  • Planning for a massive skill session

I'm an iksar beastlord with a current Baking skill of 193. I'd like to gather the materials together for a massive series of skilling up in hour intervals, try to get the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome over with in as short a time as possible. With a KEI and holding a Geerlok, my wis is 237. I plan on doing Misty Thickets due to my dislike of Mammoth farming for HMP's .

My question is: About how many combines do you think I'll need to run to get up to 240/Grand Mastery?

Obviously there's no set number, the vaguaries of the RNG are indeed a mystery to us all. But, for example, while I was doing a run of 40 attempts at a HMP, I got 1 skill up per stack. Is it safe to assume that (on the average) such a ratio might continue with MTP's? I've read the horror stories of 100/200+ combines with no skill ups, but I chalk those up to abberations of the RNG rather than the norm.

    Thanks for any feedback/ideas

I don't parse but my skilling seems to follow the one skillup per stack pattern. RNG is just too unpredictable to guarantee it but when I work on my GM trades I assume "approximately" a skillup per stack.

On my last run of MTP I did 450 combines for 2 skillups to go from 198 skill to 200 skill with the 2 skillups coming in the last 60 combines. Hope the RNG is kinder to you than it was to me.

I was in a similar boat.

Load up 3 mules with all of the subcombines and you should hit 250.

And yes load them and their bank slots.

fill them up with boxes already prepped with the 8 individual combines used to make the MTP, and go to town.

I was in a very similar boat. Int was in the low to mid 230's, and I started on MTPs at skill 196.

A very short answer, based on my experience, is that it will take you somewhere between 1600 and 2000 combines to get to 240. I was getting about one skillup per 50 to 60 combines until I got close to 220 skill, and then it got significantly better after that. 1400 attempts total has gotten me to 232 from 196.

Good luck on your skill up run.

            At 191:

I prepared a run of 1000. I had a mule on my 2nd and 3rd account hold nothing (on themselves and their banks) except 10 slot tinkeres toolkits full of banking combines and subcombines.
Then I did 200. I found that gave me intense pain from the sheer ammount of clicking involved. took a week before my hand mostly recovered.

in the interim I did planar combines with my left hand - nice and easy, but 10-20 times more expensive vendor farming in the bazaar. I got a much better ration of skillups on the pop combines.

I got up to 225 with the planar stuff then went back to MTP's

from my run of 760 (out of 800 remaining) I got 25 points and maxed Baking.

Based on that, I would say
            1) You need about 2000 combines
            2) Do dailyruns of 200 at a time to reduce serious physical pain and the inventory management issues.
            3) You can therefore do it in about 10 days (runs).

Took my troll SK around 2500 or so with an average INT of 225+ geerlok.

With and INT of 230 and skill of 195, I got a skill-up at around one per fifty combines up until 220.

With an Int of 255 (KEI) and skill of 220, I got a skill-up roughly from every forty combines with the only difference being my last run:

9 skill-ups on 200 combines. I am currently at Baking 241. (and I managed to get my GM Spoon on first combine at 232)

this is what i did to get from 220-250

                  i had a mule, with 16 - 10 slot backpacks (can be 8-slot too).

i did all the combines 16 stacks at a time. set them all up on my mules bank (meaning 20 combines of picnics per bag). meaning i did 320 at a time. so every 2 stacks of combines, i would log on the mule and put 2 more stacks of combines in my shared bank.

i had to do this 4 times, with wis at 305. so if youre looking to get from 193-240. i would say it will take you, at least 2240 combines.

if i did my math right. i hope that made sense to you. it worked very well, it only took me 3 days. about 3-4 hours at a time.

to sum it up, i made 320 of every sub combine, put it all in a mules bank, combined 2 stacks at a time using my shared bank. averaged about a skill up per 2 stacks (40 combines). doing them in that much bulk saved me a lot of time running around to make subcombines.

                    Oy.

I was afraid it would end up being something like that. With the advent of LDoN I find myself making different use of my 1-2 hour playtime slots, but be sure I read and greatly appreciated this information. Time for some brownie genocide...

When i was at 200 skill, i bought materials for 1000 combines, and that took me to i think 242 with 230-240ish wis.

I eventually crept up to 250 on pop baking combines from stuff i found while vendor mining.
