  • #¤%#¤ people undercutting prices!

    This looks familiar?

    trader 1 - 10 lbs Halas pie 5pp
    trader 2 - 10 lbs Halas pie 4pp
    trader 3 - 10 lbs Halas pie 4pp
    trader 4 - 10 lbs Halas pie 4pp
    trader 5 - 10 lbs Halas pie 4pp
    trader 6 - 10 lbs Halas pie 2pp 5gold

(or insert any crafted item of your choice)

Why oh why is it always one or two that keeps a price that is MUCH lower than the general traders? Of course that person wants to sell his wares, but so does others. So people will lower their price so they can compete with him/her and eventually all will loose on it!

If all kept about same price all would earn on it because all would sell.
When one person undercuts the prices the whole market gets destroyed eventually.

    *sigh*

You'll note that its generally the person with 600+ of the item that has the price through the floor.

My own personal money makers got hit with this about two months ago, and the prices haven't come back up yet. Every time I check the prices, there's someone with a few hundred of the item and a very low price - and the worst is that its often not the same person as it was the last time.

Generally it's people using that item to skillup on.

Actually, on my server I'm not so sure.

While its true that most of the names are different names, there are a couple of them that keep cropping up periodically, and that always have huge quantities. They may not be on every time I check, but they tend to show up at least once a week, which suggests they're not trying to skill up. Also, one of the items that I liked to use for a little extra money and that had its price depressed was Celestial Essence, and you can't skill up off of that.

Both of the main items (in my case, GMLs and Celestial Essence) were okay for a while. Occasionally someone would come on with a bunch and lower the price a little and then disappear and the price would go back up. What actually killed the prices were price wars between two merchants with huge stocks that occurred with both items at about the same time.

Ever since then there's always someone with a huge stock on pushing the price noticeably down, and as I said, a couple of them keep popping up about once a week.

Most likely it's some GM baker who's decided that one of two things -

                    1) He's a GM with a superior success rate and intends to own the market by keeping the price so low that folks that are simply skilling won't be able to compete with him.

                    2) He's one of those Robin Hood wanna-be idiots who thinks that he's doing the world a favor by keeping the price so low that up and comming bakers will never be able to make back thier plat.

                    Other possibilities are -

                    3) Person who knows the right areas to merchant farm HMPs (I've personally made plat off of them and truffels by simply buying out merchants at a few gold per food item and reselling at whatever the best price was in the bazaar.

                    4) Psycotic player who was told "If you don't like my prices then bake them yourself" several months or years ago and is now having his revenge.

                      Yeah, I know the feeling..

Just made 180 combines of MTP which with my INT of 232 and Baking skill of 213 gave me a total of 3 stacks.

Cost for 180 combines is around 350 PP, maybe a bit more, so I figured I would sell my picnics for 9pp each (ca standard price) giving me my money back and a small profit to help me buy the earring I have been drooling over.

I come up to Bazaar and the first thing I see is one of the uber-mules selling over 300 MTP's for only 5pp each.

As an up and coming baker I cant compete with that. That would mean for me to sell with a loss!

Got so annoyed I instead started to travel around merchandising my MTP's at different zones. Got them sold to. At 9pp each.

And a tip for all new bakers who needs a small bit of cash every now and then: make a batch of fish rolls. Cost you 2 sp each and happily sell for 3 gp each. Not much you say, but when you have sold of 20 stacks and suddenly have 120pp in your hand it means a pretty good profit.

The way I figure it is: they don't have an unlimited amount. They'll sell out eventually and then people will have to buy the more expensive ones. With the way I've sold Halas Pies, that doesn't always take too long. I've had people buy 200 pies from me before.

Most likely it was someone skilling up. Ah, the joys of Aid Grimel! On Fennin there was someone selling Solstice robes for 50p the other day....the truly sad thing was he wasnt selling them. Pretty soon we are going to be seeing stuff on NPc vendors

Ouch.. you need to get your CHA up. I do 600 combines for a little less than 800pp, even less when I buy the mandrake pre-woven from someone skilling up on it, and I can almost always find the Jum-Jum spiced beer on a vendor in Rivervale and get that for 3g a stack.

Shop around a bit and you can lower your investment costs.
