  • Alchemy attempts per skill up

I just did a whole slew of skill up work. From 207 (where I started) through 280 I it was pretty consistantly about 15 attempts per skill up. But once I hit 280, it got bad. The next three skill ups all took between 80 and 100 attempts. I was making ensnaring concoctions (triv 311). With such a large disparity between my skill and trivial, I equipped my geerlok (for more sucesses). From 275 to 280 was still about 15 attempt. At skill 280 I went through 80 combines (4 stacks), got frsutrated and swapped geerlok back out for epic (went from 363 to 370 wis), and got a skill up on the next attempt. While not normally supersititous, I did leave the epic equiped for the remainer of my supplies. I guess it's time to make the alchemy trophy as it gives both wis and skill mod.

I had set my goal at having 750 mature silkworms thinking that'd be enough. But considering the pace I'm at, it appears as if I'll need another 1500 to 2000 to finish.

Has anyone else seen a large increase in attempts per skill up at 280? Or did I just hit a bad slump all of a sudden?

I've had insane skillup runs with mature silkworms. 80-100+ weren't uncommon. Actually, it was the norm. Posted about it several times.

I was averaging a skill-up every 30 combines when approaching 300. I think the skill-up formula was changed when I was in the low 270's

If you have Infusion of the Faithful as an available veteran reward, you can still use your geerlock and have your stats.

I have done 950 mature silkworm combines to get from 275 to 291 now

I am only lvl 65 and wis is still capped at 265, so that is a posible cause.

Level 70 here. Wisdom is capped at 370. AM1 right now, and Salvage 3.

The following is what I did to get from 280 to 300.

With the release of the new Elixer pots, I did a lot of farming, both of Kedge Keep (nice, empty, relaxing zone. Had to move aside once or twice for the Phinny raid that came through, but no biggie) and Old Sebilis.

My run from 280 to 290 took 252 combines (including salvage returns) of the *X potions. Went back to farm some more lillies, and found multiple other shaman or those wanting to charge extreme prices for them in the bazaar farming pretty much every square inch of the zone, so went to farm Kedge. After roughly 3 hours of farming, I had enough for another 150 combines. Those 150 combines of the *IX potions (149 successes, 1 complete fail) took me to 294. Kind of discouraging. Took a break for the rest of the day, and later that evening, a guildie and I took a trip back to Seb, and pounded in the Disco area for a good 3 hours or so, obtaining another 84 lillies.

I woke up the following morning, and, figuring those lillies would be nowhere near enough, went back to Kedge (after finding Seb full again) and farmed up another 140 inks. 148 combines later (with salvage returns) I had gone from 294 to 295. Let out a scream that probably terrified the entire neighborhood.

So, for giggles, and to make some more of the Elixer of Healing X's for the guild (bunch of junkies), went to Abysmal Sea, bought 4 stacks of Hemlock Powder, and then back to PoK for the combines.

            First combine - 296.
            7th combine - 297.
            17th combine - 298
            19th combine - 299

Was thinking to myself, you have got to be kidding me.

Combine 31, with no fails, dinged Alchemy 300. With enough lillies left to do 53 more combines. I fell out of my chair (literally).

I did all the ocean ink combines without the benefit of the GM bag, which I have had for quite a while. I did all the nodding blue lilly combines with the bag, to try and keep the trivial close.

Total cost for the level IX potions? Nil - after sell back to the vendors (nobody in guild wanted them, and I didn't feel like stuffing them all on my bazaar trader), I ended up with close to a 5k profit.

Total cost for the level X potions? Probably close to 2k, after selling to guild mates at 10pp per dose, and considering all the plat/gems I had gotten while farming them. And still have several hundred of them in inventory, which could easily be sold. If I weren't so addicted to some of them myself.

            Hope this helps some.
