  • Underconned goblins

This isn't so much a scream as just frusturation. I just started Ornate last night and wanted to try farming goblins in Sol A for HQ ore. Well, the first goblin I ran into was a goblin wizard. I con him. "Ok, light blue, shouldn't be a problem." I then proceed to snare him and I start to cast a nuke when about the same time he hits me with his nuke. Um...ouch. I went from 100% life to 75% in one shot. I wasn't far from the zone to Lavastorm, so I decided to run instead of gating. I Never made it, he hit me with three more nukes, each one the same amount of damage as the first one. I made it about halfway to the zoneline.

Now my resistances aren't horrible, but they aren't spectacular either. Average about 40-50.

Now that was a hard hitting light blue.

Don't worry, I am an Undercon too .

Wizards are just like that, avoid them at all costs. hehe

For farming in SolA, I'd wait til lvl 50 if you want to be efficient, and avoid groups completely.

Currently self buffed I have approx 120MR, 105Fr/Cr... I don't think anything in SolA lands on me, but I don't farm there either.

J/K about the undercon thing, wizards it really depends on the class you are, for some they are easier, like paladins who can chain stun (interrupt) etc.

Wizard mobs are a holy terror. They hit just as hard as similar level mobs, and they nuke for a lot more damage. Their weakness is that they have quite a bit less health than, say, a warrior mob does.

So how do you take them down?
      Keep them from casting.

Paladins can solo wizards as long as the paladin has mana. A skilled paladin can completely shut down a wizard, and is probably the best anti-caster pet in the game. One of my happiest moments (with my paladin main) was returning back to Unrest with the newly introduced low level stuns (Cease and Desist) and keeping the hags from getting a single spell off as I meleed them.

Clerics, enchanters, and wizards all have their own stun spells, although since stun spells generate agro, its best to be careful with them.

Rangers and Warriors can kick, which if it connects, will sometimes interrupt a spell. Rangers, warriors, shadowknights, and paladins can also equip a shield and bash. Slow, but if it connects, it almost always interrupts a spell.

If you're grouped with a magician, get him to use his air pet. You can't control when the pet uses its special skills, but the pet does stun quite frequently, and will probably keep a few spells from getting off.

There are also other tricks as well (using the bard mez song to interrupt a long casting spell such as gate), but the above are the most common.

Don't take this the wrong way, but those resistances are pretty horrible - if you're planning to make a career (however brief) out of farming a zone with lots of casters.

They need to be 30 points higher at a bare minimum, and if it were me, I'd be aiming for 100+ resists.

My druid uses Fury of Air quite often in groups.

          125-150 mana, 250 Damage, 2-3 second stun.

          I love that spell.

Rangers *can* equip a shield, but we dont get the Bash skill. Only reason to have a shield is if youre using archery and have a shield with high resists/hp (and you have alternate haste over Swiftwind).

Rangers also get a spell called Call of Sky which adds a dd/stun proc to your weapons. Using kick, call of sky, and 2 fast weapons will definately help fighting casters.

And one more thing that I just recalled...

The goblins now are still minor league stuff.

I still remember one trip a few guildies and I took to Old Sebilis. It was the first time there for a few of them, and another guildie had wanted to join, but I'd told him he couldn't come because his level was too low, and the first wizard we ran into would turn him into a red smear on the floor.

At any rate, during the actual trip, a froglok wizard nearly turned our enchanter (who was high 50s at the time) into a red smear. One spell, and the enchanter went from full health to about 90 percent.

              Ice Comet HURTS.

You'll also learn to hate Elnerick, and his accursed Entombment of Ice spell. As a paladin, I often pull (Calm is a wonderful spell), and my preferred method of pulling wizards in Sebilis is to bring the group over to start beating the crap out of it before it can start casting. Barring that, I'll hit it with a four second stun and then go hide behind the corner where it can't see me (works in Seb, but not in many other zones) until its in melee range. If that doesn't work, then there's a good chance I'm going to be hit with Elnerick's Entombment of Ice (which is both a DD and a root) and then chain nuked.

              Thank goodness for Divine Aura...

                I'll agree fully with Eumerin.
As a 30-odd paladin in Unrest, i would hit auto attack and then proceed to chain stun any caster I was up against.

Wizards are bad news. You must melee with them and keep interrupting them until they drop. I used to have a lvl 25 wizard before I switched accounts and started my paladin and I was horrified by the amount of time a fight would take with my little dwarvish tank. With my wizard, if the mob wasn't down in 30 seconds or less I was probably going to die.

Most wizard spells need line of sight though, so stun it once then run round a corner

... and if you want undercons, the battle master in Unrest is level 20... with over 1K hp and hitting for over 70 each time
