  • Bad Alchemy Combine: Howlite combine returns celestine?

My shammy has a 300 alchemy skill, and a master trophy, so my shown skill using my foldable medicine bag is 336. I have a 255 wis (maxed for my level).

    I combined the following ingredients:
    radiant howlite
    dihedral burin
    mark of sight
    reduced amber resin
    treanic acid

    in my foldable medicine bag.

I expected to receive a radiant howlite of minor sight back, with the dihedral burin and mark of sight. Even on the failure, per listings on EQ traders, I should have seen just the dihedral burin an mark of sight back.

I recieved instead a Radiant Celestine of Minor sight, with the dihedral burin and mark of sight.

Would someone help me understand how a howlite combine yields a celestine result?

To answer some possible questions: This was the first combine I did all night, there is no way I am confusing my howlite inventory with celestine. I dont have a celestine anywhere on any of my characters, the howlite is for my monk. After this combine, I was rather shaken, so I did no further alchemy combines.

I didn't have any AAs like salvage or anything like that, the character is lvl 32.

I bugged the problem, we'll see if a GM gives me a replacement.

This kind of shakes my whole confidence in the alchemy system, I plunked down some hard earned PP for this combine, and my monk really doesn't need a celestine item...

I looked at this from 5 different angles.

I never once found anything where this would have happened. And when I do the recipe myself, I come up with the correct item.

Unfortunately, despite what you seem to remember (please, I am not trying to say you lied or any such thing), it really does look like you used a Celestine. Unfortunately our logs do not track combines :/ so I cannot dig through logs to look.

Since I could not find any actual bug, you are in CS's hands.

I have actually heard of this type of thing happening before. I heard it happened on a failure. (i.e. you fail to make the radiant something of whatever, but you get a radiant somethingelse of whatever back) I was under the assumption that this had been fixed with the last patch from what the patch said. I can't remember exactly what it said, but I'm positive that it was a similar mishap.

I don't think they will give you another stone. I would just sell the one that you made and hope to get back enough money to try a second time.

When OoW came out there was a small set of recipes that were bugged such that failure (and maybe even success for some) would return completely the wrong stone. The recipes were just in the system with the wrong items, it wasn't a coding thing. At first I thought this might have been one of those that slipped through the fixes somehow, but I'm sure Ngreth checked for that. Well and he tried it and it worked as it should have, so that's not it. To the best of my knowledge there was never a bug with these other than those goofed recipes, which at least were consistently goofed.

I checked thoroughly (the five different angles I mentioned)
