  • Comedy of errors.

This is far from the stupidest thing I've done in EQ, but it's on the list.

I hadn't played in a long time - started back again a month or so ago.

Recently I made a ranger and was going to skill up on fletching. To that end, I a few days ago decided to send my druid to Sister Isle to pick up a few 'stacks' of kiola nuts for Tumpy's tonics for Trueshot attempts.

As I said, I haven't played in a while and the last time I did, the porting gnomes were pretty much a regular feature. I ran my druid to East Freeport, out to the end of the dock and, of course, no gnome. Not on track either, so I figure - well, try the BBM end. So I port over there, run to the docks and no gnomes there either. But, while I'm there, the boat pulls in and I figure, fine, I'll just ride the boat. I hate riding boats, but at least I don't have to wait for this one.

Now, sometime long in the past, I'm sure I have ridden the boat from BBM to Freeport, but it's been a while. The most recent times I've been to OOT, I've ridden from Freeport and stopped on Sister Isle and then ported or gated back, and even that has been quite a while ago.

So, anyway, I'm riding along and watching and the boat stops and I look and say, 'hmmm, that's not sister isle - I guess this thing makes a couple of stops.' So I stay on the boat and watch, and watch and wait and wait and I'm thinking 'man, this is a big zone', until finally I zone and.... "You have entered East Freeport."

What the heck? So I get off the boat and switch to window mode and go check out the map at EQ Atlas and finally figure out what happened. By this time, of course, the boat has left East Freeport, so I port back to BBM, sit and wait for a LONG time until finally the boat gets there.

I ride it back into the zone. Hop off at the first island and Sow and Lev myself and then run all over the place and finally find Sister Isle. Go to the vendor and, of course, 'dang - they're not stackable.' And, I'm not even full up on backpacks. I am able to buy 36 of them and then my inventory is full.

Now, I'm not very instantly adaptable, so I'm thinking 'well, I've got more than enough for the micro-servos I have now; I guess I'll just have to come back another time.' So I gate back to PoK and about five seconds after I get back it dawns on me that all I had to do was bind on the dock and I could have made as many trips as I wanted to.

Crud - oh well, next time.

So, a few days pass - I've made a couple of Trueshots, gathered more micro-servos and almost maxed out my fletching on regular arrows.

I get ready for work this morning and I've got a little less than a half an hour before I have to leave for work and I'm thinking, 'maybe this would be a good time to get the druid back to Sister Isle and bind him there.'

So I log in, get to East FP and sit and wait for about 15 or 20 minutes for the boat to get there. I'm thinking - I don't have much time left, but I tell myself 'all you've got to do is get there, bind, and then camp desktop and you're gone.' So I go ahead and hop on the boat.

Come on boat - move, move. Time's passing - zone in to OOT - should I hop off and run? No - island is the first stop - it's not very far. Come on boat, move, move.

While all this is going on, I'm actually doing stuff on the other computer and just glancing at the EQ session occasionally. So, finally, pulling in to Sister Isle - gonna be a few minutes late for work - not a huge deal, just gotta get out of here quick.

Hop off the boat - click Bind - turn back to the other computer to close out what I'm doing. Look back and I see that the screen is frozen and my UI is gone. And I suddenly realize that I clicked gate instead of bind.

So, now I've ridden the boat to OOT 3 times (and all the way through once) for a total of 36 kiola nuts. And I'm not done yet. Who knows what will happen on the next trip.

Having one of those weeks eh? *grin*

I remember the time I forgot to bind in front of the cultural forge in Kaladim with my blacksmith cleric.

Went to the merchant, bought SIX 10 SLOT BACKPACKS full of large bricks of Brellium (that puts me at about 1300 pounds over 180 str for those keeping track) then gated... to the nexus...

Imagine my surprise when I realized I had forgotten to bind at the forge.

Did I mention I had put my sow potion in the bank so I could hold more bricks?

Now, luckily, a friend was online. He logged in his wife's druid and came and sowed me so I could get to the bazaar and bank most of those bricks. At least I didn't have to announce to the zone how dumb I was so I could get a SoW.

Still, he busts on me about it fairly regularly... Heh, wait till the next time he wants me to make some armor for him.... I'll get even...

I've tried to run my trademule over to Shadowhaven really quick to get something. Forgetting that the 450+ stones in weight on me will actually MEAN something once I zone... The TRUELY embarrassing part is that I've done it FOUR times!

I've done the "forget where I'm bound and Gate" trick more than once. I've also done all of the following....

Sold things I need because I didn't right-click on them and just grabbed
Forgot to get ore enchanted before making armor - and wondering why it wouldn't accept the imbued sapphire.
Plan to go merchant mining, so empty out a couple of packs... run out to the vendors... and realize I've left all my money in the bank.

          In the non-tradeskill category:
Played "Chant of Battle" (lvl 2 AoE damage song) near the NPC guards with my bard. WHAM! Splattered bard!
Snared / Rooted / Dotted myself with my druid
          Mezzed myself with my 'chanter
Gated my druid out, instead of Evaccing the group (try living THAT down!)

And probably far, far too many others.

Oh god Doom, I've done that once myself. One time I gated myself to the Nexus instead of taking our entire group out when we were raiding the dungeon in FoB for fang (name escapes me). We were in the main room and had too many mobs. I was doing an emergency evac. I could only think "Gosh, this is casting awful fast." By the time I realized, it was too late. Boy did I feel like a heel. There were a lot of corpse runs after that one.

I've got 2 errors. One I somewhat laugh at, other one I doubt I'll ever laugh at it.

                1. This is before extra bank slots. All my bank slots had bags. all my personal slots had bags. I've done this little trick since I've started EQ 4 years ago. I'm in Shar Vhal trying to get the needle quest done. I've got the items so I need to initiate the quest which will give me a container. I've got no room for a container so I put one of my deluxe sewing kits on the ground. fill the quest container, combine, turn in get the item. Go to pick up my sewing kit and it's gone....GONE!!!! I'm thinking who took it. Check the zone. I'm the only one in zone. scroll back through the logs, the **** merchant says hey this looks nice and took it. ok not too bad, but what was in that bag? 8 of the 9 parts for the solstice earring quest. only part not in it was the sickle which I had equipted. this is when people were still selling all 9 parts for 12k. That's the one I can laugh at now cause i've recouped it.

                2. This one still makes me mad. Totally my fault. I was bound behind gohwlik (sp) in hollowshade moor, was camping him for the shoulder armor for my alts. I had 1 yellow bubble of exp in lvl 59. easy kill. I would usually invis in between spawns so the wandering one would leave me alone. Killed PH, went to get something from the kitchen "real quick" ended up cooking something. Wife and i got talking and then it hit me. CRAP MY CHAR IS UP. I run into the room just in time to see me die. ok I thought one maybe 2 deaths no big deal. but now I need to get out. I try to loot some stuff real quick and run for it. make it a little out of cave and die again. re pop make it half way to grimling and die. repop this time I have time to mem a TP and get out of there. I look at my char and think cool I did loose lvl 59, but only need 1 yellow to get it back......then I look closer.....I need one yellow to get to lvl 58!!!! I lost all of lvl 58 and one yellow in 57. total of 7 yellow bubbles lost. I'm not in a guild and only know one cleric. I figured I died about 15 or 20 times. Now the kicker. I log off cause my friends not on. log on here and there to check...not on.. finally 2 days later he's on. Now I realize after 24 hours, naked corpses ROT. I only have 2 corpses to rez didn't even get lvl 58 back. BIG LESSON LEARNED THERE hehe.
