  • Freebie Quest in Abysmal

Not sure if I'm supposed to be doing something different but I can't seem to get the next part of the task. I keep getting the Ink and Resin, which trivials at 31. I'm trying to get the next set which I assume is the red dye as opposed to the black dye. Can't seem to find it or figure out how to get it. Anyone know?

    TIA.

You just have to keep doing the same item, over and over, until you've handed in about 100-120 successes (I forget the exact number). When you've handed in enough, you'll automatically get the next set of combines when you ask for more work.

Thought it might be something like that. Thanks.

Also do not start it unless you have time to finish it or you have to start over. I camped out to go to work and when I got home and wanted to finish the last few combines I had to start over from the beginning and go thru what I had already done before...

OK, now that sounds like a bug. I've had no problems taking "pauses" of a few months between these sessions. (I started fletching many moons ago, but didn't finish it then. I resumed it a couple of weeks ago and it picked up right where I left off.)

I did not have to start over. I got the first half of the black dye done, camped out, came back the next day did the other half, started on and finished the green dye, started the blue dye, had to log again, came back finished the blue dye and then got the red.

Here is a write up I did for the new version of the storyline alchemy bible I'm putting together:

In the hold in the Abysmal Sea with the other Alchemy vendors is one called Lita Hegeway. She has one quest and a set of chores. Ask about her chores. There are 4 of them, each must be done in successive order and getting the next one is determined by the first one. Tell her, "I will help out". First she will give you a stack of squid ink and a stack of wayfarer resin. These combine to make wayfarer black dye and trivials at 31. Keep telling her "I will help out" and getting more stacks. It took me about 6 or 7 stacks of each one. Once you have turned in around 100* of these combines you will get the next one. It is wayfarer green dye which is green plant extract and wayfarer resin. This trivials at 38. Again, turning in around 100* of these will trigger the next one, which is the wayfarer blue dye. This consists of simple berry extract and wayfarer resin. This trivials at 46. Once around 100* of these are turned in, you will get the final chore of creating the wayfarer red dye. Composed of rare cactus beatle and wayfarer resin this will trivial at 54 and is the last of the free skillups in alchemy. It's well worth doing and the price is right.

*NOTE: I say around 100 turn ins because it is not quite right and I don't know the exact number. I did turn ins of 102, 98, and 101. I stopped with the red dye when my skill had reached 54, because I knew that was the limit. You will not get anymore of the same task or the next task as long as you have any of the ingredients or the components in your inventory. So you can't stock up and do all the combines then all the turn ins. You must either combine and hand in or just destroy what ever is left over. You cannot sell it. I know the number of hand ins is between 85 and 98, since 85 got me the previous quest and 98 got me the next. My guess would be either 90 or 95. And the recipe for each dye wasn't in my medicine bag to begin with. I had to experiment until my first success.

I don't know if there is any GoD alchemy, but I had to do the Jewelcraft and Smithing newbie quests to complete some of the tradeskill trophies. You must finish the 100 (ish) turn-ins to be flagged for those combines. I'd suggest completing this (and the other abysmal newbie quests). Nothing is worse than having to make an extra couple hundred combines just to unlock the combine you wanna do

There is no need to do the quests to get the refined version of GoD tradeskill materials, if this is what you mean. The quests are for those who want to refine the materials without NPC help.

If I were after a few refined materials I'd simply use this route.

I believe the Smithing quest (for example) may have changed since I did it, but items such as Pale Platinum Mace or Gem-bladed Stiletto would give a message close to "you do not posess the knowledge" unless you were flagged by completing the newbie quest. I knew of the turn-ins for the subcombines, but was still unable to complete the higher level combines without completing the newbie quests.

Again, I don't know if there are any GoD Alchemy combines for trophies, but I'd finish the newbie quest for later convience.

I never did the newbie quest in alchemy (didn't know about it until I was already at 300, lol). I haven't come across I potion that I can't make. Granted that there are still recipes that have not been discovered, but for all the others I've been able to make
