up on any individual roll, be it the first one or the hundreth one - if the odds are 5%, the odds are 5%.
