  • MTP's just suck for skillups

At 191 though I would have a major skillup session and try bust to 250 on MTP's in only 1-2 sessions.

Made the subcombines for 1000 attempts (figured about 2000 would max me)

Began the combining. Reached 192 on my 172nd combine and 194 on my 200'th.

Ow. And RSI. and more Ow, with an extra dose of RSI. MTP's are sooo the suck.

Tried my 68 jord/bopar combines, got 5 skillups.

It's been said before.. and I'll say it again...

If the RNG seems to not like you... stop!!!
      Go hunt...
      Go farm...

Go back to combines later... maybe the RNG will take pitty on you for being so cruel before...

250 in brewing with a trophy! All other trade skills? /sigh don't ask.

188-220ish = hell levels - that would have happened no matter what you were combining

            Yeah, MTPs suck

I suppose this might only be a real option for foragers, as my druid is, but I've 'discovered' a rather inexpensive recipe for skilling up around 200+ and it went rather well. Justice Fruit Pies.

I had nearly 2 stacks in my bank from forays into PoJ, I even solo there now and then, so I thought I'd give them a try.

Starting at skill 198 and 255+ wis w/ KEI
I got enough to do 40 attempts and got 9 successes and 2 skillups. That's better than I've ever gotten with MTPs and they aren't anywhere near as much a pain in the rump as the picnics are. The only real bottle neck is the Fruits themselves, since everything else can be vendor bought. The Scent of Mars are a little pricey, I paid about 33p / stack of those, and needed 4 stacks, but I'd still rather pay that than go through all the ****able subcombines for MTPs

I did a bunch of different stuff to get to 250, mostly griffon and anaconda casseroles because i was hunting in jaggedpine back then.

For the Justice Fruit Pies, ya know... I HATE celestial essences.... I would rather do the misty thicket picnics, where every subcombine yields 10. I did a run of 3 stacks of combines of MTP's just tonight, and just for fun because I hadn't done them in ages and ages. I was chatting while working them and it took me maybe 20 minutes, including running back to the bank to get my dairy spoon, etc.

But then i'd do nearly anything to avoid going through still MORE Celestial Essence. That stuff makes me want to chop my computer into little tiny pieces. I buy them in the bazaar whenever possible Other than those, I agree, Justice Fruit Pies are wonderful! I really think it's wonderful there are so many options in baking.

And after Halas Meat Pies, the subcombines on Misty Picnics are a walk in the park.

What's wrong with celestial essenses? You know you can buy both the components for the combine and don't have to mess around searching for spell reasearch bits right?

                  what's wrong with celestial essences?

Yes, i know i can buy all the ingredients.

Yes, my groups usually make me MLooter and I combine them as we hunt.

                  Yes, I know it's a no-skill no-fail combine.

Yes, all my characters get a collapsed mortar & pestle the day they ding 35 so they can combine in the field.

What's wrong with them? They are used in far too many of the recipes I want to make. 20 attempts at sickles, for example, takes 6 full stacks of essences JUST to make the tempers and blessed dusts, assuming no fails (bad assumption). After that, i need 3 more full stacks for the subcombines, assuming no fails (bad assumption). So for a mere 20 attempts at sickles, I end up having to click click click to make up 12 full stacks of the stuff JUST for run at sickles, to be sure I don't run out of them.

What's wrong with them? They are a time sink, nothing more.

Before Luclin and celestial essences, I had the very same mouse since I got a computer! Since Luclin, I've broken 2 of them

Yes, I KNOW i don't HAVE to make those items.

That's what's wrong with celestial essences.

I've had great luck with MTPs. Easy subcombines, only takes me 40ish minutes to whip up enough stuff for 100 final combines. Even a not-so-hot success rate gives me enough picnics to sell back to cover my costs (current skill 218, but have done these almost solely since 191, took one break for 100 HMP combines and have done Truffles here and there until 202, but overall I've done 80% MTP).

However, after exping in BoT for a week, I'm sitting on 8-9 stacks of baking parts to use, so I will finally get a break from picnics Then back to making them since 2 of my characters have a big appetite for them.

I did MTp's exclusively from 192 to 250. And It never did me any harm.

                        yeah right!

I did MTPs from 202 til 250 with the exception of about 1 stack of lotus pie combines that I had been saving. One reason was that all the materials were very easy & cheap to get. The other is that all the subcombines had great yields. Sure the the skill up rate sucked & I spent more time running around and doing subcombines, but at least I never had to stop to go farm materials. Ok, so I had 1 trip to steamfront for brownie parts, but that was still easy.

I'm curious, has anyone taken the time to figure out how much each combine of a misty thicket picnic costs? (assuming foraged items were foraged ect).

I was about to do it myself, remembered how many items there are and decided it might be faster to look around for the answer

                          Thanks,

                          Kirstie

the answer: 3gp per picnic assuming you farm brownie and do your own foraging. So 1.2PP per combine. This is the cheapest of all skills to raise.

I love this recipie because you have to do lots of pre-combines bit each pre combine makes 10 items to make up for it. Plus I actually have a use for the product I make when Im done (yea I eat em).

MTPs also take only 1/4 as many subcombines as HMPs and only 1/10 as much farming - they kick butt!
