In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

So take the fact of having a dirty mind as proof that you are world-savvy; it's not a flaw, it's an asset, if nothing else, it's a defense - Sanna

There aren't many that add so much stuff at once so there are very few even in the running, plus the patch wasn't unusually long. I was expecting another 12-hour patch, which didn't happen. Sure the servers came down a couple times that day, but only for a few minutes.
83/1000 High Elven Enchanter on cazic (8x300 tradeskills)
When they introduced LoY, there was a PATCH as well.
Besides, this gave me shared bank slot , which is a goodness.
And made some cool stuff stackable.
But I don't like the two "controversial" changes they made. I've made my reason elsewhere, so PLEASE lets not turn this into a discussion on those two items.
I was just saying that, for me, this patch wasn't the best ever. It had good points, but all of my characters took a hit on this one.

This would be the second best/second worst patch ever -
sharable bank slots - almost as good as doubled bank spaces, now I can keep all the crap no a mule
constant crashes - sure, I LD plenty with EQ, but this is a new kind of crash - I don't simply get the black screen or something like that - I get a windows error message and then it send me straight to desktop and closes out the EQ window entirely. This seems to only happen while in window mode and hitting more than one key on the number pad at the same time, but it REALLY sucks - almost as much as the frogs taking Grobb from us.
I agree on best, but also worst.
It was great for what it gave us, but for me it was horrible for what it took away.
I have been bored with EQ again, since exhausting luclin and POP having nothing for me. Some time ago I transferred my cleric to a second account then played my cleric and SK BOTH with KEI they got from the bazaar (they were around level 35 then, level 42 and 40 now)
For the first time, the game was fun again. I was controlling two characters which was fun anyway, with no waiting time which was also fun since my game time is very limited.
So after a year and six months of having the ability to use KEI on lower characters, far too long to call it an exploit when it was so well known, they arbitrarily take it away.
So all of the good the patch gave, or all of the people who say "but kei was a fix it wasn't a nerf, nyah nyah, cheater cheater, nyah?", is moot to me. The game was enjoyable for me again and now its really not again.
It was enjoyable in a way that did not seem like it was going to be taken away because SOE never once, in all this time, has said "OH the ability to cast KEI on lower levels is a big exploit, you naughty cheating customer, so don't get used to it because we have plans to remove it. Never once have I seen that anywhere.
Perhaps it is just SOE's way of telling me they'd like some new customers and are tired of me after four years, "Thanks for you money but your $25.90 per month is no longer needed!" I guess that is fine, this was a house that I helped to build but now it seems it might be time for me to move.
I've been playing AO again more anyway. I like two aspects of it more than I like the way EQ works; In AO there is solo instanced content, with zero downtime (as well as group, so you have a choice, unlike the goofy upcoming expansion "Lost Dollars of SOE") and the points per level method of all skills means that if you want to do a tradeskill you add the points until you can, then the points mean you always succeed or you are told you need more points. There is no standing around and making mundane wrist hurting items for hours, it cuts to the chase.
40 and 42 - you're almost to the level where you can get KEI on both your guys anyway. A few more levels is really that drastic? If you're tired of EQ that's one thing, but having to stick out a handful or less levels without KEI...I can't see that being exactly devastating unless you were long overdue for a change of scene anyway. That seems silly to me.
Heck, you even are able to two-box. That makes the game infinitely better than many people have it. I know that because I do it myself. Really, you have a lot going for you. I can't help but think that if you find the game unplayable or unenjoyable without KEI -- you simply find the game relatively unplayable or unenjoyable, regardless. Period.
And I wouldn't blame you for that. Everything has its season, and sometimes it's just time to move on, or at least take a good long break. Pretty much nothing is enjoyable if you do enough of it, and there's pretty much nothing that isn't much improved if you take a break from it every so often. EQ tends to get people burnt out on their own obsessiveness a lot; it's not so much the game as human nature butting its head against itself. People putting way too much into the game and winding up sorry or pissed off or confused how the heck they got so unbalanced and wondering where the heck to go from there. Blaming the game is usually the first and most comfortable resort.
To me the main problem with their taking away KEI is that enchanters almost disappeared from the game, when it comes to selling KEI in POK/nexus, where they used to be in abundance at almost any hour of the day or night. A lot of their customers were twinks or tradeskillers who needed KEI but are now too low to get it. So now their plat per hour is undoubtedly a good bit lower.
I'm sure they can still make money, but they were making it at such a stunning rate for so long, with virtually no work whatsoever, and whenever they wanted to, that any change that negatively impacted that utopia has got to sort of shatter a dream. Whereas most people would be more than thrilled with the kind of money per hour that a KEI enchanter can get, or even half or a quarter of it, if you're used to the full monty, it must be a shock to the system to see something more modest.
Ah well, they'll get over it and come back in greater numbers again. There are more of them in the game every day, and it's still one of the best money makers out there by a mile. Or fifty.

They made KEI much much less profitable, so people arent there to cast it on me. :-(
Meanwhile, any joe with a level 29 chanter now thinks he has found the train to PHAT LEWT with his clever "Clarity for Donations" message. (Which teases me in my search for C3)
