  • OT - must resist urge to squish another pod person

I haven't a clue if it was announced on the production servers. But they have a new toy on the Test server. Instant 25th level characters with gear thats better than I've seen for "normal" starting from 1st and working up to 25th level characters.

I thought the MPC's were bad, this is worse. Production server players (Proddies as they are affectionatly/insultingly called by the test server regulars) normally migrate to the Test server only when their servers are down for maintenance or they want to try and see what test is like. Usually we see a plague of 1st - 4th level characters in the newbie zones and most know to escape and leave for higher level grounds.

Not so anymore. Now with the simple command of /testbuff you instantly become a pod person. A newborn 25th level, still wet behind the ears, character.

Do you know what its like to be asked out of the blue how to summon your warder (beastlord pet) by a 25th level beastlord!! At first it was humerous and I didn't mind answering. However, after the 30th time, it gets old real quick. When you explain to them that they need to cast a spell to summon, that its no longer an ability. The next question is usually, can you spare me some money to buy the 24th level pet spell (which oddly enough wasn't included). The 24th level pet spell is about 12-24 pp (memory is more than a little fuzzy since I've not had to buy that spell for well over 6 months almost a year) for just that one spell.

/role and /anon work real well here.

Some zones have become rather unique. Halas is now a necropolis, bodies litter the ground 2 or 3 deep in some spots. It would seem the barbarians have had bad breeding stock as of late and are busy culling out the weaklings.

Sour grapes on my part you might ask, that the pod people get better gear than in some cases I actually still use. No... Its more from this morning... Listening to a pod person (25th level warrior) complain why he shouldn be allowed to camp the ice giants, or at least take one of them. The mage who had the camp (unlike the production servers, most people will look to see if there is a 49+ character in the zone and then leave, or ask if one of the giants are free.).

I just hope that they actually either take the feature away or fix it to where it does the increase once only per character.

Thank you, I just needed to get that off my chest.. its bugged me beyond believe this morning.

    Take care all..

    *hugs*

Heh, a level 25th warrior wanting to camp an ice giant. I would've given him one, and laughed as he quickly got slaughtered. I'm still debating whether I like this feature or not. I used the command to take my necro back to 25, since the one I had on there got deleted when they added Vesker to test, and made a couple of new characters to fool with, but quickly deleted them since I didn't know a dab blasted thing about the class.

What makes the people asking for pp to get the level 24 beastlord pet spell even worse is it's 3pp. Yes, 3pp, I bought it when I wanted to try a beastlord.

      Don't be so sure...

/testbuff currently acts as a CH and has no delay.
Itzena Alhazared, Revenant of {Planeteers}, Vallon Zek. And also a seamstress.
Gelcea Macha, Wandering Animist of Tarew Marr. Will be a smith, one day.

Yup. They have found the leet sploit.

/testbuff converts a toon to lvl 25 with 3 bags of mediocre gear and full heath. Spamming it makes you very difficult to kill... but not impossible. (big evil grin)

Go go ranger ice comet! *splat* Dead lvl 25 noob in the bazaar arena.

Hit test server bazaar arena. look at all the corpses of Splungeandjkorik i killed. =) (he was some goofball from another server that wanted revenge at me and a warrior for killing him with great merriment. =)
I got rather good at killing someone who has a free CH.

Someone mentioned getting a druid and a warrior and killing Tormax this way. Load up the DS on the warrior and go to town spamming the CH.

It should be fixed monday..we hope.. and maybe all the griefers will GO AWAY.

I just hope they don't get rid of it totally. I hate morons as much as the next person, but there are people who have been using it to see if they do want to start a certain character on the other servers. I know one person who was really gung ho about starting a wizard, but decided not to after giving it a trial run. I was personally going to try it out next week to see if I really wanted to start a beastlord or not, but I've heard from others that the "fix" on Monday is really just removal. I guess just wait and see.
But yeah, I can see how people could easily abuse it and annoy the crap out of you test regulars.

But I bet those body piles would make great caption contest pictures

Aye, fix the CH exploit, and keep the command.

I was wondering hoiw long until I saw someone from Test screaming about this command. As much a I love playing with it, I would hate it if it ever went to my server.

LOL - just logged onto Test to start a troll cook there (I'm gonna be ready this time when something fun to cook comes out) and it's everything that Lady has said.

The area around the troll trainers looks like there was a guild whipe out there - atleast two score corpses scattered about the area as folks tried to use TB to kill trainers.

In Nek forrest, it was no different - anywhere there was a guard, there was a pile of corpses of various idiots who were trying to score the easy kill with TB - it's definately a plague or something.

The begging part was what made me laugh the hardest though - you're 25th level for Pete's sake - WTF is your problem that you don't seem to think you can score 5 plat for some spell components or whatever you claim you need plat for???

On the plus side though, it is very easy to tell the difference between the regulars and the Pod people - if someone has a goofy arse name (with the exception of yours truelly - be sure to say hi to Cigarskunk the troll if you see him) then you can pretty much bet they're one of the yahoos.
              Cigarskunk!
No more EQ for me till they fix the crash bug.

Ack! I really hope they dont remove this too soon. I wanted to test out a few of the classes I've never gotten to try.

I waved at ya, Cigarskunk, in Pok. =)

Well ive figured out a few more things..

                  1. When something new comes out on test, it attracts a certain set of people. 10% of them are honest, good people who just want to try the new stuff out. 90% are griefers looking to cause trouble, exploit stuff, and generally reinforce the idea that parents need to beat the tarnation out of their kids sometimes to keep em in line.

                  2. This 90% is the bottom of the barrel across many servers, where normally theyre pretty well drowned out on their home server because of sheer headcount volume; but on test, they stick out like a gaggle of sore thumbs.

                  3. Anon and turning OOC off are wonderful things.

                  4. PoTranquility is a wonderful, quiet place.

                  5. The /testbuff command is FAR worse then the MPC thing they had a year or so ago (where people could play low level mobs). At least you could KILL them (or root and chain-blind then till they /q'ed).

                  6. Im guessing about 4% of the people who make /tesbuff'ed characters will keep them and maybe make Test their new home, level up to the 50s or 60s and become good members of the Test Server community. The other 96% will get bored fast and leave within a few days and go back to harrass their own server. (They probably couldnt level past 25 on their own anyways).

                    AHHH!!!! no fair, no fair...

I kept trying to get Ladyskunk (yes, even if it is a silly name. About as silly for me as Ladyhawk is. ) for a name and it wouldn't let me.. grrr... Ah well, I hope to see you there CS., I'll give you a hug when I see you.

At least it would appear the noteriety is over. Though in truth, I dread when the main production servers come down, or actually, I'm waiting with horrified facination. If only to see all the hundreds of 25 level characters running about.

Take care all and as always,

                    No getting squished.
