  • Stupid POPUPS adds suck :P

Okay so I try to check out the Everlore or CastersRealm sites, both of them give me these pop-ups.

So I click on 'continue to site' ...and it just brings up the popup again and I cant get to the site.....

Okay is it just my PC, or what?

    Really stupid

It is called "flash animation." A sensible workaround for those sites which feel compelled to use flash is to put them into the restricted zone in internet explorer. Some sites make the flash animation so bad that the advertisement floats around no matter where on the screen you are. Loud noises, blinky bits, sorry it is all too much for this crochety old geezer. Don't give me some baloney about advertising, folks only pay if the viewer clicks on the link, not on the number of displays (used to be this way, but too many websites fibbed on numbers and now advertisers only pay for click-throughs). Putting a site in the restricted zone also cuts off javascript, so pop up windows also get eliminated. After all, if pop ups were actually desired by consumers, nefarious individuals would not have to put document.write everywhere in the code and break up the script tag into pieces to evade scanning software. Flash could be useful, but unfortunately, it has been turned into the tool of the devil.

Tools... Internet Options... Security Tab.... Click on the restricted sites icon... click on the sites button... add the url to the offending site... click add... click ok/done until out of all dialog boxes. Restart Internet Explorer.

... or try using a browser that has pop-up blocking built in like Mozilla at http://www.mozilla.org/

If you only turn off activeX controls for internet explorer, you can still get the pop up ads. They are done using javascript. If you set them to restricted zone, then they cannot fire up activex controls, nor can they make any kind of scripting. Despite what most folks think, to mark an activex control "safe for scripting" you depend upon the trust of the activex author to make that claim. One can simply add 2 guids to the registry for any activex control, and then they will be marked safe for scripting, bypassing most security settings.

IE needs to get the same features that mozilla and the other browsers have. There is a real reason folks are moving to those browsers.
