  • GM Baker's Spoon question

Is it worth trying to the combine for the GM spoon at my skill level (229)?

Even if I fail multiple times, the amount of money and time my character will waste on collecting or paying for the resources to raise my baking skill up to 250 might be far less than the failed spoon attempts cost.

The main costs for an attempt are the 4 rubies, 1 jacinith, 1 blue diamond, 1 diamond and the 8 velium bars?

If you are a very high level character, the amount of money it will cost to do 4+ tries might be far less than the money/time to it will take to collect 400-600 griffon meats (like in my case.) For example, that time could be spent in BoT rolling on rare loot to sell that could pay for a dozen spoon attempts.

    Opinions?

Forgot, 1 Black Sapphire but other than that it is correct.

Sounds like you are willing to take the risk of having a few failures. Go for it.

However, wouldn't it be less costly raising your skill on MTPs? I mean at 229 you are very close to max'ing out.

Even with 229 and Trophy you're still going to have to do something to get those last few additional points.

Let us know what you decide.

      Thanks for the advice!

MTP seem like a big pain in the butt to me. I'm still having 10 lbs pie flash backs. /shiver

I was hoping to get some other peoples' experiences on spoon success rates at lower skill levels.

      Thanks.

        hmm

        Buy justice fruits in bazaar.
should be maybe 25pp ea if the seller is reasonable. If you are a forager you can cheap out and just forage them in plane of justice. Prolly get stack/hour.
They will take you to 250 light speed.

basilisk eggs ->jaggedpine basilisk cave (basilisk genetors) get about 10 eggs an hour or more. You could prolly get yer 250 in about 4 hours if you kill basilisks fer an hour, make like 20 stacks of celestial essence, and then do the combines.

It took me a few tries but I got my spoon at skill 204. If you plan on trying 4 combines you will most likely succeed.

As for MTP they are not as bad as HMP. each subcombine for MTP gives you 10 of the item you made.

            Thanks for the advice guys.

I think I'm going to go for the spoon at a skill of 230. Since I've came to back to EQ (after a 4 month break) I have done 11-12 stacks of JP meat/shoot combines and it has yielded me only 4 skills ups. I'm not sure if this is bad luck or what.

all attempts at my spoon were at 255 wisdom + geerlok:

skill 232 - 2 failures of 2 attempts (no skill bump)

skill 249 - 2 failures of 2 attempts (no skill bump)

              skill 250 - 1 more failure, FINALLY 1 success

It's random. I know people who succeeded on their trophies the first time, at 230 skill or lower (which is why i started trying at 232). I don't personally know anyone who took more than my pathetic 6 attempts to finally succeed but I have read stories here of others with even worse luck than I have.

Really depends on your goals. I was more interested in the skill, the trophy was just a nice (and nearly 20kpp) bonus. It's probably coincidence but I suddenly got better success rates with my spoon than i had with my geerlok.

If you've got the resources, just keep trying the spoon at your current level. It cost me right around 3k per attempt, doing all the subcombines myself.

hmmm, my recommendations in regards to Trophies

                1) crank your Wisdom, then your Int, up as high as it can go
(don't forget to ensure that those Misty Picnics are in effect!)
                2) make an extra Dairy Spoon (or two) (remember that you are about to destroy your existing spoon, success or failure!)
                3) if you have a Geerlok, equip it (and sacrifice some Wis/Int in favour of the Geerlok bonus)
                4) recognize that you ARE GOING TO FAIL! and everything will be destroyed! Your plat, your spoon and the Seal.
                5) if you are feeling very lucky, go ahead and hit the Combine button, otherwise toss everything back into the Vault and go skill up somemore

                ------------

                sounds twisted, right?

Works for me. My record at this point is three Seals vanquished!
(also two Dairy Spoons and one Corking Device)

..but it is possible at ridiculously low skill levels. While my Brewing stalled at 249, right after making the Brewing Trophy, my Baking was at 228. (Okay, I got extremely lucky, I know that)

Good Luck, whatever your decision is

There's always hope! I went to skill 234 and made spoon on first try yesterday. Now, I've not been this lucky with other endeavors, so this is *not* a bragging post, but merely an observation that there is a chance! I had a baking geerlok and a shaman focus buff, and my WIS was around 125, INT 280.

Good luck, no matter what you decide!

And there is my poor cleric who wanted to hit 250 first - still took repeated tries to get the spoon, lol. Do it the way you want to - tis the most fun!

                      Baker's Spoon Upgrade

I got lucky and made my GM spoon last nigh on my second attempt. My skill is at (238) + Geerlock.

[IGNORE below found the answer in another thread]

After I made my new spoon I asked around on how to upgrade the no rent satchel to a real bag. I finally found the gnome that does this in the bazaar on the balcony above the NPC vendors.

Well when speaking with the gnome he told me that I could upgrade my GM spoon by combining it in an oven with a mixing spoon ?! Does anyone know anything about this? I tired to combine a dairy spoon and my GM spoon in a spit and the DNC. Thanks for any thoughts or info in advance

                        quoting a previous poster:
"This is antiquated--it is for the people who have the old tradeskill trophy that a) wasn't lore and b) didn't have the skill modifier."

                        And congratulations!!!
