I levelled a shaman to lvl 25 so that I could persue Alchemy.

Have made it to 199 and after 500+ combines on a 210 level combine, I have not received any skill ups to 200 - the combine in question is the same I have been using to get to 199 i.e. philter of wolf V (sry if wrong name).

Has anyone got any similar experience or knowledge that says I need to level the shaman further to let it get 200+

I know RNG but 500 just seems a bit extraordinary

    Calculator comes up with:

    Adjusted Skill = 199
    Success chance = 93%
Chance of skill up on Success: 1.85%, on failure: 0.93%, overall 1.79%

Anyway before I start running out of more bank space just wanted to know if has any knowledge that I am missing.

    Thanks

Nope, you're high enough to go all the way. Skilling up just gets increasingly hairy in the 190+ skill range, and you've hit a rough patch. 500+ is pretty bad but not freakishly unusual. Skilling up alchemy is coded to take more combines than any other skill (plug other skills into the calculator with the same skill, trivial, and wis and you'll see the chance of skillup change) so our ugly streaks tend to be even worse than those encountered in other skills. Just keep on combining!

Given the numbers you're posting you are not using a trophy or a geerlok and you try to get into the 200's on 85 WIS.

Get some cheap WIS jewelry, a bracelet of sense, a festive doll and do slipgear's gem, beg for chanter WIS buffs plus whatever you can do to get your WIS somewhere near the 250 possible.

The components saved due to faster skill-ups will pay for considerable twinkage though I'd say at 85 WIS your toon must be pretty much naked.

See my sig... level 25 is all that's required.

Oh, and I spent maybe 5Kpp on gear to get the lil shammy to 255 WIS. Really not that expensive. Though, until you hit 231, it doesn't really matter anyway, since everything is storebought and pretty cheap. Once you're farming/bazaaring stuff to skill up on, then you really want to max your WIS.

My shammy is level 25 with an unmodified skill of 202 and the Trophy to put it around 112. His wisdom is also just over 200.

It's just the RNG up to it's old masochistic tricks again.

Thanks for the replies - yes naked toon - will get some wis stuff for the +231 skills.

Unlucky streaks I am accustomed to - smith 450 strength 3 skill ups in 400 mistletoe cutting with a 200+ baren spell in there somewhere and 3 skill ups in a row in hte 290s- RNG just seemed to be conspiring against me on a conspiquous numer 199 to 200 so I thought I would ask - glad I did now.

            Thanks again.

            Edit : 210 now

It gets much worse. Poor Friia is about as wise as she can get, but still not great (240ish). Last time I did a run it took me about 600 combines to go from 274 to 290. I'm dreading the last 10 points to 300.

                Slow skillups

I know the feeling. Of late these last couple of weeks with a skill of 235 in alchemy and Journeyman trophy (280 wisdom):

140 Nodding Blue Lillies and 200 Deepwater Inks later = 0 skillups

Trying again with the next batch of 100 NBLs but it doesn't look promising when you get 0 skillups in 340 combines.

All skills capped [edit: a FEW skills capped *shakes fist at increased skill caps*], all Shrouds free, close to max AAs for 63.

Welcome to the life of tradeskilling!

I think it took me somewhere around 5,000 NBL to get from 280 to 300, with the majority of those on the last 5 or 10 skill points. It seems the closer you get to 300, the less likely you are to skill up. Or maybe I am just that unlucky. LOL.

                  Good luck with the RNG.

There was an old hell level just before 200 but I thought it was removed long ago to smooth out the skills to 300's

Anyway I got my pockey shammy from character creation screen to twinked with 200+ alchemy in under 20k total. Since I did most of the junk jewelery for WIS, it was cheaper than bazaar route but still had to pick up a few more WIS gear. Boneflow stones can help since they are not lore and radiant cut offers +12, stuff em full in your shammy for easier skillup. I've seen uncut version for about 1k and full cut for around 8k.

It should take much much less than 20k to get to skill 231...

I can't remember how much it cost me, but it was much less than 20k, probably half that.

20k included the twink gears, not just the skillup. It was under 1k total to get alchemy to 200 itself using vendor bought stuff.

The twink gear tended to be rather expensive on Maelin server so other server will probably cost a lot less than 20k.
