I have a serious newbie question.. but is Alchemy a level based tradeskill? For instance can i start a level 1 barb shaman and get to 200? Or do i need to level?

Reason im asking is because a level 1 toon can be a 252 jewler or whatever..

Im sick of buying potions and i want my own pocket alchemist...

You can't even start Alchemy until level 25 and it is level capped at level -24 x 5. So at level 50 you can have a skill of 130, no more.

If I am reading the skill cap correctly as <your level>-24*5, then how did people reach 200 before PoP? Before PoP you could only go to level 60, and 60-24=36, 36*5=180, so 180 was as high as you could go before PoP?

180 was indeed as high as you could go before pop.
