  • 6th Shawl Failures

Well, I know that others have failed this shawl more times than I have, but its twice now, and I'm just frustrated.

    Bleh.

Tailoring is 161 plus geerlok. At least I can farm the shawl stuff solo, but its still not the way I want to spend all my time.

Should I work on tailoring more or just keep attempting the shawl? I want to progress in tailoring so I can do halfling cultural, but the thought of farming hopper hides and acrylia to do studded armor gives me the shakes right now.

    Thanks for listening.

Old advice was to stop after Wus and just keep trying the shawl. Now with ribbons that are so easy, I would say skill up a bit more before trying again.

if you're going to take tailoring up anyway, you might as well do it now.. that might save you some farming time on the 6th's components.

The only hard part for Shawl 6 is the Siren Hair. Compare how long it will take you to farm up more of that to the time it would take to raise tailoring significantly and you will have a basis for a decision. I recommend killing more sirens.

Had a friend who failed his 6th 6 times with an unmodified skill of (I believe) 162. With 8th shawl padding trivializing at 176 and with this one being so high, might as well suffer and do some more skillups for a bit.

            6th Shawl

I just recently completed my 6th shawl. Did my first shawl attempt at 143 and failed, then skilled up on Wu's to 158. Went back to CS and bashed sirens till I had enough hair for 2 attempts. Of course I made my 6th Shawl on the 2nd attempt so I ended up having to destroy 2 siren hairs  .

I would have to recommend trying to brute force the shawl as well.

I've strangely failed to make the thread 3 times in a row, and thats trivial at 142 apparently and I'm 158.

I seem to be the RNG's bitch.

I would really like to even get a chance to make the shawl

Oh well. It took me 7 times to make the GM spoon at 250.

Was a couple pages back but I had previously posted about my success with trying to force the 6th shawl at lower skill than yours.

I still maintain that if you can farm the parts relatively easily and don't have a reason to raise tailoring for anything but the shawl, then just brute force it.

                  /comfort karisun

It took me about 4 hours to solo the parts needed for each attempt at shawl 6.

I've done this for 2 characters, and now merely need the dorfwalk in iceclad. One character got the 6th shawl on try 1, the other took 6 attempts to make. On both I promised myself to press delete on the 4th shawl if I failed on shawl 5. On both I have gotten very frustrated and dropped about 30kpp each on dyes to get tailoring up.

The siren hairs actually aren't that bad if you know were to hunt and have a bit of patience.

As a low 50s troll SK, I found that the three or four sirens that were in the water near the opposite tip of the land were the easiest.

I'm not refering to the group of sirens that are on the beach near the ulthorks - there are three or four sirens in the water near them though - they are under water on top of these "pillars".

They are far enough from each other that they can be soloed without getting adds or needing any special spells - this means as long as they don't fear you, you'll be OK.

Happy Day! Third time was the charm for the 6th shawl I guess. After farming all those things again (I hate sirens), I got it! Woohoo!

                      Now, on to shawl 7....

Congrats! You are definitely on the downhill slope of this thing now! (unless you've never picked up a smithy hammer before, lol)

As a 63 Paladin with a 55 Enchanter 2-box alt I was able to 2-box all the parts for the 7th Shawl fairly easily (including the Royal Kromriff Blood). I was also able to 2-box the gems from Genoids in Wakening Lands (8th Shawl) easily too, but I am very KoS to them now! Took about 7 hours of farming Genoids to get all the gems. I cheated and bought my Velium Hound Furs though.

So grab a buddy or two and get thee to Siren's Grotto for the Swordfish Tooth and Molkor Hide. I brought a couple Ulthork Tusks with me. I did the fletching combines while I was in SG so that I wouldn't have a problem getting back there if I failed. Although as a Druid you can port to Cobalt Scar, zone to SG and succor to the WW exit to fight your Molkors and Swordfish. Suceeded on my second attempt with the Swordfish tooth!

                          Good luck to you!
