  • Best selling OoW aug?

Hello everyone. Currently, I am racing my alchemy as fast as possible and as high as possible. By a stroke of luck, I was able to win an augment in Walls of Slaughter (+1% DoT shielding). I was wondering if I wanted to sell this for a profit (fair, reasonable deal) which effect should I go for? I thinking my best bet might be the 40% haste? What do you all think?

It kind of depends on how long you want to hold on to that augment. At 237, you're not likely to want to try to modify it. If it's something that you plan on selling you're pretty much going to have to have it radiant cut. This would increase it's shielding to 3% and is done via jewelcrafting (get a JCM 3 chanter to do it for you).

While 40% haste may sound like a really good augment, what I've noticed is that most people who can afford such an augment already have a 41% (or better) haste item. When making augments for general sale (ie not custom order), I try to make ones where the effects fit together well. Such as Cleave 3 on a Strikethrough aug, or Imp. Healing on a Wis aug, Imp. Damage on an Int aug. Since DoT shielding is kind of a defensive focus, I would think something like Dodge might be good.

Keep in mind, to make a Radian X of Pure Y, you will need to have success on a jewelcraft >300 combine, a smithing >300 combine, and two alchemy (or poison making) >300 combines. While failure one any one of these may not result in a total loss, a failure nonetheless is costly.

Thanks for the advice. I will certainly take it into careful consideration. Luckily my main character (67 Paladin) it working on blacksmithing and has all blacksmithing AAs. I also have a jewelcrafting friend to help with radiant cutting it. I just need to get both skills higher before attempting (indeed failure would be quite costly).

Agree with Mewkus on the effects, thought Id add +attack as an option which I often attached to my melee type augments, sells pretty well. However in some cases, depending on your server, it might be wiser to just sell the augment and not attach a focus to it due to the high prizes on slugworms and inlays. These days I normally sell my radiant cut augs, white gold inlays, slugworms and black gold inlays seperately, since on my server pure augs often sell for less than the ingredients. Another advantage of this for me was my sales went up by a lot, parts sell about 3 times as fast as my finished augments did, and I'm taking less risks since I don't have to do the 2 poisonmaking/alchemy combines =)
Might be a completely different situation on your server though, but look up the prices of subcombine ingredients vs the price you could sell your final augment for first to see if it's worth the risks, good luck!

Personally, I'm a big fan of salvage for all those high-value combines. There's discussion elsewhere on this site about the impact of salvage vs. mastery and from what I can tell, the consensus from those who've studied the abilities is that salvage is far more important than mastery.

So if you'll be doing the combines on two different characters, you might want to make sure they both have the salvage AA's.

As far as the effect to add, you might want to wait until someone buys the parts, then offer to combine them. Augs with effects generally cost more money than I've ever had, but someday I will have some! I'll be looking for a melee type aug with an effect of Affliction Efficency, Affliction Haste or Burning Affliction. (Celerity, Virility and Potency if I remember right.) These effects are almost non-existent for rangers. If you try to prestock the common combinations, you'll miss out on oddball business like mine.

The price of slugworms isn't an issue of course with the aug MatthyasL mentioned. If we were discussing the cheap augs, I'd say you are definately better off not adding effects. Use a better aug when you need an effect and you'll save the cost of the slugworms and end up with a better item.

I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

If you're not a necromancer, the _only_ items with Affliction Haste V are OoW augments. Affliction Haste V is the best spell haste in the game for dots...
