Anyone know where this comes from? A friend of mine has one

Alchemy made Philter of the Thicket is most likely what you mean.

Probably just someone with a leftover that did not get converted.

Sure do, if memory serves me there are several places you can port to directly other then your bind point. They are also considerably cheaper to make. The ones I could think of off the top of my head are:

          Everfrost Port

          Twilight Sea Port

          Shadeweavers Thicket Port

          Field of Bone Port

            There's also the swamp port

Port potions cost about 105-110p to make depending on your purchasing power.. I used to keep a stack of Shadeweavers ones back when I was getting ready to do fletching... Before I logged off everynight I'd port there, kill Shak Drathas, collect a stack or so of condensed shadows, camp for the night, start the next day there, collect another stack or so, and go on with my play time.

Yeah, I don't really make the gate potions since the other port potions use only one heliotrope instead of two. I usually make the philter of bonefield. It's close enough to POK via the book and then you don't have to worry about zoning slow due to the amount of people in the zone.
