  • Trean Flies vs. Slugworms

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed this, but since I've been having problems (like most) finding Slugworms I sat down to make a list of augs I could create with Trean Flies (which I have 5 of) and I noticed something interesting. The stone determines which Acid you need, and its an easy one to remember. All the xxxxflow stones use Slugworms, all the stones without "flow" in the name use Trean Flies.

    Use Slugworms
    Bloodflow
    Boneflow
    Emberflow
    Fireflow
    Mossflow
    Mudflow
    Shadowflow
    Skyflow
    Starflow
    Stormflow
    Voidflow
    Waterflow

    Use Trean Flies
    Apatite
    Celestine
    Citrine
    Howlite
    Kyanite
    Sodalite
    Sphalerite
    Titanite
    Tourmaline

    Hope this helps.

On my server (Drinal), It seems the flow stones drop alot and the non-flow drop rarely but the flies drop alot and the slugs drop extremely rare.

I think it is merely the fact people hunt more in the areas that are prone to drop slugworms (lower level) vs. trean flies (higher level). Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't WoS / higher level NC mobs seem to drop Trean Flies, while DS / Harbinger's lower level NC seem to drop slugworms?

This is anecdotal, but I believe that Dust of Discord & Trean Flies are on the same drop table. That said, Discordant Scoriae & Slugworms appear to be on the same table too.

In the time since OOW was released, I've been privy to practically every attunable aug drop in the guild. I'm the one thats been doing combines for them. As far as what zones drop which components, that's still hard to say. I haven't kept track of drops-per-zone. To do so might be a little too herculean.

To reinforce my assumption, I'll refer you to the bazaar economy on Prexus for dust & trean flies. Their prices have equalized to within 1kpp of eachother. (5kpp with very few exceptions) this indicates to me at least, that the supplies of both are very similar. There are usually 1 or 2 exorbitantly priced scoriaes (100k) & 4-5 moderately prices slugworms (50k). I think their availability is the same though because don't forget, the scoriae is used for BOTH the flow stone & gemstone augments, increasing demand.

        just a few observations

I believe it's merely coincidental. IMO, scoriae is an ultra-rare drop off of any mob OoW-wide, while trean flies are random off of higher level mob and slugworms are random off of any lower level mob. Dust seems to be a rare drop off of higher level mobs.

Dust drops frequently in zones like WoS / MPG, because they have 100+ ppl at peak times, while trean flies drop off of mobs that are around the soloable named mobs in NC, for example, which are camped day and night. Slugworms drop off of mobs in DS and Harbingers, for example... Besides the Gutfeaster, how many ppl camp DS / Harbinger's / Bloodfields? =D

Flow stones drop like candy, while you really have to luck out to get a better aug. Reverse correlation to trean flies / slugworms. There is less of a demand for trean flies, because there aren't that many augs out there to use 'em for, so there is a trean flies surplus, ergo the drop in their price. The exact opposite is valid for flow stones / slugworms.

          My two cents...

I have seen slugs drop off 65+ mobs and have seen scoriae drop off the same mob. Flow stones are common drops and others are rare. I am convinced (have 20+ stones and all parts drop) that they are likely on max 2 drop tables and am not convinced its mob level dependent. And makes perfect sense for common drop (trean) to be for rare stones and rare drop (slug) to be for common stones
