  • Gate Potion vs. TP Potions

I'm just curious if someone could list the most convenient potions for someone to use in relation to the newly installed PoP books.

In other words is it best to go to Shadweavers, Bonefield or other location in order to readily get up to PoK?

This would be a great selling point btw to promote for those of you that want to make money back off of your alchemy skills ) !

There's plenty of us non-gaters out here that are looking for a handy potion to always have on them for that unexpected departure or just to bail out and the end of a boring raid )

Seems the best way to look at this would be a breakdown of all the potions and their relative location to the PoK books )

This would be awesome to know !

    Thanks )

AFAIK, the potion that drops you closest to a PoK book is Field of Bone.

It would depend on where you are bound, most over level 50 bind in SH or the Nexus. If you were to bind in PoK then a Gate Potion (gate to bind) would take you right to where you need to be.

My warrior has used all three of the other potions and Field of Bones potion is probably the best of those 3.

Bone Field takes you to loc +340, -1961 - Ruins entrance archway near Kaesora, this is a fairly "easy" run to EJ The book is at -3000, +1845 which is near East Cabilis

Frost takes you to loc -919, +114 - along the mob path in front of "3 igloos" , if you aren't used to the maze there it would be easy to get lost. The book is at +2880, -70, in the "newbie area" very near to the zone into Halas.

Swamp takes you to loc -483, +985, inside the Shadowed Men Camp (side note here, my warrior was about 50 and at about half health when she used a Swamp potion, and she almost died trying to get to the zone--I wouldn't use it for young melee) The book is at -722, -33 fairly near to Guntak (old Grobb)

Quite frankly Gates to Bind are your best bet.

If you have LoY, getting lost in the maze in Everfrost is harder - you can use the map feature and it has a map built in. I think most towns and newbie zones have this now.

          well

what about shadeweaver one, where does it drop you?

The PoK book is right next to Shar Vahl, so if the potion drops you there as well....

The PoP books completely ruined all port potions sales for me

Maybe will have some luck with gate potions.

A question that came up when I was speaking with a shaman about the gate/tp potions

When you drink one, if you are attacked, is your channeling skill taken into account regarding success/failure, or does it automatically fail (and is the potion still consumed?)

Dlanaan, yes your channeling skill will be used when casting item effects. Remember though, that the general consumer of a gate potion is someone who cannot cast spells. The exception would be hybrids, but pure melees have zero channeling skill and any hit landed on them from a mob will interrupt the cast.

I believe that an interrupted potion is not consumed.

For melees, the relative "cast" time of the potions becomes relevant for getting places. All 4 gate-to-location potions have a 30 second delay.

                  Gate-to-bind is only 10 seconds.

                    another factor is cost!

                    GATE:
according to eq trader prices( http://www.eqtraders.com/prices/alchemy.htm) the gate potion is 84pp(per heliotrope) X3 (number needed per potion) = 252pp for one potion (eeep!)

                    Bone Field: (as an example)

according to eq trader prices( http://www.eqtraders.com/prices/alchemy.htm)
                    the bone potion requires 1 sandalwood @ 84pp and 1 heliotrope @ 84pp.
                    84*2= 168pp

                    gate is 252pp
                    bone is 168pp

So, i guess you would be paying for convenience.

Yes, PoP has hurt the sale of gating potions, which is why I /auc Now selling <Gate Potion> (Gate to bind), don't let your melee go into a dungeon without one!!

There are places that are difficult to get out of without tp/port/gate, a few that come to mind ToV, HS, PoG, Hate and Fear. You go LD during a raid and aren't able to get back until hours later you'll be glad you have that potion in your backpack. I also go to PoG often with another shaman, a warrior and a rogue, the warrior and rogue carry gate potions to get out and the shaman and I just gate.

There are uses for gate potions and I don't think they will ever NOT be used (unless Sony decides to let all melee have gate).

The shadeweaver one drops you right at the zoneline to Shar Vahl. It's a VERY easy run through the newbie area to hit the book from there.

I still sell *some* of the port potions, as well as the new gate to bind potions, but sales have definitely settled down a bit. After all, it's still really a "good thing" for a nongating tank to have an alternative way to get out of odd places.

As of LoY, the swamp port potions are now very safe and drop you at the other hand (the one that used to have the troll dot scrolls vendor). The shadow men are no longer in the zone as best I understand, and the book's an easy run through the swamp.

i still buy potions as my warrior and monk (till my shaman can make them). if the guild needs me to meet for an event/raid i need to be able to leave fast, and helps if you are stuck in a hard to get out of spot (like ToV). sometimes in EXP groups there isnt a wizzy to TL me out, and requesting the druid to gate me can break up a group.

that said the gate to FoB is the 1 i prefer. even though my warrior is a barb i occasionally get turned around in everfrost and HATE the maps.
