Trophy issue

I have a journeyman's alchemy trophy at 89%
My unmodded alchemy skill is 227

The trophy evolves fine when I make IX potions (celestial heal, alacrity, clarity) using deepwater inks, but doesn't budge at all when making X potions. Deepwater Ink is pricier on my server than nodding blue lillies and I can farm the lillies more easily with my main, so it's kind of annoying that I can't get the trophy to evolve doing X potions. Is this normal or is my trophy bugged? I counted my successes the other day - 21 successful X potion combines and 0% to trophy. Is this because I'm trying something too far above my alchemy skill level?

This is normal behavior. A trophy will only gain experience if the trivial is within 100 points of your unmodified skill. So at 227, your trophy will only gain exp for combines of trivial 228-327. Once you reach raw skill 250, your trophy will gain exp from any non-trivial combine.

Watch the price on Red Cups... can you pick those up cheap? I was able to get bundles of them on my server and get my skill to 255. Then I starting farming/buying up the NBLs and evolving my trophy.

They cost minimum 150 each on my server.
Deepwater inks arent too bad in price but they aren't sold very often (anywhere from 40pp to 80pp each).

I also direct you to this thread in which we discussed various alternatives to get one's alchemy skill from 210 to 300.

In short:

Grieg's End to farm Robust Shadow Essences. Good gem drops and AAXP. Used for Skinspikes VIII which triv 262ish.

Hearty Goblin Blood from Nurga/Droga. Also used in several options triving around 250ish.

Red Caps: Don't bother.

Hearty or Exceptional Shissar Blood: Don't bother. Seriously, the only place for this is Ssra, and drop rates start at rare and go down to 'I didn't have this much trouble with Raster'.

Kedge Keep near the seahorse caves area is probably the best place to farm deepwater inks - between the seahorses and the mermaids nearby, it's got a good drop rate. I know the Ink also drops in siren's grotto, but KK is far safer with a higher kill rate.

Hearty Shissar Blood drops in the grey on the snakes around the temple. Looking for gloves for an alt have gotten about 10-20 a hour.
