  • New potions on Test

I went to make up some Gate and SoW potions to put on my vendor this evening, and I saw a new potions vendor PoK with the rest. So, being the curious tradeskiller that I am, I went to check them out. Well, it seems that this vendor is selling already made potions. Off the top of my head, I remember clarity, health, speed and healing potions. And they are stackable. However, they appear to be very short duration. The clarity potions, ranging from Elixer of Clarity VI (which is KEI) to Elixer of Clarity X (which cast the spell Elixer of Clarity X) had durations of 8.5 min for the lowest potion to 3 min for the highest and ranged in price from 7 pp to 39 pp each.

Anyway, I haven't heard anything from the devs about this. I don't know if this is just something they are adding to Test to help us out with the low populations there or if it's something that intended to eventually go live. Not all the potions have full descriptions yet. I'll have to check on Lucy to see what all the effects are. Anyway, be warned, the Alchemy business may be getting a bit of competition from the NPCs.

    Worthless

These potions are terrible in the current form, 3 min duration. If you have a slow puller you can blow a potion and never use its benefit.

The version 10 of these potions are 40pp each. Major money sink for almost no benefit. These are intended to helpa player solo better, but why on earth would anyone not insane spend 40pp for a 3 min haste buff when they can get salik in POK for 20pp that last over anhour. Or clarity for 3 min for 40pp when you can get a 4+ hour KEI.

Sure these stack on top of the buffs, but with caps, your probably capped out and getting no return for 40pp. If its overcap, then at that point a 3 min haste overcap is probably not going to make that much difference to your EXP bar, but its surely going to dent your bank account.

No, these potions in the current state of duration 3 min is a nice idea with horrible implementation. It smacks of "update note padding" to claim such marvelous new additions to the game but no real benefit added.

If SOE honestly wants this feature in game, they need to be at a minimum 15 min in duration, or people just wont use them. After the patchday euphoria wears off in a week, no one is going to be buying these.

If the clarity versions stack with kei/voq/etc, it'll probably only be used in the guild hall when needing to do a bunch of enchanting or imbueing. If the haste one stacks with spell&song haste, it'll probably only be used on raids when taking down the final boss mobs. Otherwise, with those durations, no one will bother.

        Any more info

The info seems kind of scetchy. The questions I would have are; Can they be purchased and then combined in a BPB to create 10 dose version, what are the properties of the different types (ie is the heal one a regen heal or an all at once type), and are they level capped (ie the ver X one useable only by players 65+, etc). With the minimal info here I would agree that they are looking like a soloist downtime reducer more than anything else. Even then, if they are limited to single dose only, carrying enough to make a difference will be problematic.

They are stackable no need for a 10 dose version.

If they stay with the very low duration, I don't forsee anyone wanting these past the initial release. Especially if they cost any amount to make. The only use I could see is on a wipe and you want to get mana back for a short time before a mana buff is cast. If it does stay that way, I'd rather prefer a potion that just gives them back different fixed amounts of mana. Unfortunately they'd have to have reuse timers or they'd be like the mod-rods of old.

Moved up to 30 min duration now. BTW these don't stack with player buffs, so if you have KEI, you don't need the potion (the top one, elixir of clarity X, is the same mana regen as KEI).

Price range is from about 2 gold for the cheaper potions, to 40pp for the high end ones.

Still, a half hour KEI level regen potion for 40p is a good deal in my opinion. And, I think the shaman should be making these potions rather than being pushed out by the merchants.

ok i see one of two possibilities. one this will push shammies to make way higher end potions, and two, these will be used for krap buffs. at either rate i agree shamans should be makeing these, not purchased from a vendor.

According to info from the fan fair, Shaman will be able to make these potions for about 60% of what the vendor charges (IE 12pp for a 20pp potion) They are mearly putting them on vendors to so that if you can not find a cheaper shaman made one, you can still get some. (an idea I like)

By making them available at merchants, they put a cap on the price a shammy can charge. They should at least make the shaman version last longer (maybe double the time) to make them more attractive for people to buy from Shaman rather than merchants.

Competition, even from NPC's, is kind of nice. I'd love to have a lot more PC services available from NPC's at a considerable markup.

My tinker can make bow cams with about a 1% failure rate. My cost is less than half what an NPC charges. If I try to charge as much as the NPC's, I'll sell zero, but if I charge a reasonable markup, I make money and the fletcher saves money. If I'm not around, the fletcher still has a place to go.

I've seen folks begging for 2 hours in PoK to get a punt to WoS and offering 500pp. Providing the translocator in the guild hall eliminated that stress, noise and aggrevation, but most people will still pick a PC to port them if it's available, and always if it's cheaper.

Another example... Sometimes 3/4 of the noise in PoK is people screaming and whining for one buff or another. If these buffs were available from an NPC for an inflated fee, the chanters and clerics would still make profits. It would just make the game more pleasant for those who can't find anyone to help them. In fact, it makes life more pleasant for the casters too. The way it looks now is, the buffs are free and it's pure profit. People get nasty with casters who don't want to buff or set a fixed price because they're charging for a freebie. It's much harder to blame a caster for saving them money that an NPC would have gotten.
I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

So, has anyone seen recipes for these things yet? Because I'd be happy to make them and sell them, but haven't seen recipes.

Of course, I haven't really looked, either *giggles*.
