  • New skill up path?

    I'm just getting into alchemy and was wondering if anybody had some suggestions on what might be a reasonable skill up path, right now my skill is at 46 thanks to the Abby Sea quest I'd prefer a way to skill up off of vendor bough materials at least for awile if its possible.

    Currently you can get to 231 without needing any drops (you'll need to make your own throwable vials or get a Potter to make them - highest triv there is under 80, and it's trivial to get to Pottery over 100 in under 1 hr). The recipe is now in the database, have a dig around.

      Without needing a potter, and without leaving Abysmal Sea, you can get to skill 210, fairly cheaply (<10kpp with WIS around 200)

      Code:
       27 Elixir of the Serpentine I
       32 Effusion of Saryrn I
       45 Elicir of the Serpentine II
       50 Elixir of the Beast II
       55 Antidote II
       95 Effusion of E'ci IV
      106 Skinspikes IV
      110 Immunization IV
      148 Antidote V
      156 Tonic of Gelid Affinity II
      164 Philter of Gaerune
      170 Philter of the Wolf IV
      210 Philter of the Wolf V

        Wouldn't it be even cheaper by doing the alchemy beginner's quest in Abysmal for a free 50+ points too?

        For someone who's a penny pincher, every savings helps.

            Im at 193 or something, 200 with my 5% mod, I see to 210 I can do all vendor bought Philters of the Wolf V, but the one ingredient listed there (measure of wolf blood x2) has no vendor/loc to get in the link, anyone know where that is? Also noticed for the earlier ones, the dash of wolf blood and drop of wolf blood have no listed vendor/drop. edit - nm, looked it up on Lucy and has Lita Hedgeway as the vendor.

            Is there any list suggested yet for post 210? Like easiest to farm/find drops/bazaar/vendor diving?

                Sorry if this sounds lazy, Ive done an amount of research through websites today, Crucible, this one, Lucy, Allah and cant find who sells some of the components listed, if someone knows a better place to search (or if I just have to look around in game) or someone just can share it with me that would be great. Im at 210 now and was going to work on Formed Suspension of Slime VII and I cant find who sells:

                Bundle of Bitterwood Twigs
                Sprig of Angurth
                Sprig of Yellow Rheum

                Betherim Bark I found in Shadowhaven from Steaon Alarenier, so maybe the rest come from that zone too? Thanks

                      After 231 what is the quickest way to skill up now? I have been farming deepwater ink, up to 480 now, but I imagine I will need A LOT more than that to get to 300. Is there another, less time consuming, method besides inks or lillies? Thanks.

                        I rather doubt it. The drop rates on those 2 items are much better than on any of the hearty or exceptional bloods/essences.

                        Ngreth has already confirmed that there is nothing that is purely vendor-bought that will get us anywhere past 255, so while the possibility of there being some others somewhere between 231 and 255 still exists, I don't hold a great deal of hope on that. (The 255 skill was what the questioner had, not what Ngreth volunteered, so don't read too much into that).

                          Ngreth has also posted that he has increased the drop rate on the Hearty/Robust/Exceptional items (WOOT!!) with this latest patch, so they may not be as difficult to farm now.

                          ===Excerpt from post===
                          That said, in addition to all of the potion changes listed above, I managed to get in some dropped-component changes.

                          * Tier 7 -
                          o Old Drop Rate: 1 in 4
                          o New Drop Rate: 1 in 3

                          * Tier 8 -
                          o Old Drop Rate: 1 in 10
                          o New Drop Rate:1 in 5

                          * Tier 9 -
                          o Old Drop Rate: 1 in 20
                          o New Drop Rate: 1 in 7
                          The Tier 10 stuff was not as easy to modify, due to the fact that it has a pretty significant merchant-value. I can't just increase the drop rate of those items, since that would also increase the amount of money being brought into the world pretty significantly, so there's a lot more involved with changing that one.

                          That's not to say that we're not going to do it, it's just that it didn't make it in this update. It should make it in for the next update.

                          ===End of excerpt===

                              Well, thanks to you both anyway

                              About the Shards of Ro: I really do suggest that you drop its' merchant buy price by about a factor of 10, that way you can up the drop rate without worrying about the cash increase, PLUS this encourages players to sell these to other players rather than just vendoring them. At their current prices, anyone that gets one of these as a drop and makes a level X potion with it has just done the equivalent of buying a 120pp-ish component in terms of cash loss -- and although these potions are very good after the updates, there are not enough people willing to pay 150pp for them. The situation is worse, over 150pp to buy back from a vendor, if you didn't hunt it yourself.
