  • Bad luck on MTPs?

I decided to work on Baking last night. So I did some precombines and hauled 'em off to my mule for the next morning. I had enough parts to make 600 combines. Yup, I used all the bank slots and my mule's inventory. (OMG That was a lot of clicking) I found some jord meat/boar meat and I used them to get from 200 to 204. Not bad for 2 stacks of meats.

It got worse. The next morning, I log onto both my accounts and prepare for a long session of clicking. OMG, it took me 6 stacks. Yes, 6 stacks = 120 combines to get from 204 to 205. I was ready to log before I got the skillup. That was some seriously bad RNG! It gave me hope though, that one little skillup. So I trudge on. I did 400 combines out of the 600 because my eyes were starting to twitch. I only got to 217.

I also noticed I had a lot of failures. I was able to make about 8 stacks of MTPs however. So is this typical? Should I wait til I have a higher skill to make these? I have 200 combines left to go but I think I'll wait a week or 2 before taking up baking again!

Oh, FYI I had 355 INT (unbuffed) and only had VoQ on at the time.

[edit] Doh! Meant to put this under "Planning massive skillup" thread! My eyes aren't working yet

If I'm reading you right, you got 13 skillup's on 400 combines. Starting from 204, that sounds about right to me with MTP's. I found skillups from MTP's a little slower than other recipes.

      Well..

Skillups on MTP's seems to be pretty random at times.

The last batch I did (200 combines) took me from 232 to 241. This morning I sat down with another batch of 200...(off course with the hopes of hittting the big 2-5-0)

      126 combines until first skill-up,
then about 50 more until the next one.
After that only ten combines until next skill-up.

I have found that on average for me with INT 255 I get one skill-up per around 40 combines.

However, 191-220 are pure hell to get through, with extremely crappy skill-up as well as few successful combines.

Also, do NOT expect more than a 55% success rate, ever. The trivial on these is estimated to be somewhere around 355, which is unattainable. At 250 skill, with a 246 wisdom, I generally average about a 52% success rate, and I generally do between 200 -400 combines at a time. And, if I remember correctly, after 220ish, the skill ups got better.

        Good luck to you.

          MTP skillup

True. I think 221-241 for me took about 600 combines or so. It went way faster than 191-220.

And the best advice I think I can give: Buy a Geerlok for baking! it made a huge differance in successes for me. (yes, even if you have to sack like 3-4 INT or WIS it is still worth it.)

I was stuck at 205 for what seemed an eternity. Keep plugging at it, you will pass this "hell" level!

              I avg about 55% success at 250 + geerlok. I have 285 Int.

                I agree

At 237 with 255 WIS and the Geerlock, I run about 47% more or less, so I guess that pretty much falls in line. This is my first tradeskill to try and GM although most are at 200 or close, but I can tell you from my experience that the run from 190 to 210 or so attacked me with extreme prejudice. That's a hoop I'm not anxious to jump through again, but I must soon on another skill.

Calling those hell levels is being extremely kind, but I can't think of a worse analogy, so that'll do. 120-160 combines without a skillup was not uncommon for me.

On the brighter side, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, keep at it, you'll survive it and be glad you did.

You've got about 10 more skill points before you're definately out of the hell levels - you've just gotta grin and bear it for a little more.

Once I hit somewhere around 230 Baking (always doing picnics), the skillups seemed to come in waves. There were a few times I would try 100 combines and only receive one skillup (or none ) but the majority of the time I would recieve 3-5 skillups per run (depending on KEI). My last run from 243 to 250 tool only 140 combines. In other words, it gets better.

As for success, I can also attest to a shade over 50% with 250 and trophy. 100 combines generally nets 10 stacks of picnics (200) and a partial stack.

Of course, considering how many I needed to make to skill up, I have no problem with the low success rate.

I'm struggling through 226+ now using JP meats. I've combined about 7-8 stacks of griffon and anaconda meats. And that has yielded a grand total of 3 skill ups to 229.

I remember that levels 191-226 with 10lbs pies averaged about 20 combines per skill up. I'm not sure if it's bad luck or it's just plain harder now post 226. (And this is with 355 INT).
