  • Stupid rare skill ups.

ok... spent a few days getting components ready. And was ready for 360 tailoring combines with solstice robes.

THREEHUNDRED AND SIXTY COMBINES. How many skill ups should someone get from that? 10 and it's considered bad luck?

HOW ABOUT SEVEN. SEVEN SKILLS UPS from 360 combines.

    From 188 -> 195 I avereaged 51 combines per skill up, with 280 int.

    This is insanely stupid.

Took me 200+ to get one skillup in pottery at around 195 or so.

over 1200 combines at smithing skill 191 without getting a skill up.

As someone else mentioned earlier, "count your blessings".

well, true, but still. PS = rants, and 7 skillups isn't much.

still, i could never have the bank space to do skillup runs, even after loy. mine came one at a time... one at a very slow time.

          /comfort.

No - this is the tradeskill hell levels - if you've spent any time on these message boards then you should know that 188ish is the starting area for the hell levels.

I averaged 100 combines per skill up doing baking in those levels with an average INT of 225 - consider yourself lucky that you only averaged 51 combines per skill up instead.

Fletching and JC have produced simular obscene numbers of combines for skilling through those levels - tradeskill hell levels are very real and totally suck - more so for super expensive trades like tailoring and smithing.

and it's always 188, too. when i went through baking, i got to about 177 or 183 before i noticed a huge slowdown in skillups, but 188 really was the kicker.

i know in smithing, 188 is the top trivial of fine plate, and after that the recipes are a pita, but...

why is it always 188, for nearly if not all tradeskills? heh. wonder if it's a mathematical thing, or why 188 is the Unlucky Number.

I am so happy I don't ever have to deal with any hell levels ever again. Once in a while I'll create a char and give him 2k and see him racing through skillups just to see that You have improved in xxxx (xx)!

But hell no (pardon the pun), no more hell levels. I just can't...sniff...stand it...the memories...*cry*

Seriously though, the present theory is that 188 to 200 is leftover coding from when all tradeskills were capped at 200. Back then Verant wasn't about making everything easy as hell and appeasing everyone by makign things trivial (okay, forget my old player "we had to kill orcs with bent spoons in my day!" routine. I couldn't help it. . So they really made it much more difficult to get those last few points. This is not a unique thing in EQ, either. Notice how you can fly through the swimming skillups...until you get near 200. Notice how your spell specialization skillups will fly...until you get to 180+ when it crawls. Etc., etc.

756 combines to get from 188 to 195 in smithing, off shadowscream. That's 1512 swirling shadows -- at the rate of 20 to 30 per hour. I suppose there was a little hollowshade moor camping too...ah never mind...bad memories...
