  • Herb Conversions?

SO my roguish gnome Breckle needs to find a Bundle of Wormwood to make some "Leprous Pus", so she can complete her Poison Making Contest.

She first went shopping in PoK and afterwards checked the more commonly known toxin vendors and eventually figured for sure, someone in Abysmal Sea would have it.
Well a tad frustrated having not found it there either, she pondered to herself about it and thought who else might sell such odd herbs and then it dawned on her that a shaman uses such ingredients to make their plethora of potions.

Well we did find Wormwood and even a Sprig of Wormwood!
Several other herbs were also available in bundles and eventually she began to realize while shopping, that she didn't remember there being as many vendors in either PoK's herb shop, nor in the cargo hold out on the boats.

Yet another factor was that there was a recent reVamp of alchemy she had read about and as a result of these new potion creations was probably a need to provide a variety of the ingredients and one such way was to offer them in different quantities. (She also /smirked to herself since making different posions had become much simpler and thankful not to be a shaman).

Even more curious now about alchemy, then simply grinding venom sacs into some ooze which to dip her dagger into, she took notes about the various measurements sold.

    Bundles - Fragments - Grains - Measures - Pieces - Pinches - Sections - Sprigs.

Of course, you could still just buy a single leaf, if that was all you needed, as she thought with the Wormwood, but then again, like working with Clay or Metal Ore, couldn't you reduce or increase the size of the needed measurements of the herbs?

Okay, Okay - she has no skill using a medicine bag, but if given enough Wormwood purchased locally, couldn't she give a nearby shaman a handful to mash together as convertable number to result in a bundle combine?

Well then, Ennixy Frennor found in the back corner of Steamfont Mountains sells a Bundle of Wormwood, but then for some odd reason she wasn't as welcomed to purchase them. /Sneaky she was able to dupe her into a sale of this rather rare commodity and it happens to be that with the Brimstone she also had available, Breckle could improve on her brewing skill which seemed to have stalled after making the sauces as crab and tuna marinate.

Nice idea, from a Game perspective.

From a realism perspective though, I can see you could make a bundle of herbs starting with the base herbs, but it's generally not so easy to go from a single leaf to a sprig etc....

    PS:

so yes, it WAS available in the Abysmal Sea.

      I definitely considered it.

But I have only heard constant complaints about "extra steps" from the community... Especially Spell research, so I just made the different size items available from the vendors. I try and learn from what you guys say.

Pssst, N, don't give em everything they want... then they'll really be unhappy! Too much of a good thing and all.... extra steps may sometimes be neccessary for RP or just to make it something of a challenge.

I was actually a little unhappy with the availability of herbs. The wife really likes it for now, but to my mind... why not just put the potions on vendors, so we can "skip all those annoying sub-combines" and just get the finished product....

Unfortunately, I think it would be a nightmare to allign up the herbs so that certain classes of potions can only be easily made in certain areas... (E.G. ice/cold related in Thurgadin, poisons in gukta(poisonous frogs ya know), skinspkes in Kelethin or Surefall(those crazy druids)) Sounds like good RP but miss one oft required herb and whammo..... everyone is annoyed.

In this scheme then conversions maybe make every type/quantity of herb available everywhere? I know seeing all those stacks and stacks of herbs on the vendors makes it tough to find what you need in the list.....

        My 3.4 cents.
        Ten.
I call for the elimination of EQ levels 1-50.
