  • The dreaded silence

This would be a shout out on the shawl quest.

I got really lucky on the 6th with a 1 combine completion.
(158 tailor with 5% geerlok and 220 int)

now I have all the items for the seventh except for...

yes you guessed it, the swordfish tooth.

I have asked the guild and friends on several occasions to help in obtaining this one lonely piece and I have gotten.....

    the dreaded silence.

I did not realize Siren's Grotto scared so many. It is almost as bad as seeing a bunch of people cringing at a PoF raid. Oh well, I have enlisted a few and hope to get a few more.

    Did this many times.

Zone into SG, succor/evac to near WW zone line.

Run west through the tunnel (1 roamer). It will loop south then east. Come out, kill 2-3 moktor/ulthrok/whatever.

Inside the pool you are facing are 3 swordfishes. I'm not sure if it is because of level or what not, they did not aggro and they did not assist.

Did it once with 65 SK, 65 wiz (me)
Once with 65 chanter (tank), 65 druid, 65 wiz
    forgot about the other times

Each time the first kill drops the tooth.

SG can be a little scary at sub-60, can't blame your friends and guildie. Just tell them, it'll take an hour, probably 4-6 kills, no siren killing required. They might respond better. Oh and loot. Last we went, we got goodies like Netted Kelp Tunic and quest gems. They might be responsive to that.

And while you are there, get your moktor hide too.

I dare say that a lot of EQ folks have Aquaphobia.

Hope you get it and good luck!

The swordfish actually aren't that bad, from my experience. I'm not sure why your guildmates are so jumpy about them (provided they have EB gear). The sirens, on the other hand...

Lets just say be grateful that the shell can be purchased in the Bazaar. My guild went there once. We killed a few of the sirens, with the puller bringing two at a time. On his last pull he brought three - and one of them was Mistress Latazura...

        WIPE!!!!!

And finally, an amusing story from that trip.

One of the wizards didn't have an EB device. One of the drops we got early on was an ancient fishing pole (or something like that) that had a worn EB effect on it. So we gave it to the wizard.

Guess who went fishing later that SAME day!?
        Guess what pole he used!?
        Guess what happened!?

        doh!

To be honest, SG was one of my least favorite zones when I was a cleric. I couldn't fight, I couldn't tank, I couldn't nuke (this is way back when), I couldn't get across the zone. If I aggro, I die. Not until I learned the run thru path and have RUN3 could I get to WW without assistance. And running through still made me feel like I'm playing a twitch game than an RPG.

Not to mention the nasty baddies that hits hard, heal, charm, and AE. They WERE scary. It is still a dangerous place for the sub-60s.

Mistress Latazura is an evil one... she wiped 3 groups the first time we met her. Took her with 2 groups later... 60 pallie and 52 ranger only melees.. and no clerics.

The sirens really aren't that much trouble. Sans monk.. i've actually pulled the top floor of the castle area where the sirens and elementals spawn. With an old school chanter, they're real easy fights. Anyone back in the day that did stun chaining in Guk.. or... anywhere.. can keep both sirens and elementals down using the level 4 and 20 stuns... how much easier can it be I can do it with a druid healing me even.. only death i took was when i got rooted and had 3 on me, and then it was just bad timing on my mez breaking.

My only dislike in Sg is not being able to cross it without getting cacked /sigh. If i'd learn the path, that might not happen.. admitedly...

I went with a 60 mage, 65 druid, and a 63 druid. The swordfish was easy. Watchout for those seahorses though. THey see thru invis. On a personal note, Sirens Grotto is second only to Plane of Sky on my list of places you have to drag me into kicking and screaming.

I've done it a few times with friends, it's not hard to get to with a wizard/druid to get you to the other side of SG. For that matter, even without, it's a quick run past 3 seahorses that may or may not see invis, but will not follow you into the pool with the swordfish. I make that run all the time heading to WW to hunt up velium hounds. Once in the pool, there will be one swordfish in the pool usually, and then 2 more up a canal that dumps into the pool. At least I believe that is the setup. They don't always drop the tooth, but it did not seem to be exceedingly rare.

If I were on your server, I'd be happy to run over and show you the way if you don't know it, as I am now after Wyverns.

SG is that bad? I'm always running through it on the way to ToV and figured it wasnt that big a deal...provide you know the run to the zone. Things don't really hit that hard, but I've not hunted there so I might be off. I'm also 65...so maybe thats why, but its interesting to hear the comments.

                  Cheers, and gluck on piece!

After my second failure tonight at the 6th shawl, I mentioned that once I succeeded, I would need to spend a bit of time in SG farming for the tooth and other things. I was surprised to hear people saying "Tell me when you want to go, SG is fun!". I haven't spent any time in SG since I can succor across, so we'll see if I think its fun or not pretty soon.

Now if only they were like this when I had to spend time in Kedge Keep for my epic... hehe Took a bit of pushing for help with the seahorse for druid epic. Got it done though!

                    Good luck with 7th shawl!
