  • The Bag Matters

When making Halas meat pies I purchased Deluxe Toolboxes VS using trader satchels. Both hold 10 items, however the deluxe toolbox weighs 3.5 pounds and the trader satchel weighs 25 pounds. You gotta be able to move =).

Another advantage for this when making the pies is that Halas Pies DO NOT fit into backpacks, you need a container large enough to hold the pies, therefore deluxe toolboxes are your best option. I ran around for a long time with trader satchels, complaining to myself that I couldnt move until I found a vendor that sold the toolboxes.

You can purchase unlimited supplies of deluxe toolboxes in POK at the evil side. The female gnome vendor is found in the left side building (by the Cabalis stone). Go into the building and open the wooden door on the left. She also sells some tinkering supplies.

The only thing about summoning weight reduction bags with a tradeskill trophy is that they are NO RENT and often times you have "left overs". So, dont forget to bank what you have or transfer them over to regular bags (deluxe toolboxes or trader satchels for the halas pies to fit in). You dont want to lose all that hard work when you log out =).

Also, most people do not have a tradeskill that is 250 that allows you to get a trophy to summon those bags. HOWEVER when you do reach 250 and have your trophy you can go to the gnome in the Bazaar on the second floor (on the outside balcony) where the NPC vendors are and get ONE 100% weight reduction bag that is not no rent. I do not have that information on hand at the moment (ie the steps required to get that bag) so please look that up if you would like to get it.

Or just use the immense profits that tradeskilling produces to buy eight tink bags

I found the toolboxes to be the best. I have an alt character that I'm stocking full of MTP combines, and once all of her boxes are full of all the components, I just swap and swap and swap and swap and swap.... and swap.... and swap... apply ice to click finger... and swap...

Trader bags don't allow me to do that, they're no drop. Trader bags = 9 extra clicks to transfer the components. Those clicks add up during a marathon session

I need to make more ice.

"Why!?", screamed the man. "Why is it, that after all my time, effort and skill, do you offer me less than 1/20th the purchase price of just the beans I put into this casserole?"
"Because", said the Vendor, "You can't unbake a bean."
Thus the man achieved enlightenment... and became a farmer.

Well, I use trader satchels. Why, you ask? They're 25 stone each, so you're moving slightly faster than molassas in january... assuming you have SoW on. If you're a monk (like me) you can kiss your ac bonus good bye.

            But

You don't have to transfer them to a satchel later on for sale (which you'll have to do anyways sooner or later). You aren't going to be doing this where you can get jumped. Personally, I'm working my HMPs in PoK now that all my farming is done. That way it's a straight hop through the Nexus to the Bazaar. And they are far less expensive than big toolboxes, and you will need them anyways.

              "slower than..."

"did all my baking in PoK..."

              "straight thru Nexus to Bazaar..."

              *raises hand*

You -do- know there is an oven in Bazaar right?

You -do- know that the "weight limit" speed reduction and falling damage are "physics off" in the Bazaar right?

Not joking around. STOP carrying Trader's Satchels anywhere outside the Bazaar. Falling down ONE step when vastly overweight can be fatal.

EQ determines falling damage based on (time falling)(1/safe fall)(weight carried) with weight carried having a Significant Multiplier. Falling even a short distance while dramaticly overweight is almost universally fatal.

True example. I was in Nexus when someone asked me if I would enchant several (later found out 90) blocks of mithril for them to work on their racial smithing. I said "Sure, but I am a Dark Elf and very KOS to Felwithe. You will need to go get the blocks and bring them to me."

Smith and Ranger-friend run to Felwithe to buy 90 blocks of mithril.

Ranger buffs Smith and himself with SoW so they can still MOVE after the purchases.

Smith and Ranger go to run down a staircase to exit Felwithe on the way to the Nexus.

Dead Smith and Ranger start discussing the merits of having Levitate on when they go loot their corpses.

Nothing like being 600 pounds (stones, weight units) over capacity and tripping over a twig to kill yourself.

One of my favorite quotes "Hit him so hard his GIRLFRIEND dies."
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

Umm deluxe toolboxes are about 1pp each....I dunno why you want to run around with a 25# bag (trader satchel) vs a 3.5# bag (d. toolbox). Granted that 100% wt reduction bags are the best...if you cant get one, then a d. toolbox is best.

He listed his reasons, looks like.

Regardless, do what you think's best for YOU, and good luck!

You -do- know there is an oven in Bazaar right?
You -do- know that people choke up the areas around the tradeskill containers, and the lag in the bazaar for some people is such that to move anywhere away from the entrance means instant linkdeath, let alone doing tradeskill combines?

                    Sarcasm aside...

If you ever need to get a LOT of heavy stuff to the Bazaar... head up there with a toon under level 10. Fill said toon's bank with trader bags.
                    Bind in the bazaar! <=-=-Key.

Go to whereever. (Felwithe in your example.)
Buy the materials, moving to the bank as needed.
                    Punch the merchant.
Bam, you die, but end up in the bazaar with your bags full of stuff

(I've lost items recently doing combines in an oven in the Bazaar. Was making Lucky Cabbages. Was only two combines out of 20, so I just moved to Shadowhaven.)

I've found that the best way to get around this problem is by making MTPs instead.

I'm totally with the "don't use tradel satchels" thang...but I do mine a bit more expensively....

Whenever I need more bags, I buy whatever hq bear/hopper hides are in the bazaar and stitch up some backpacks real quick. Granted, I did this mostly when I was working on subcombines for 200-400 solstice robe combines (yes, that many chains). Working with 2 or 3 mules all with the same bags and me too made switching super easy.

And mules under level 10 bound in the bazaar are the only way to go. They are like a self porting suitcase. =)

Or perhaps a mule with GATE so you don't litter with all those bodies lying around.

You know, like an enchanter with a really high cha so he's getting best prices anyways...
