No, A dark race is not a 30 point handicap.

A dark race is playing Doom on "You've got to be kidding" mode.

A dark race is playing a game of bowling with a 290 point handicap.

Dark Race/Classes are always something of a novelty. You aren't the hero. You aren't a sidekick.

You are the hideous monster that the townfolk run from, that constantly fears for his life, and , truth be told, is seen by most non-trolls as little more then an animal.

The only time an evil race, with the most evil class will get to "Sit back and coast", will be whatever quests your Troll Friends in Neriak have for you.

Those are easier for you then they are for me. :-)

High Difficulty means , on a scale of 1-100, expect that you will have a difficulty of 100 on everything. :-)

And , aside from this reply, do my posts really upset you? Rather strangle me then read them? Sheesh. :-(

      Take it easy folks.

I don't want anyone to take anything in here personally or get overly worked up. Remember, EQ is a GAME.

Playing the Evil Races is much more difficult. I know. I've played Dark Elves and Iksar, I've played Trolls and Ogres. My primary characters are "lighties" but don't think I don't understand the difficulties. Yes, it's hard. Yes, you don't catch any "breaks," but heck, you get advantages too.

      Examples:

      * Trolls and Ogres start out at high amiable or better with members of their race. Handy, especially since other merchants don't much like them, and they have Charisma socres lower than a Dwarf's kneecaps.

      * All evil races can kill a number of mobs that are "off limits" to good races. This adds two camps in Dagnor's Cauldron, several camps in West Karana, North Karana, East Karana, Misty Thicket, and all the Commons. Not to mention the Sister's Isle in Ocean of Tears, and other zones I can't even begin to list.

      * With PoK and PoT you can train even if you become KoS in your home city, and you will find merchants who will ALWAYS /con indifferent. (This is true for light races too.)

      * Ogres are hands-down the best race for melee types. The stat mods are perfect. Trolls are a pretty good runner up. While I see far more barbarian warriors, the best I see tend to be Orges/Trolls.

      * Iksar monks are by far the most common sort on Tunare. The advantages over a human monk are undeniable. Better AC and better regen, AND night vision.

Now, that said, I do know you have some serious issues.

      * Travel to and from places. Extra-Dangerous in many cases.
      * Faction for quests is/can be difficult.
      * Exp penalties for some of the racial abilities.

But, on the whole, you got it pretty ok. No more or less than you were warned about.

Where are they making it harder (excpet for the removal of grobb... that made it harder.)

You may NOT say "well this new content was made hard... so they made it harder on me" No. That is just a continuation of the same dificulty.

where did they make existing content harder? (again, except for changes caused by the move of grob I admit that making things harder... but you are saying they are doing it constantly... not this one case)

When they make NEW content, they have to continue the dificulty.

Heck, they adde MANY things that make your life EASIER.

First, Shadowhave, at least everyone started NON KOS, and massive amounts of tradeskill stuff is available there.

Then They Added, PoKnolege... everyone here Will even sell to you without an extra quest... and there is even MORE tradeskill stuff here than there was in Shadowhaven.

Yes, you need expansions for this... but how did that make it HARDER on people without the expansions? How did adding something they cannot even get to that is a dificult quest, make life harder on Evil's?

            Just as a trivial sidenote:

If you start a new Froglok character, it doesn't give you a difficulty level during character creation. At no point are you told that this is a LOW (or MODERATE or HIGH) DIFFICULTY race/class combo to play.

The illusion: woodelf crown is a TOY! Its a fun toy, perhaps, although it does bug a lot of enchanters, bards, and rogues, but its a toy. No more, no less. It may be harder for dark races to get than for light races, but it will also do dark races more good. My Erudite main probably isn't going to change whether or not he's KoS anywhere because he looks like a wood elf (actually, with some of the screwy indifferent factions toward Erudite Peacekeepers of Quellious, it might make him KoS in a few places he'd otherwise be indifferent). Your troll, on the other hand, will probably have an easier time of it because people think he's a wood elf instead of a troll. It sounds like you're getting a big boost out of it, so a little more work doesn't strike me as unreasonable.

And when it comes right down to it, its still a toy, not a required item.

As for the number of Ghoul Lords you've killed...

              And your point is...?

If you want to hear horror stories about the number of kills with no drops, visit Paladins of Norrath and go looking for stories about dragons killed vs. number of epic books dropped. While most people see a book drop after only a few kills (never mind the fact that there are always 3 or 4 paladins on each Vox and Nagafen raid), there are a number of people who have been on a couple dozen dragon raids and not seen a single book drop.

(and then you've got the twerp who ignores everyone else and insists the book drops too often because the five raids he was on all dropped 3 books each).

If the archives went back far enough, you could read even worse horror stories - namely, the Shin Lord camp. Paladins would camp the Shin Lord, wreck their live frog faction, and hope and pray that the Ghoulbane would drop now instead of after 24 hours of constant camping (Every now and then, some innocent paladin logs on and asks whether he should do the Ghoulbane quest or camp the Shin Lord. And there's always one or two naive respondants who complain about the "three whole hours(!)" it took to get one of the drops. *shudder* And remember - the change to how you could obtain Ghoulbane was made about the same time that the shadowknight epic went live.)

You live on EQTraders. You KNOW that the RNG is flukey. Why is it such a surprise that the RNG (in the form of the loot tables) is being a bastard this one time?

Actually, having started a newbie troll beastlord after the trolls moved to Neriak, and having started newbie trolls in the swamp before... well, the new troll is in her teens, the others got deleted when they were single digit because the zone was horrible. So I don't see moving to Neriak as making things more difficult...

Remember the days back before Hasten Bootstrutter and the Ancient Cyclops, when the only way to get the JBoots was to camp Drelzna in Najena? Part of the reason that Hasten Bootstrutter exists is because this was SUCH a bitterly contested camp. The Jboots were a very rare drop off a rare MOB with a placeholder and an 18.5 minute spawn timer. People would literally line up outside Drelzna's room and wait their turn for 18 or more hours, just to get IN the 6-man group that was camping Drelzna. Some folks would just come in and KS her away from the group camping her. Others would wait in line for the requisite time until they got in the group, and then they'd ninja the boots at the first opportunity. It was not uncommon to hear about people camping the JBoots for over 24 hours, giving people in their group their phone number, and then falling asleep at the computer in hopes that their group would call them when the JBoots finally dropped.

                  Ah, the good ol' days...

Friend of mine did the Bullsmasher quest 86 times without a single Bullsmasher before finally giving up.

The swamp is a lot better these days, but then all of the newbie zones got overhauled when the new lowbie armor/weapon quests were introduced.

I really think everything has been said that can be said, at this point. It anyone still needs to vent on this subject, take it to your server or class board, or scream into your pillow or something :b

                      I recommend closing the thread.
